This is genuinely one of the worst editions of CRAB ever and one of the worst Round 3s of all time. The quality is probably peak, but there is too many fucking lows in here it almost cancels that out. The organization was also dogshit. Weak GM, weak management, weak tournament.

Ana vs. Fishimote: Ana (automatic vote)
Bummer that Fishi couldn't deliver in time, cause it was one of the entries I was looking forward to the most, but despite that, I liked how well Ana's entry handled both the clown takeover and the character relations without feeling stuffed.

Dizzy V. Caddi: Dizzy (automatic vote)
Same case here, though to a much lesser extent, I think I'll prefer Dizzy's entry over the Ragdoll's either way, it has proven that Caddi wasn't trying much in this tourney, while Dizzy is still upping her game and made a great lasting impression in general, and on her R3.

Diana v. Clovis: Clovis
Now this, was something I could be having a hard time picking, in which I did for a day, but ultimately, I like Clovis' story more, there's something morbidly satisfying about seeing someone who's considered "a villain" to win, especially when you saw much of Clovis-Anon's previous entries and side stories fleshing Clovis out, you can kind of feel bad him being betrayed and let down by others for many reasons, despite his bigoted tendencies and somewhat dickish attitude, seeing it all dust away gives a sense of closure I felt needing in his story, bonus points for presenting his story in MSPFA format, makes it more fun to read in a way I miss websites used to do in the past.

Adel v. Axxpos: Adel

Okay, this one I actually struggled to give my thoughts of, since one's a JRPG of which I lost cause I barely know what to do in games of that genre, and the other was supposed to be a game, but it resulted in a script being released due to scope miscalculations, in which I had to be honest and I still choose Adel's entry because it felt the most entertaining in my opinión, sucks it ended this way, but I already had to read a lot of others just to read more, plus Axxpos' script felt too dry when it's not put as text on a game.

Ririna v. Kelly: Ririna
Kelly-Anon, I'm sorry, but I chose Ririna-anon's entry for a reason, it has that raw energy I've missed during round 2, which mostly comes from not playing it safe and always pulling surprises to the viewer, for better or worse, the CYOA format definitely helped revisiting this entry more rewarding, with each path leading to one wack ending to another, my favorite is the Gretchen-type ending.

Toabyak v. Gilroy: Toabyak
Oh, Toabyak-Anon, I lament all the bad stuff that happened to you behind the scenes, it really hampered your performance this year, and I thought you could pull through this round, but it seems that it just made you worse, honestly, I don't wanna beat him down for stuff out his control this time, I like Gilroy's entry, but this vote is for pity and empathy, rest easy, man.

Hemma v. Nio: Hemma

Now this is an easy vote, Hemma-Anon has been killing it this tournament, and what a way to send your streak off, and part of it was cause Nio-Anon misjudged her entry's scope, while yours knew what it wanted to be, it closes up Hemma's ongoing story pretty nicely, and sends a good message by the end of the comic, Hemma deserves the world, man.

Berno v. Rubber Golem: Berno (automatic vote?)

Bummer that RG-Anon didn't deliver on time (apart from a placeholder), so half of the vote is by default, the other one was because I do like Berno's comic and it's theme of found family being setup and concluded well nicely (both from Berno's team and his buddies from his homeworld).

Jugglejack v. Melody: Jugglejack

Man, it feels like I'm cheating on this, but I like Dea's cameo at the start of Juggle-anon's entry, didn't expect the idea of the Surprise Tentacles to make the cut, but I'm glad it did, the rest of it as well, but that was the entry's highlight to me, (oh, and btw, based as hell to feature that Darkmode x M4tron thing in your entry)

This one should be obvious, but Timey takes the win for me, the unique style that TW-Anon has is put to the highest limit on this one and the stakes are well thoughout, and the ending defo was interesting that I wondered about Timey's future, bonus points for the audiobook as well.

Ash v. Savage Henry: Ash
Not much to say about this match, other than I liked Ash's plot more.

