Catholicism certainly isn't uniform throughout its history, but I wouldn't be shy to say that there is a tenet of universalism. Aquinas, as far as I know, didn't opine upon nationhood. Nor other scholastics. They, Aristotle, Plato, were all more into virtue.
I will also say, my father's side are cradle Catholics, and I'd think they'd find these beliefs unrecognisable from their time in the Church.
