My fave. I'd say she's mostly on par with the Western Orientalist painters, although she focuses less on Historical compositions and clear events, her stuff looks a lot more like glamour photography or social interest snapshots. The better work is more in line with early Impressionist art.

not even close regardless of the subject or scope, and you should be embarrassed that you even said that
that she's working from photos instead of nature is also disgustingly evident

I dont like how detail are spread though the picture, looks very graphical and harsh. Color and brushwork are okey. Overall its fine, but nothing special.

My favorite orientalist is Fortuny, she is not even close.

I was going to take it back but I'm sure I've seen a number of Orientalist sketches that were about the same flatness. Not the exemplars of Orientalism, but maybe like a Léon François Comerre.

I'm a leftoid and I think the hate given to orientalist art is, at least to an extent, excessive. Yeah, it's glamourized and not exactly true to life, but that's what artists will do when encountering something so new yet appealing to them. One of the art leads for Super Giant Games (Hades, Transistor, Bastion) is an asian chick and she was inspired by orientalism.
