I hate being chained to copying refs. I cant draw from imagination at all and I dont think I have improved in that area either.

I think Its probably because I have been neglecting construction beyond the absolute basics usually just relying on comparing with the reference for proportion. And I rarely have the time for recall excercises most approaches want you to copy one image atleast 3 times but that takes way too long for one drawing session unless I am just retarded.

Also some of my copies look pretty good so its really demotivating to go back to prebeg.

any advice?

Copying once from ref and then reverting to your usual habits like doll will get you nowhere.
You're not learning anything either by straight up copying another person's drawing and then tacking on a symbol head on it.
Good effort, at least doll, but they're very misguided.
