Why are people waiting to get "good" at art before starting their personal project from the get go when the most culturally significant piece of independent fiction in the last two decades looks like this?

Andrew Hussie was a very technically accomplished artist before he started Homestuck, particularly in his inking ability. A large part of the appeal of MSPA was in seeing someone with such a dense and complex style simplify his work down while still maintaining a stylistic edge that other less seasoned artists wouldn't have.
