I found out that an artist I followed was the one behind the victorian big boob girl slop tsunami years ago and that he quickly implemented ai into his workflow.
Just look at this before and after and tell me that the after doesnt resemble AI a lot and with his history of using it and posting it it isnt like he is unaware of it.

Refer to the tweets posted above.

My problem is that I like the big titty bitches. I see them, I want to ref them for learning and I want to draw fat milkers like that with that weight and that obscene size but the moment I realize the "original artist" is using AI as great part of their workflow I ask myself "How much am I copying the artist and how much am I copying the AI?
Is it just retarded moral grandstanding? Maybe. I see it a lot at my worplace as I am a programmer/sysadmin/manager for even dumber codemonkeys and I see how AI is fucking the world over.
Students dont even think anymore because chatgpt does everything for them.
My coworkers have copilot writing most of their code and then they wonder why the fuck it has undefined behaviour they didnt expect to be there. They are pushing code to production that they dont know how it works or why!
I am trying to learn and inevitably comparing my art to sloppers who are being enabled by AI!
How did he get that composition and think of it? AI.
How did he choose those colours and camw up with that soft shading method? AI
How is he so fucking fast? AI.

I know that nothing short of a worldwide blackout or firebombing every single data center will stop it but even then I hate it.
I am surrounded by people who see no qualms on growing dependent on mega corporations who will melt them down for fuel the moment they can!

I played around with AI the first time in what must have been 1.5 years...
it's gotten so good. We already lost.
I still draw and have i fact started drawing when AI was taking off.
But it's a hollowed out pursuit now. The purpose is nothing more than therapy. It's devoid of meaning and ambition now. It's just for myself.

I feel like I must adapt, but in a way I'd rather give up on art than to be sweatshop worker cleaning up some AI product.

I think picking art as a craft to make money is sort of stupid.
But now that I can for sure not make any money off it given that some random 70IQ Indian can out-draw me with a button click I wonder whether I really never had a monetary ambition in this. If I had it's probably better to quit, because that's fucking stupid. Plenty of skills pay better faster. Possibly all of them. Drawing was shit tier for money making even before AI. Who'd pay for images? Just a few studios who look for the cheapest bidder.

>>7757000

Anonymous No.7757031
>>7757028
You're not wrong. At the same time, was that why you chose art? For me, it felt like money comes second in the grand scheme of things; I'm just addicted to the freedom of being able to create whatever I want, with the quality depending on how hard I try and study. It's the one trade that pays off for me, as I'm unable to do anything else.

When you're retarded and disabled and the gov't is pulling the NEETbux, what else is there? Could wank sure, but all you're left with is a mess. Versus art - someone out there has seen your art and it meant something to them, even if they don't say anything.

Or you can make shock art and really affect those that see it.

Is there anything 'right' with my drawings? I've fallen so deep into the self-flagellating permabeg hole that I'm having a hard time seeing anything appealing in what i'm trying to make anymore. I'm also struggling to break out of the sketching phase, rather just abandoning an idea and moving onto the next drawing instead of trying to 'finish' a piece. Are there some exercises that I could do in order to get more comfortable with committing to lineart or just painting over a sketch?

I think the things I dislike the most are my super shaky lines, nonexistent understanding of anatomy, wonky hair and overall 'flat' feel of the drawings I make. since you're being serious I will give some redpills and truth nukes. it's faux anime so there is nothing right about it on a stylistic level
>cant make things three dimensional
3d or "anatomy" won't make your drawings look good. it's a psyop. study the 2d design of an anime style you want to draw like. even if you stick with fauxanime it's going to be much better. especially if you have limited time don't waste it on useless drills but learn to replicate anime faces drawn by good Japanese artists, even a little study adds up surprisingly quickly.

Wdym by 'faux anime' ?
I'm not sure if I want to go for an anime look or not, but I dont really know how to paint rather than just using lines, so I think that's causing the look to some extent.
>3d or "anatomy" won't make your drawings look good. it's a psyop.
Really? I was told to do gesture and figure drawing in order to have an easier time conveying 3d on a 2d plane. Isnt an understanding on three dimensionality important even for anime style drawings?
>especially if you have limited time don't waste it on useless drills but learn to replicate anime faces drawn by good Japanese artists, even a little study adds up surprisingly quickly.

basically something that tries to superficially ape anime without ever understanding how it works.

gesture and figure drawing are good, see hide channel for that. "fundies" like drawabox that use construction or 3d or prescriptive "anatomy" as a crutch are garbage.

yeah, a sense of space but not literal (simplified) 3 dimensional emulation of blender on paper. this is true even for realism styles of anime. depending on the style there are different ways of conveying implied 3 dimensionality of the features of the face and so on.

yeah, and trying to make original drawings based on the info you learned.

fauxanime is detectable even on the shape level, you can squint your eyes and most of the time tell if it's Japanese or faux anime. it's the poor understanding of 2d shapes that causes fauxanime, poor painting can only exacerbate it.

