This American Christian family from Texas moved to Russia because of their values. The husband joined the army to help "repair & weld" for fast citizenship. He's now being sent to the front lines just after 2 weeks of training, and only 4 months in Russia.
They believed because he had welding/construction skills he’d end up in a fairly safe support position, or even a “journalism” position where he’d report on the war, and were shocked when he was sent to the front. He’s currently being trained, but since they’re only giving instructions in Russian, he doesn’t understand and feels unprepared for combat. He’s also asking her for money because the army took the cash they gave him to pay for his own supplies and she can’t send him any because the army hasn’t sent them a paycheck yet even though it’s been a month. So they’re currently broke but are “petitioning” local politicians to get something done. She's tired and sad a lot and she’s also a recovering alcoholic who lost her gall bladder to her drinking and is about to fall off the wagon.
