The internet didn't stop being fun, your life just got sadder.
I'd say the internet got better in some ways but also a lot worse in others, more people and content on the internet, still many free games and fun little sites but also more login barriers, data privacy pop-ups, paywalls, worsening of anonymity, AI and so on... I think there was a sort of peak between the old days and the new days where the internet was just at its best, at least for my personal experience, but for all I know, that peak could be now, like what if they take pixiv guro yaoi away from me, that'd be terrible, I'd have to get a VPN or draw my own all the time, I'm already having to use a VPN for dlsite.com...

if you want an actual answer, its because the internet is as of recent becoming a lot more 'advertiser friendly'. social media platforms havebeen becoming stricter and stricter about what kind of content is allowed on their platforms which stunts creative growth in users. a really simple example of a super complex issue just so you can get a taste of it is the fact that on platforms like tiktok you can't even us the word 'suicide' in a sentence, you have to censor it with 'unalive'. censorship leads to less 'fun' opportunities being explored. along with that, gen z and gen alpha is the first generation to grow up with EVERYTHING being at risk of being recorded. so people my age are more afraid of being 'cringe' in fear of being put on blast by our peers so theres a lot more emphasis on acting 'nonchalant' to avoid being cringed at for just having fun. idk if i was able to word it well, but it's just what i've noticed!

I disagree. There's nothing innately fun or boring about clicking a button with no special text on it that says "Post". It's the designers and the artwork that make it more than just a button. Same thing goes for the rest of the page.

Suddenly things online stopped being fun. Websites and the content hosted on them are drab with everything set to #000000 or lacking any flourishes at all.

My favorite example in recent memory is Print Friendly. The old design was fun, with some trees with smily faces on them reminiscent of OSX's Finder. A "eco friendly" color scheme of light blue and green hints to recycling. It's representing how the service is something you do on the computer, that also saves trees.

Today it looks like just another web tool or some slapped together YouTube to MP3 converter, with the express purpose of having a place to put the link and a button to do the conversion.

Women and governments happens. Women made the internet not fun, those in power have no sense of humor. Fighting censorship. Fighting against corporations who have captured the government. Fighting the government who brainwash Women to stay in power. It's a losing battle. Women have no business in politics or power, the more they got involved, the less freedom the internet have, the more stupid shit propaganda like save grandma and think of the children become the culture of the internet. You can get banned on social media for memes. Or say that you don't believe in the vax. It's all corrupted by the three entity, governments that are captured by corporations, corporations that are infested by sociopathic parasites, Women who are controlled by the propaganda of the government. You can't talk sense to Women, they are not rational, they will resent you if you do, they feel and are Manipulated by deceptions, even if you tell them exactly how it is done, that women are paying pink tax to corporations and they help push propaganda in the education system where they create woke retards, and create HR jobs and other DEI bullshit to mold a bunch of soulless cookie cutter Women, that men of today, only treat them as fuck hole and refuse to marry, date, or have children with, even if you somehow put that point across, in a reasonable manner, in a collected and thoughtful way, they resent you because they are programmed to do so. It's a propaganda since their birth, since kindergarten, since they are a child. First world women are groomed by the corporations. It's their first nature now, that is to do the work for the man. Their second nature is child birth, they are sacrificing their time for work, which barely is essential, instead of sacrificing their time for babies. Feminism have allowed first world women to abandon their nature, they become successful but unhappy because that void can never be filled.

I have no girlfriend, or wife, I do talk to women when I can, and participate in dialogues, forums and fireside chat with women. They often express how they feel and how insensitive, offended and their disagreement with me, and their faces often with upset and displeasure with me. Despite that, I understand how they feel, and can empathize with their points and opinions. My personal opinions are that first world women got the short end of the deal.

A child will financially ruin you, of course you have to work. Stay-at-home parents have always been an upper class thing not everyone could afford. Financial dependency is also a risk, so both parents should at least have funds for this arrangement.