That's the wrong construction for anime in 3d, you are using semi realism for something stylized, it would be like drawing a cat skull structure to draw tom from tom and jerry. You were supposed to be simplifying the form in to planes, like a lowpoly 3d model.

Of course, needles to say, this is abstraction, an skill only properly achievable once you understand the form of the head enough to take it's elements and simplify to the basics. Hence why realism is often the idea for starting studying. And I know you trying to bait and everything, but even behind your bait I can notice heavy ignorance about the topic, so I hope this helps you either way.

This is a semantic issue. Simplification in this case does not mean lack of detail. it means abstraction. Taking a form, breaking down to it's basics and using the basics as a building structure for stylization, but still grounded in the rules of whatever you broke down for the sake of being cohesive or with elements exaggerated for any desire effect.

You have no argument, construction is construction when the Japanese do it too, and westerners are not limited to constructing like... Loomis? Hampton? What do you even mean by westerner construction?

We're discussing the practical merits of different approaches to an activity, evaluating the results is essential, not an afterthought. Just be honest and admit you're embarrased that your art doesn't match the grandiosity of your words.

Redraw it to be correct if you can see how it's wrong (it's not, you're just applying a broken western view to it because you can't draw anime). But either way how would that affect the girl on the right? There is no distortion on that drawing.

I always wondered why people freak out over muh asian genes when the reason why Japanese people are good at art is because they're an artistic culture. Art is respected and encouraged in their society in a way that's just not seen in America (there are a handful of European countries that are the same way so that's why I'm not saying "the west")

Yeah that is part of it. In the west there is a tendency to think there is nothing more to 2D art than simplified 3D forms and if they encounter something they can't explain or replicate, it must be the result of an oversight instead of a developed way of drawing 2D art.

I stagnate myself for months now (as seen I barely improved after the first two months - most definitely because I didn't do anything but draw from ref and imagination instead of doing my Bridgies).
The only way to get better when stagnating is to change something - or so I believe. I don't know myself yet.
My plan is to dedicate some time on pure anatomy and 1.5x more time on a daily drawing. Then on weekends I will try to improve exactly one thing. If I improve every week, the way is only up.

>how do you feel about your style? any inspirations or reasons it developed that way?
It's not a pretty style. I remember someone once saying it's maximal unappealium which made me chuckle a bit. It for sure is a bit jarring.
I allowed myself to draw how it comes natural to me, to indulge a bit in my soul - but the plan is to eventually overcome it and draw more harmonious and appealing.
My first year drawing was about just drawing, my second will be structured study. I will also consider copying artists.

I have no inspiration besides the dedication of Algenpfleger. I have a full inspo folder, but I don't know who those artists are and the art styles are vastly different. I enjoy my stuff to be a bit unsettling, with figures who are a bit too long, a bit too alien to be quite right.
But I've had my fun. It is time to get more serious about art and to improve.

Thanks for reading my blog.

>>7760292
I want to think timing has been somewhat beneficial in a backwards way. I've become faster for sure... the earlier drawings were 30-45 min and I'd focus too much on details first. Prior to this I was spending hours on each drawing... it was not sustainable or efficient for improvement. I don't think constraining myself to an arbitrary time limit is what actually is helping, more the side effects of that. I think I understand the concept of gesture drawings now and why they useful but I don't think I am quite at the level for them to be effective practice.

To me it appears more useful to try and do what you did lol but it's hard to try and compose a character by myself when all I've done so far are copy studies... but maybe I'm rushing since I've only done 5 or so.

You'd benefit from studies if you can do them incorporating the techniques in pic related, I do some of them naturally but forget to flip the canvas or take a break etc.

Sure, and of course it's not 100% confirmed him, it could be someone aping him, but taking another anon's work and drawing on it without quoting that anon or saying anything TOGETHER with everything else is pretty clearly pointing to him.

Hello, new to this board in general, i have some art that wants critiquing and some advice in general, here are 3 figure drawings are did today in picrel, i am personally very surprised i was able to do this as yesterday's were really bad, however i feel like im in my own bubble saying this, so i'm looking for an outside view. I first did a quick gesture of each, then removed that and tried some construction, then just filled in the rest. I only did as many gesture lines and constructions as i needed to get it looking like the references, to me. Is this a good way to study? I'm not sure if im learning anything here, other than maybe a bit of proportions. I've posted this in /DAD/ and /fig/ in case this is the wrong place.

do gesture drawing first before attempting construction. try a couple dozen 2 minute gestures

I also see little consistency on the shapes you attribute to each body part on each drawing. you decided to block the rib cage on the top right and not on the left. this is ok, but at your stage I think you did this because you are not sure of what to do.

try to find an artist you like and copy his construction dummies.

so

1- practice gesture
2- learn a construction dummy
3- construct your dummy on top of the gesture

after a week or two redraw those 3 figures you just posted to evaluate your results and observe your own progress.