Leon Cosmico v. N377: Leon (Automatic vote)

N377-anon has dipped out of R3, so I'll just leave this out for now, leon C's entry was good, though idk what else to say about it.

Ivy v. Gretchen: Gretchen
i like both entries from this matchup, though I prefer Gretchen's because of the ending.

Speedrun v. Zorquan: Speedrun (automatic vote?)

Speedy's entry was more enjoyable for me in the end.


Smoke v. Leon the Lizard: Smoke

This wasn't a contest at all, which sucks cause Lizard-anon wasn't doing well mentally lately, so he made jackshit, I wouldn't be harsher on him, if not for Smoke's entry, which made me hooked on it on it's writing alone.

Atta v. blue ice fox: Atta

Atta is bae (also Needle didn't deliver anything apart from a joke submission, but for real, glad to see closure on Atta's arc)

Aiyori v. BK: Aiyori

Thought Aiyori's entry was more complete-feeling than the latter.

Jun-Ho v. Scarlet v. Admiral Pizza: Jun-Ho

I wanted to like Admiral Pizza's entry, but it felt like the copy I was playing on wasn't working as intended, which made me question where was the actual ending and such, I like some of Scarlet's backgrounds in her entry, but otherwise, I just pick Jun-Ho's because it felt the least aimless.

I'll leave my judgements after I attend the reading session for Shirley-Anon entry for now.

This is kinda hard to decide, I would rather pass it. Due to Ax'ppos anon's explaination it's understandable. Die Adel game was a little fun if not Ocapon game fun but it was enjoyable. If I had to vote cause you can't skip it then I vote for Adel.

Both has fun bits but I like the face expressions and the endings you can choose for the entry. Ririna takes the cake.

Love the way, how you drew Debbie, drunk Debbie was kind of fun here. Lot's of going on in your entry, some text was hard to read but still enjoyable.

Fun read with a wholesome ending. A bit sad nothing came from Ellie, would have loved how that turned out but no problem.

Very wholesome entry, I liked the part with Hemma talking to his Sister one last time. Very nice stuff. I do also like the drawings with the backgrounds Nio did.

Leo was a bit more story focused while Diesel was more for the action. I enjoyed the Diesel fight more, altough Leo's plot was nice too, I just didn't liked the song during the fight. Sad he dies in both entries.

Ash's entry had more colors and nicer visuals. Henry's entry was drawn well but feels kinda empty, there was not enough background and such.

Kino artstyle and pages and with some cool gifs, it's like reading a comic in the 80's. Great stuff.

I liked the ending with Ivy meeting her dead friend again to rest in piece with her together. Ivy's entry was funny as well, Gretchen looked very sexy in des' style.

True. At least the Freakers seemed more united in their absolute chaos even after they were forcefully disbanded, they mostly stuck together and were the core of the rebellion.
Chariot was a disaster from the start with a neglectful headliner (Lovell), a notorious flake who only cares about bondage (Caddi) and 2 newbies who didn't really understand the tourney (Speedrun recovered well, Bakutsu fucked off luckily). Ana-anon was the only competent person in that team

Savage Henry vs Ash: Henry
Ash is a tradchad, however in this case that doesn't work out, because some parts eye rough. The limited colour usage focuses the eye on the most important parts, really.
Henry has black and white, sharp and clean art here. Just as Ash, it only entails the fight, but it showcases both character more.

Gretchen vs Ivy: Ivy
As much as I did enjoy Gretchen's entry, Ivy's got me giggling like a bakvis


Dieseljunkie vs Leo: DJ
My old teammate vs a new headliner. Animation in different styles.
What DJ did better was keeping it high energy fighting. Yes, the images weren't fully rendered, but we have all seen the stickman animations before.
Leo's artwork was partly more detailed, but lacked a continuing explosiveness in the animation. In regards of the BGM; I don't think it would've been bad if you just sang it with conviction, without the massive restraint.

Shirley vs Zehya: Zehya
Despite reading it all, rather than being intrigued, the foot scene disgusted to my core.