I do agree that it is convenient if only one parent has to earn the family's income outside of the house, although you'd need to earn a lot of money for that to be sustainable. Also, if you ever break up, your career would suffer a lot from that long stay-at-home parenting break. Seems risky unless the non-career parent has funds to deal with that potential outcome.
>I can't help it, I'm probably autistic
Yeah, only being autistic isn't necessarily a dealbreaker, but being autistic and sexist is just a kind of combo that makes you seem extra pathetic. Autism will make it harder to exude charisma and sexism makes you a douche. You can have some success as a charismatic douche and some success as a sweet autistic man but you won't get far as an autistic douche. Unless you try with conservative women who are also autistic ig.
>incel wtf

And because it's convenient, everything has to be set up so that it will never ever happen?
In my country, the average effective tax rate is ~50%, if you consider income and consumption taxes. This means that if taxes went away, every double earner household would be able to retire one parent without a loss of quality of life. The taxes are used to fund welfare and pensions. The result is that, for the purposes of providing some women with the ability to divorce profitably, nobody in my society gets to be a primary caretaker of their children. You actually cannot declare that "both things would be good simultaneously" when they rely on mutually exclusive resources. The value created by work goes either towards marriage, or towards divorce.

If you divorce for profit, that's you taking your partner's money, unless you signed a prenup; that's not what taxes are. US taxes are spent on this: https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-budget/where-do-our-federal-tax-dollars-go with 7 percent going to economic security programs, only part of which include financial aid for struggling individuals.

Anon... I really hope you'll find help... I don't know if your family mistreated you or if your friends betrayed you, but no one deserves whatever you've gone through to become like this. I hope you'll find someone who'll show their love to you, someone who'll help you with healing those wounds and comforting those anxieties that time and society has left you with. You must be living in a truly dark space if your outlook on the world is this negative. I'm sure it has a soothing effect as well. After all, if the world is full of bad actors who only pretend to love like fools, who are only governed by fear and nothing else... That means that if no one is there for you, it's just how the world is, it's not that you're alone, everyone is alone and those who aren't are just lying to themselves. This really paints a bleak picture...
But anon, it can get better. You won't be alone forever, I'm sure you can find a way out of this... I'm sure you have people in your life you never properly connected with. And maybe you just need to try with different people. I don't really know your life, you probably know best whom you can turn to, if there is someone like that. That's because I don't really know you. I do care for the people in my life though. If you were in my life, I'd care a lot more. But right now, all I can do is imagine a human being behind the screen and I do prefer people to lead happy lives as a baseline. So even if I don't have a strong emotional connection to you personally, if you're living a sad life, that's still a bummer. And I really do hope that your life will improve. Maybe my sentiment doesn't make you feel better now, but if it did, it'd make me really happy.
>to convince yourself of your own moral worth
Quite cynical, but consistent. But I'm not saying all this because I'm thinking of my moral worth, I'm thinking of someone who's suffering and who could just find a little bit of comfort in other people's words. Maybe not mine, but if there's someone in your life you think you can trust, maybe you can see this as a sign to reach out to them. Or just... anyone... I promise that people really do care. They're just bad at showing it and time apart makes people distant on the inside as well. Many people are so isolated nowadays and it's pretty heartbreaking. I don't have the emotional capacity to care for every person out there to the same degree as for the people in my vicinity, but at the same time, you have people around you who might come to care a lot if you let them in. People do grow on each other and I hope you have or will at least find people you're important to as well...

>describe women as sub-human
When did I ever, i disagree with women and I blame it on the corporations who have brainwashed women since they are born. How is that sexist? The fact that j broke it down, part by part, isn't it thoughtful and easy enough to understand where I am coming from? So disagreement makes me a sexist because i disagree with first world women and the choices they made? There's more women who are at my side, the women from the past, and women from developing nations, even 3rd world women, they still kept their first nature as mothers.

I suppose thread derailing and flamewars (I memba!) haven't gone anywhere. Can't say they've ever been fun.

Thank you /ic/ jannies and mods for not shitcanning my thread. I like to think this is a more nuanced board, and my actual question of: "why has the artwork of website design and individuals become so deflated and mundane from the youthful optimism shown previously?" optimistically clicked with an intelligent 4chan team member -- or pessimistically flew under the radar because no one is watching this board.

>>7743894 is probably right. Maybe that 4chan birthday artwork is the precipice right before everything crumbled. I don't think the iPhone was a big deal just yet, because there was no App Store and the price filtered a lot of people. BUT, YouTube did start paying people for videos just two months later in December of 2007. Perhaps before it was just passion and fun idea and art sharing, but as soon as people got a whiff of "wait I can be paid for this?" things slowly began to shift into the internet being taken seriously.