I was asking if I'm doing them right or if they are at least looking like they are going somewhat in the right direction or not. I tried to imitate the gestures other people do for a bit, like hampton for example, but if I do that they suddenly start taking me about 5 minutes per pose each.

pretty decent, what you could focus on is keeping right planes and curves. On your ref we see head from top view. Thats why you can't see his neck and top of head is visible and apear bigger.
You did quite well job with head but face features remained a bit too straight and it looks a bit off. Look closly on curves of his upper lip and eyelids, see how they follow really strong curve.

Good job, this looks way better than what I have seen from you so far.
Some things I would point out:
The construction ball you drew at the beginning is not being utilized fully. The vertical guide line can be used to indicate the centerline of the face. That will help prevent mistakes like how your nose is drawn farther from the eye. And don't forget to draw the ball on a separate layer from your actual drawing, so you can hide it or reduce the transparency once you no longer need it.
The cheek is a bit too wide and throws off the angle of the face.
You are drawing the eyes and ears significantly smaller than your reference, which makes them look like they are too far apart.
A lot of this will be easier for you to see for yourself if you try overlaying your drawing on the reference like picrel.

Also, if you were trying to copy the art style as well as the drawing, I think you should attempt to copy the small details that give it charm, like the line at the bottom of the eyes, the blush hatches, the line gap at the jaw, and the angle and direction of the eyelashes.

1. How do I get the creative juices flowing? For hairstyles, different eye types, character concepts, etc.

2. How do I make it feel like I'm using structure to draw my heads instead of making random lines and hoping they end up looking good? I seem to not be able to picture anything in my mind and then I just shit something out randomly by mindlessly drawing. I don't like this process/feeling.

Yeah I meant you my bad. The reference, while seemingly simple, has a lot of very minor rotations in the body that makes it a surprisingly complex composition. The head is angled downward, the arm doing the v-pose is coming out and toward the viewer, the the body itself is oriented at a 3/4 uh, angle or whatever you call it. You'd be better off breaking down the entire body into simple shapes rather than trying to recapture parts of the pose, if only to understand just how exactly the artist figured everything would overlap and stuff.

not the anon you are arguing with, but the concept of the noobie gains applies here.
this guy drew for a year, he saw massive improvement, as many beginners do. then, improvement start slowing down as you get into the int and advanced stages of drawing. its the same with anything, take lifting, take learning a language, doing anything really. at that point, all you can do to improve is taking courses, learn from the masters and be very patient.
i wouldn't call "talent" this natural ability to be able to draw, what I classify as "talent" is just having subconscious knowledge that you can apply to drawing. for example, some people are way better in visualizing things in their head, some people are super creative because they were allowed to express themselves as a child, some people can see things in 3D because they work in a field that trains them on it subconsciously, etc.
innate "talent", that you were born with as a baby, doesn't really exist in my book, unless we get into physical sport, then yes it might be encoded in your DNA but for other things, it's a question of nature versus nurture in my book

Nobody said it can't be. Are you talking with voices in your head? People are still born with genetic predispositions to learn it faster with less effort. That's how it is. All I see is you coping and seething at simple biological facts. I am also drawing more than you.

I have negative talent.
Here's a head I drew from imagination after grinding head constructions. My girlfriend doesn't even draw at all and she could just draw a simple portrait of me from imagination in 2 minutes that resembled me almost perfectly. I am autistic and my perception of human faces is comically bad. This is what talent is. People are born with natural abilities that define their skill ceiling, floor and learning rate. I had to grind hundreds and hundreds of figgies just so I could draw something resembling humanoid.
Btw I have masters in math so don't bother typing something about muh IQ or whatever cope. I am simply born with negative drawing talent and have to work 1000 times harder than talented people to achieve same results.

well there you go, you are born with autism. i was too and its incredibly hard for me to draw faces accurately as a result of it.
i think its because i tend to avoid looking at peoples faces, also i cant even remember my own face at times.
so thats definitely a challenging factor, but i can draw clothing and bodies perfectly fine. in your book, you'd probably call me talented, even though we struggle with the same thing.

>I am autistic and my perception of human faces is comically bad.
There's your explanation for "talent" btw. Guess what, your girlfriend doesn't have some innate knowledge of faces that she was born with. She just had decades of looking at faces and understanding what they look like and also had a long time of looking at your face. Being able to draw stuff is all about memory and understanding. Closest thing to talent is just stuff spatial understanding imo, though even that is just because some people naturally think in a more spatial way, which makes them have more practice. Drawing is just knowledge, and there's not a lot of it in there when you're born.

