i've been revisiting places here and there and changing the grout on the floor plates to look more fluid and technological. my basic floor plate design has never really made me happy, but i keep it simple to make future edits easier. the area around the gravity lift on deck 5 is what i'm aiming for across the rest of the ship. i currently restarted work on deck 3. added the wings of the balcony above the chapel and started editing floor plates throughout deck 3.

Tbh I used to get mad at this too but after learning to love art for what it is and for the act of making it while accepting things no matter how they come out as something positive and a job well done. I came back after quitting art due to it, got burnt out in 2 months because I keep comparing myself and hating everything I did. You can do it too anon. Just put some songs from laufey and get to drawing with no expectations. Pic very rel. Don't take it as a burn from people doing better than you like I did. Just follow the advice from it. thanks! i can't claim all of the credit for my ships though, i pay a guy in poland named AdamKop $125 USD and he makes me a 3D turntable of the ships and he sends me floor generic copypaste floor plans that i draw over with my own designs. my versions take a lot more time and effort to make but are far superior because they are pixel-perfect, fit the theme, and properly scaled.

i've been commissioning covenant ships from halo lately because i'm lazy and i've already perfected my asset database for covenant interiors. i used to do star wars ships too. i'm currently coming up with an asset pack for the skaven for WH40K. here's an old imperial ship i made.

something like this maybe, have Kos claws overlap felicia with one hand and be behind felicia on her head side that way you imply more depth like shes trapped inbetween. You have a solid idea to build on but you've started detailing too early. It's visually unclear what the focus of the image is supposed to be. Logically it's the catgirl but you're not drawing the eye to her strongly.
Extremely rough sketch but here's how I'd edit it. The rear leg and foot stood out to me as having an interesting line of motion so I'd make her whole body follow it's flow. Then to emphasize that she's the focus of the drawing and enforce the idea she's trapped, reposition the jiangshi girl's arms to fully envelope her, making the claws again follow the line of motion of the catgirl.

It's a little better but still not quite right. Think of the sections of the fingers as their own individual shape, it's easier to visualize if you color code them. The joint lines should match the crest of the line (marked with a black dot) which is where the individual sections connect. Yours are off because your silhouette isn't a perfect match for the ref, but you are still copying the lines of the ref joint.

I need to look at proportions more closely, my drawing is much wider than it should be, the placement of the left foot (right side) is off, both in placement and perspective.
The face is very wrong, and considering my other drawings, faces are something I should focus on more, placement and proportions of the face seem to be consistently wrong, especially when I draw in anything besides straight on or 1/2
There's something about the piece that feels unfinished, excluding the background, maybe it's the unblended colors or it's the soft undefined edges, but this may just be because of the low quality of the pencils used
Even though the main focus isn't backgrounds, the values definitely could've been pushed more to make the figure stand out.

The one drawing on the far right top looks very amateurish, it's struggling with proportions, anatomy, and perspective, even though it's the only drawing this poor on the page, it is my week spots.

Don't choose colors by simply grabbing a darker version of the color, change the saturation too. You can get away with conveying shadows by simply choosing a more contrasting hue. Shadows are generally also tinted toward the color of the background/ground, not towards black.

The problem is that you want to learn how to "speak" your vision, your "truth", but you lack the proper understanding or ability to do so.
You get better at speaking the best by getting continually corrected and encouraged by someone who can already speak very well, works the same with art.
The problem with approaching "grinding" and "scientific" approaches to artwork is most of the time misses the point of the messages you want to tell- and the way you want to say it.

Diff anon, but writing notes to me isnt about checking them per say. Its about thinking about a problem and deliberately conceptualizing what the problem with what i draw is. I heard the saying "Drawing is just proof of your thinking. The rest is just motor skill." And it struck with me.

The problem i ran into a lot was that i relied on intuition and subconscious understanding. Dragging those out into conscious limelight helped address the problems easier and enabled me to change how i do and view things.

Watching short videos of young Japanese schoolchildren simply drawing beautifully and receiving praise in the comments from other artists is so unpleasant. It kills any desire to draw.

I don't necessarily disagree with 16. and 17, but I think it really depends on when you notice the mistakes. If it's after you're mentally done with a piece, I say take the learning with you to the next one and don't dwell on it. If it's something during the process, decide depending on how big the correction would be. That's personal opinion though.
There's just one I kinda disagree with: 13. Form is very important and the basis of a lot, but I think shapes and - if not just lineart - value are equally as important and can't really be derived from form if you do any sort of stylization. They act together I'd say.

Honest question that'll probably be shat on: How do you learn to draw without wanting to kill yourself? It seems like the only way to learn to draw PROPERLY (as in, not making distorted Mike & Melissa-tier bullshit) is to spend years doing dogshit sketches of vases and chairs until you even start catching how basic perspective and form works. How can one keep doing this without losing all interest?

find a healthy balance between study and drawing for fun. you dont need to draw chairs and vases, in fact id probably say you shouldnt until you have at least some understanding of form.
it varies for everyone but i like to think of the skilltree as motivation > line confidence > 2d shape > proportion > 3d shape/form and after that it branches off depending on what you want to do (for example if you wanted to draw people i would focus on anatomy, figure drawing/flow, more advanced perspective etc). the vase and chair drawings are only really good for training your hand eye coordination and understanding of an objects relation to another object/plum lines.
you dont need to take the classical approach to drawing if you want to draw well. if your goal is to draw like the masters, then yes its probably necessary, but if you want to draw anime girls then just start drawing them while studying. unless youre super human youll probably burn out if you only draw perspective grids and do distillation studies for 2 years straight

I see. So how should one start? I get "reading the books" is probably the obvious thing but honestly I tried getting through Keys to Drawing and it's all just more of the same "draw your feet/hands/thing on your house" which while it does have some interesting tips, I don't feel like I apply them properly. Is it just general lack of motivation on my part?

I just started taking a life drawing class about a week ago, the teacher has us doing 1/2-4-20min - 1hr increment drawings of a model. So far he says I'm doing good but I'd like a second opinion (all of these done in charcoal)

Trying to draw heads from reference. I think I am slowly getting the grip with observational drawing but I really struggle with applying construction first.

I got tired after the first figure study and got sloppy on the 2nd. 3rd somehow came out alright. Is it normal to feel tired after losing focus in drawing?

How the fuck do I draw faster? I have friends that can draw an entire comic page in only a few minutes. Just today, I lost power and lost about 5 hours of work on something. That wouldn't have happened had I just been faster and not spent so much fucking time on it.

Trying to draw faster just means you'll make mistakes faster, which will slow you down. Focus on getting it right the first time and you'll get faster naturally. Use a ballpoint pen to force yourself to either place your lines right or accept your mistakes and move on

I watched streams from professional doujinshi artists and they usually take 8~12 hours per page.
Also, CSP has a feature that performs backups in case of a power outage, anyway, save your stuff.

That makes sense. I have seen a few guys who insist on drawing is MS Paint with a mouse so my thoughts went in that direction.
That looks really nice, is it time consuming to draw it like that?
Also, I noticed the eyes and nose have a slightly different angle to the rest.
