I got past the point where the shota mc and his edgy bishonen shota rival were running through a field vs a gay clown the show wanted to portray as intimidating, then they had to hunt a pig for a special dinner or else they would never become super great or some shit, and I stopped watching.

The thing with Togashi, it always starts out rough but once he puts the pieces on the board and tells you the rules the game plays out beautifully.

You miss out on a lot, anon

also worth pointing out that the 2011 adaptation is just plain ugly, the parts 1999 were able to animate are far superior.

That is a shitty jrpg, then. Just like nu god of war is a shitty action game. What about a horror movie that lacks atmosphere and tension in the first act. A death metal album that is 1/3 synth 1/3 pink floyd worship (looking at you, Blood aincantation). A poem that begins by fucking up it's meter. A plate of food where your first bite is soggy and with a bit of off seafood. Or a painting that always draws the eye first to a bit of crap shape design and garish colour.
All that is poor craftsmanship. At the very best, it's a good work compromised by it's beginning. At worst, it ruins the whole thing.
I swear, every HXH fag is the same. Sing the show's high praises, never giving reason why past X or Y aspect being "great". Then they don't understand why everyone else finds them to be annoying pseuds.

Demon slayer is like a 6-6.5/10 The beginning Hunter Ecks Hunter has been a 4 at best. And of course, at the end of the day there is no such thing as genuinely great battle shonen. Ironically, Yu Yu Hakusho, often comared to HXH, was more compelling at the beginning and got worse as it neared the tournament arc, veering into power level wankery. What I'm saying is, swimming through shit to get to fresh water is retarded, l and contaminates the fresh spring, so it's no wonder why nobody else wants to watch further. But it says a lot about Hunter X Hunter fans that they find the beginning sufficiently high quality, automatically putting into question the high praise they give to later episodes.

It's not just the visual aspect, the tone and pace of the narrative/directing, makes it much more emotionally shallow.
In 99 you have a lot of detail, nuance and implications and becomes more immersive as a result. In 11 everything is rushed, generic, too sanitized and 'made obvious' and harder to connect with the characters and situations, it's more 'ADHD' for a lack of a better term.
>>7761457
I'd only watch it from the point the OVAs end, so the start of Chimera Ant arc, unless you want to read the manga.

>Oh they shot their Nen power?
>They're emission type, right?
>WRONG THEY'RE A FUCKING SPECIALIST AND IM NOT EXPLAINING WHY DUMB FUCK.
>..."OH MY NEN..." just kill me fucking now please.

I realise most Manga/Anime power systems fail, but HxH's is just overrated by people who don't actually understand it at all. I wouldn't doubt that Togashi himself got lost in the sauce with it.

Arguably the best board on 4chan. Unlike nodraws on /ic/, they actually read and write. Quite a few published authors.

hxh's counter-intuitiveness may be interesting if conceptual. math is counter-intuitive too but this does not invalidate soundness. hxh's scenario itself is full of somewhat clever-ish tricks to be engaging almost like detective conan

I really like Soul Eater and Fire Force's power system. It stands out and is creative compared to everything else put there.

Mines fairly loose. People sort of gain power through I guess 'consuming' and subjugating 'spirits'. Like elemental/seasonal spirits or the spirits of a place or item.

It will in theory let me give a lot of characters a lot of powers and allow for different kinds of characters in my setting and stories.

I have done shit all with it so far other than as backstories for my oc's and important characters I haven't even drawn yet. fml.

Hydroelectric dams, I guess? The cut a pretty cool image, like a giant fortress wall.
And if the dam ever breaks, you can surf on the sickest wave of your life, like in the cartoons.

It is worse quality than 99, but i still prefer it over 2011 because of the aforementioned directing/soundtrack related reasons (being more chill and less adhd) and because 2011 spoils the identity of the bomber with the opening from the start of the arc. The visuals of the GI OVA aren't terrible, and the presentation of the story matters more.
>generally regarded as bad
That's true because people copypaste their opinion from what's already popular, when 2011 premiered all the new fanbase assumed 99 was terrible and only after years of older fans promoting it some new fans dared to give it a try (some prefered it, others didn't), but almost no one defended the GI OVA because it's not as easy to defend as 99, but it's still decent enough, whereas 11 is a direct downgrade to the parts previously adapted.

The fuck do people even mean by "power systems"? Some sort in universe rules of magic?
Anonymous No.7770102 [Report] >>7770144
>>7770077
Yeah you could just call it a magic system, but a power system is the autism chart that explains how abilities actually work source, limits, growth, etc. Could be magic, tech, biology, whatever, as long as it follows some made-up physics. A good one has consistent rules so fights and progress feel earned instead of random. It’s the foundation that keeps powers from being pure plot armor fanfic bullshit

A thing I unintentionally always did with comics is that, on average, nobody's that great of a fighter, and accounting for some skills or aptitude it's all street-level and human in scale, and the fighting is pretty realistic. But in this context I also had one guy who's straight out of late stage shonen. Just that one guy and he's not the MC or anybody directly supporting the MC. He's just there to fuck shit up

I often think about this with Rozen Maiden which starts godawful, the characters have powers that are never brought up again, there's a bunch of meandering nonsense, and generally feels amateur. But then it establishes itself and gets great. I love Rozen Maiden. I know what you mean and I'm not saying every good manga is like that but many older manga often have shaky beginnings because it's just semi-amateur projects that got into serialization. the medium wasn't as codified back then, it was the price to pay for that bit of extra creativity instead of yet another dum isekai paint by numbers slop story with the same checklist of generic tropes