Inspector corpus vs Iggy Azelea: Ignatius
HI brought an A-game, but straight up made it frustrating to read with the forced French accent. His everlasting enemy is moreso anatomy than any other part of his entry, yet it would've been alot harder to choose if he didn't enter the written out accent.
Ignatius brought his A-game too, went even harder than on his THESIS MOVIE and yet I have something whine about. During the wrestling, it would not have hurt to have more dynamic animation instead of having the background and then scrolling the images over the fight. It could've been the same, with a different presentation and it would've worked way better.
Kudos to both.

Lovell vs Time warrior: L- Time Warrior
Lacks, Lacks, Lacks. Potential man. I know your pc killed its harddrive and that sucks, but I coped for more.
Time Warrior dropped and insane comic, if I'm honest. The alt style is incredibly interesting to look at, almost as if it is graffitied on.

I am incredibly biased to anything that has no set-in-stone ending. I like the approach and it is new and refreshing, but it is very frustrating for me.

I AM LE BETTER ARTIST. Jokes aside, HC did portray Mendi better as a trickster, it shows that he understands how to write character alot better than me, since most of mine are just very alike, very boring. HC showed to understand my own character better than I do.

Birthday Knight brings alot of visual spectable with wild pastels, but for me it makes it harder to read and it takes away from the experience.

Soft and squishy vs fit and perky. I have to say that Jugglejack's entry had me grinning a couple times. The pacing was pretty good and the art was very consistent.
Melody, I can always respect a joke about other crabs, like Berno's lil bombs hehe. The other jokes pulled by your opponent and how Melody deals with it.
Ultimately a hard choice. In multiple ways.

Gilroy vs Toabyak:

Axppos can defend himself decently with the dialogues, but just as he defined the logic of his vote on my previous entries (my R1 is incomplete and my game in R2 could be better, to the point that he condescendingly gave me a code script), I am returning both of them here.

(Ana) v Fishimote: Thank you, double agent Ana, for removing this obstacle from Misfits' path. May the path to gold never abandon you after all you've gone through to find it.
Fishi san, resentment makes you stronger - so the key to defeating you is love. You have to learn to hurt those you love too. That is the lesson.
(Dizzy) v Caddie: Excellent effort, Dizzy-kun. I'm sorry they robbed you of your official chance to be part of CUM. This mistake shall never happen again.
Caddie: I was expecting three pages of bondage and wips... but you surpassed yourself.

(Ririna) v Kelly: a brave effort from both of you. One of the surprises of R3 for me.
Kelly, this is your best entry because it shows how much you've improved since the beginning, Kelly is one of my favorites. But what won me over was Ririna's introduction of the CYOA format to crab, which opens up a world of possibilities for crabs from now on. The curious thing is how to define the canonicity of multiple endings...

(Gilroy) v Tobyak: I like Gilroy's style, it's like Lammy/Parappa's artist after a night of drugs, sex and tequila and joined /crab/. That said, you need to improve your colours and readability a lot. Your black and white pages are better in my opinion.

Marv anon is invincible in R3 and I would have liked to see more from the cops, like everyone else, again

(Kell) v Ellie: I'm sorry you didn't get the match-up you wanted. And I understand that Ellieanon, whom I consider a great artist, had no incentive against Kell, besides the fact that his team was already out of the running. I imagine these are the reasons, but I may be wrong.
Kellanon, you are a good artist, but you fell headlong into the trap of talking heads. It is incredibly boring to see how you abuse this resource. It greatly limits the visual appeal of your entries, and I am not interested in you delivering first if half of your panels are going to be heads. Even so, you finished on time and in the right way, and even did everything necessary to be satisfied.

