About helping out the abused minors, it's impossible. To contain the domestic problem into their homes domestically is the major policy of Japanese government. Japanese don't have philosophy to value the life and dignity of children. Even if they make a law to isolate abused children from their parents, the government wouldn't be able to handle the situation.

I know Japan and East-Asia in general values the wellness of society at the expense of the individual but children are the future of the nation and if they are not taken care of, the whole nation will suffer in the long run. I think Chinese care about children a lot more than we do. A Japanese university teacher who has taught in both China and Japan said that Chinese parents give their entire resources to their kids hoping the kids will success, and some of them even commit suicide for not becoming the burdens for the kids(after they graduated the universities and got jobs), while Japanese parents often steal the scholarships and use it for gambles, paying debts, or paying the living expenses, making the kids unable to attend or graduate the universities. Japanese rather tend to mistreat or abuse them, without hesitation.

i need help
on thursday i will be leaving for an exchange program for my college where i stay in japan for two weeks.
i'm staying with this girl named himeka and her family
part of the deal is i have to get america-themed gifts for all the people i stay with, but i don't know what to get. can i have suggestions of what a japanese person would want from america? it has to be small and light enough to bring on a plane, and if it's food it has to be food that won't spoil on a 14 hour plane ride. no drinks because you can't bring that on a plane.
please give me ideas.