Good news is, unless you've got some kind of learning disability you can catch up to most people. Obviously you need to grind, but that's just because others had a headstart and not because they learn more easily. They've just done it for longer.
One advantage you have is that you actually know that you want to learn faces and can actively think about learning them, while they just passively absorbed that stuff over years which is much slower.

Of course some people do understand stuff more easily, but again, I believe it's just thinking patterns in most cases. Just like every normal person can learn basic level math, ever person can learn the fundamental parts of art.
Actual prodigies of art are just as rare as prodigies in any other field. And did you quit math just cause you're not be the next Euler or Ramanujan?

I'm gonna ask you straight up, and not as a gotcha: Did you trace these?
Cause I struggle to believe someone can be this accurate but >>7761902 is the best you can do from imagination? Why are the center lines pretty much perfect here, but not even in the correct spot in the one from imagination.
If you did trace them, that's fine, but I'd really recommend learning how to do them freehand.
And if these aren't traced, your ability to observe is amazing. What you could try to improve your imagination then is to draw the heads twice. Once normally and then trying to turn them a bit. Basically training yourself to imagine the head in different angles and really understanding the underlying forms.
Cause the only explanation I have for the huge disparity between these and your stuff from imagination is that you don't actually understand what you are drawing and instead just copying contours.
You can probably learn through this, but it will be much slower and more painful than it needs to be.

I did that precision training thing when I drew it, overlapped and if my drawing didn't match the original, I redrew it again. These heads are Nth attempt at matching construction as precise as possible. But I did trace first heads to understand the angles better before constructing from observation
>the only explanation I have for the huge disparity between these and your stuff from imagination is that you don't actually understand what you are drawing and instead just copying contours
This is correct, I have no mental model for what head looks like. I think I can imagine a face, but I'm drawing blanks when I actually draw it. I can recite loomis method and now I can draw a much better head after more training, but I had to train like a circus monkey repeating the same thing over and over again without any deeper understanding. And I still can't convey any real likeness

Don't just draw the most basic construction. You have to start drawing the features and think of WHY they take that shape due to perspective and anatomy of the skull and muscles. Because the forms of those features will change based on perspective. There are plenty of diagrams and I'll post some of them in next thread since image limit is reached. But what you're doing right now is trying to draw the Taj Mahal, drawing a cube from various angles, and saying it's a study of the Taj Mahal at various angles.

First of all, nice work on the observation then.
I'm probably gonna go against the grain here when I say that I personally think it's not important to be perfectly accurate for a beginner. I think it's way more important to get to "good enough" and move on to the next reference(If it's way off, obviously redoing it is a good idea). Of course accuracy is important in the long run, but what good is accuracy when you don't actually understand anything yet.
>but I had to train like a circus monkey repeating the same thing over and over again without any deeper understanding
That is how it is sometimes. Look for ways to understand of course, but sometimes you just need to grind until something clicks
>I think I can imagine a face, but I'm drawing blanks when I actually draw it.
I'm gonna reiterate my advice to draw the heads twice then. One as a "good enough" copy and one where you try to rotate the head. This should build up your ability to imagine heads without having to go at it from zero.
>And I still can't convey any real likeness
Makes sense, getting a specific structure is basically impossible if you have trouble getting down any structure. That just comes with time.

Also, you mentioned months upon months of grinding and said you've been at this for 2 years at least >>7762252.
Obviously I don't know how much time you actually spent on art, but learning takes a really long time and I think you're underestimating how far along you might be. I'm not talking hundreds, but thousands of hours to even get decent. Not every hours needs to be spent drawing, cause naturally, learning from others and trying to figure stuff out will require you to just think sometimes.

Like I said before, I believe "talented people" just have a headstart because they started thinking about it way before they actually started drawing it.

What I’m saying is the grind doesn’t matter, you could draw 10,000 Loomis heads and make zero progress if you aren’t actively thinking of how to generate a 3D form in a 2d environment. You comment on every one of these threads saying the same thing and not retaining any of the advice you are given. You have no clear goals, no structure to your practice. And worst of all I feel like you aren’t even having fun. You should enjoy studies. When you do a study you should see it as a puzzle to figure out, not a set of hurdles.

>Like I said before, I believe "talented people" just have a headstart because they started thinking about it way before they actually started drawing it.
I disagree. First, I don't think there are people who are "talented at art". Art skill is a set of many complex skills. There are people, who have innate predispositions towards learning some skills that make up art. They can learn certain areas much faster and they don't have to even think consciously to see improvements. When somebody is born with aptitude towards some skills that person is called a talented artist. When somebody is born with aptitude towards many such skills he is called a genius. It's funny that westerners get so upset from notion of talent, when asian artists know some people are just born to be better artists and some aren't.
