They have for some time now. I went to Japan a bit more than 10 years ago, and the few tourists were mostly weebs. Went back some time after Covid and it really changed, every "famous" location is now filled with tourists. Kyoto is simply unvisitable, and Tokyo in some parts too.
Most of the new tourists are chinks, pajeets, or viets, but also an awful number of normies who wouldn't know the difference between Japan and China some years ago.

In a geopolitical sense you are not wrong. But when we talk about pozzed and pre-pozzed Japan, generally we are refering to modern Japan vs second half 20th century Japan. Yes, Japan was occupied and westernised in many ways, but actual foreigners were rare in Japan until recently. Tourism has exploded in Japan and migration to Japan is also sharpely on the rise, both from westerners but also Indians and Africans. Japan has absolutely not been on the normies radar as a place to go until the last ten to fifteen years. There was a time you could go and experience that real Japanese energy and being a foreigner was like being an alien, now you will see whites and random brown people all over Tokyo.

I have been to China this year and i disagree, reason why Japan is so popular it's because the nightlife, China nightlife is trash only Shanghai will attract people the rest of China will remain a niche for Chinaboos, i have travelled to a bunch of Chinese cities and there's only westerners in Beijing and Shanghai rest you may encounter a couple of indian or african students not much else
Korea is probably taking the spotlight sadly for me, i travel there often and every year there's more foreigners

The thing that really gets to me is they actually hate everything about Japan when you get down to it. I never understood wanting to move to Japan. Sure it's a nice country but you do have to be Japanese to really experience it's best aspects.