(Shirley) vs Zehya: To be honest, Zehya struck me as a miserable specimen from R1 onwards. The duel with Atta broke you and guided your hand from then on. You developed Stockholm syndrome and dragged out the poison thing way beyond what most people were interested in. I banked on both games, so I don't understand why you didn't use renders to illustrate the backgrounds, which in your style are a must. Solid work as a headliner, but not really inspiring this year.
Shirley: Very good work, but it seems to me that you wanted to compress an entire development tournament into a single round, and let me tell you, there was no way you could deliver a comic illustrating the story for R3 today. Still, I liked how varied it was and how detailed the illustrations were.
Crab4 requires much more reading ability than I anticipated, and I'm not sure I like that direction.

Diesel vs (Leo):
One of the most difficult duels for me to vote on. But I'm voting for Leo because I know he's going to lose and I'm fine with that. Diesel-kun: Smooth animation reminiscent of the stickman animations of yesteryear. But I don't think Diesel has any personality beyond the battle. What happened? I think compared to Sack, who had a lot of personality, Diesel was a downgrade. And I don't think silent characters are your strong suit. Even so, your entry was easy to watch, which is more than I can say for Leo's... Your entry was painful to watch, full of talent and potential but so poorly utilised because you lack the judgement to know what to take and what to leave out, and what your limits are. I admit that the flyer and the other two rounds, even though they were incomplete, tarnished my perception of your abilities, and I do not recommend that you be the headliner next year, if you return.
If you aimed to make cringeworthy cinema with this entry, you have a future. If not, you have a lot to learn.
Even so, I respect that you do music and voice acting, although both are more a product of passion than pragmatism.

HI vs (Ignatius): HIanon is good at comedy and animation, so I'm surprised he didn't go for either of those with this proposal. It was an excellent entry, and it made me add the Bogs to my own entry out of pure respect and so as not to overlook the obvious history that both have with crab. But I choose Ignatius because what he was able to achieve in terms of quality and quantity in record time is a lesson in balancing ambition and realistic scope for all the other animators who tried and failed to achieve something similar. The real headliner of Nullstars, ladies and gentlemen.

It was a good story plot and it did feel like there was for the first time a big stake into CRAB where there is a force outside of just the Gamemaster that is actively fucking with the characters.

The big problem was both a majority of the CRABs refusing to play ball and Atta-anon probably catching a fish they couldn't haul in. Artists started to go into panic mode after the R1 reveal and some desperately tried to do whatever they could to assure their character wasn't poisoned somehow, almost to the point of mental gymnastics.

But at the same time, the gigantic gambit of Atta-anon putting his trust in the audience that they are okay with Atta controlling over 90% of the contestants was perhaps a bit asking for too much letting go of agency than most CRABs were willing to do.

This concoction resulted into the soul poison plot just ending in a wet fart with Berry of all people saving everyone. It made it that there were little to no stakes for Atta entering R3, especially when she faced a character like Needle - who was unaffected by the poison and overall apathetic to whatever goes on.

Again, an adventurous but daring attempt at higher-level storytelling in CRAB, but sadly had some gaps in there. I will still applaud Atta-anon for attempting to do it.

Even if the plan had succeeded it was going to be that Crabs could be cured before r3 and by the end the poison arc had to be solved against Atta's favor. This was beyond me and only logical - I could not pretend that it works because chances are I don't win the tournament and then its a narrative mismatch. Narrative is all I care about in CRAB though I feel I failed to convey that point. Unironically when I drew my R1 I was not expecting anyone to make a big deal about the reveal and most to ignore it (and most did which was fine by me), because people did react I tried to build an arc out of it. Once that arc was defeated, there was no point on pursuing that path... Well, actually it would have depended on what opponent I got for my last round but I got the one that allowed me to give Atta closure, the happiest ending she could have gotten at that point. I admit part of picking that was me feeling dejected about the whole thing.

Well I must say. I really loved how things ended in this year's tournament. The rebels have successfully killed DOOMVA and almost everyone is just okay with it. But hey. If killing the GameMaster equals three way wishes, I'd be down, too. Not to mention we have Debbie as our new GameMaster. Given how much effort she put in that tournament, I think this is a fitting role for her. (Even though it's only temporary.) We should have more crazy endings like this in future CRABs. It's a riot!