One of the recent examples I can think of is the Oney Plays guys finally getting their big break with Smiling Friends. How different it would be if the internet was somehow excluded from a professional setting and never left the land of amateurs. Maybe they would've stopped all together to get traditional jobs, or continued it while doing some bullshit email job (in the bizarro world where Newgrounds cartoons are never taken seriously. Maybe The Simpsons never airing could be part of this). But using the internet as a portfolio for a real job opportunity was possible! So screw all that unpaid web series work, I'm going to go in with the possibility someday someone might pay me for this! Aaaaaand the fun is gone.

Flamebait and flame wars in early chatrooms and forums. It was common sense to teach people to ignoee bait until a mod would come in and strike them.
One difference is also that fan spaces hace coagulated into mush. People used to have a dozen accounts because they had to go search for them. Social media migrated from personal blogs you had to dig around to the content feed thar mixes everything and picks for you.

People were already piggybacking on trends/politics in the early 2000s when normies weren't on the internet. The formula was already tried and tested by the time phones were deployed. I think the internet always rewarded opportunistic types but the big game changer was social media working as a centralizing hub where you have billions of people who share nothing with each other on the same platform. Social media created a weird behavioral sink

The fabian race communists in the UK censored the entire internet and then started filing lawsuits with websites operating outside their legislation, so currently 4chan is in court against the UK government.
The government was voted in with less than a third of the eligible vote, so they're ruining everything at maximum velocity because they will almost certainly never rule ever ever again, and so everyone views the activities of the government as not reflecting the wishes of the british people.
Thus, Yotsuba sits on a broken throne clad in the colors of the british. 4chan save the king.

Been browsing and making my own site. Seems like im one out the flood of tranny faggots flocking to the site that has something normal to make. Like, old web was mostly just fan sites for video games and anime. With collections of art, fan art, sprites and other stuff. Not fetish shit or political garbage. Teens today arent teens. neocites has attracted the tumblr fags that got purged due to the porn ban, and what normalicy is there is sparse at best. People set up their site, get it to look amazing, but dont make anything there to keep your stay.

Anyways, im going to be the change i want to see.

Any neocities recs?

Also, we need to just start getting into self-hosting and creating webrings again. Even making forums would be great. There's still and edgy Harry Potter forum I used to love in 2009 that's still kicking around, Dark Lord Potter. It's on it's death throws, but it's still got some life in it and it's a create time capsule of what used to be. Man, I used to love that website.

I2P websites remind me of old school internet. Same with Hypha-Net but that one has more landmines in it to avoid.

>12% of China's population has no access to the internet
We're barely scratching the surface of India's upcoming presence on the internet. I'm not kidding, if all of India gets access to the internet, then China and India combined will be roughly 60 percent of all internet users, if the combined total internet population numbers is true.
The west (Europe, USA and Canada) will amount to a total of a little under 20 percent of all internet users. It's that critical. Imagine the amount of AI art that's yet to be produced.

When it became a substitute for real life. Old internet was a completely different beast where who you were online wasn't who you were in real life. You could goof off and shitpost and it wouldn't matter because it was just a timewasting system that occasionally had good pirate material on it. The absurdity of it all really had a sense of freeness where you could enjoy things for the sake of their absurdity, and that reflected itself in internet art having a license to be weird.

The flooding of various shit forces through the normification and sanitization of the internet contributed to killing that vibe to the point where the only times you're allowed to succeed making art with any kind of joy in it is for some dogshit political agenda involving doing shit to kids.

At this stage AI has done what no normie could do which is make being on the internet uncool again.

I believe Google just cut off searches that lead deeper into the web. It wont pull up ypur "mom and pop" websites anymore. Its too stop chat gpt, limit its information pool. I dont have the full story, but the internet is being massivily shapped and walled off.

Places like neocities may be the last bastion to make and search for non a.i sites.

Side note, i hate wikifandom or whatever you call it. It curated all fan info, monopplized it. Maybe monopoly isnt a capatilistic thing, its a human thing. Like the tower of babel. It always ends up into a monolith and as a people, we are to decentralize it constantly. Sorry, i digress and going off the deep end, but i leave this thought here.

Communism is a monopoly of its own just as corporations.

No one has made the connection that this is human nature, human error. That we always end up back at the tower of babel. We all will eventually cry for a brick that falls from a tower over a man, and we will throw men off of towers to have them turn into beasts of burden.
