/extraflags/ - Travel Blogposting general
where's my NorthEast travellers at? edition

Previously on /flag/: >>212275541

>do (You) like going to places, taking photos and blogposting about it?
Welcome to /flag/ + /extraflags/, a lovely general for Extraflags users that combines your passions for geography, maps AND travel by using the Extraflags extension.

Threadly activities include travelposting, urbex, wilderness exploration, hunting for radioactive minerals, (extra)flag collecting, map filling, cycling across Europe, other autistic activities and overall funposting.

>What is Extraflags?
Extraflags is an open-source userscript that lets you choose regional flags, like states and provinces, to add to your already existing default country flag.
Turns out, it's very well suited for travel posting because you can flex with the ultrarare flags you're travelling to (rather than using it as a tripcode for posting in other threads)

Instructions and video guides for installing Extraflags can be found here: https://flagtism.gitlab.io/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/
Requests to add or change flags can be made here: https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues

my life is a bitch and i swear to god i was born unlucky and retarded
what would you choose? these are the only two options

>BUY an apartment in a dying out ass town somewhere up north (Nikel and Vorkuta are the only okayish options) where it's still snowing in early june and the warmest summer day is 15c, but i get some extra neetbux that way i would never have to work (i hate cold)
or
>RENT an apartment in virtually any place and invest the rest of the money that way it's gonna cover almost all of my rent, but i would have to work at least partially to make the ends meet (i hate working)

can you find a cheap rent in a small town or rural area but in the south/not arctic latitude? There's plenty of dying towns in the Ponto-Caspic steppe or the far East, which might be better to live in than fucking Norilsk

also do you have any relatives that could you leave you inheritance? That's how i will earn up to 5000$ a year to do absolutely nothing

Probably not. Shit like Norilsk and Nikel and Vorkuta belong to Russia's Far North, a designate region where people receive more government gibs, due to the harsh climate and lower life expectancy.

That being said, good Lord I wouldn't want to live there.

if im gonna be renting i am able to afford any place besides Moscow and Saint Petersburg
so i dont have to look for a dying town to rent in, i can afford any major city besides these two
what im talking about is buying a home there and Nikel and Vorkuta are the only options where i was able to find a furnished not rundown apps for less than $7k
>also do you have any relatives that could you leave you inheritance?
where do you think i got the money lmao
long story short i own 1/2 of the place i live in and so my retarded mother wants to sell the apartment and so im left with just a little more than $15k (still $3k in debt tho)

if that's not possible anywhere not arctic, god that's a hard choice. I could live in something like Inta because i love the cold/snow and it's close to some mountains, but you are not me so knowing you preferences, i would try to stay there temporarily first for a while and then deciding

The trial is in october apparently, if that or the renting don't go well for some reason i would have to graduate first and then work for at least a few months, and that would take too much

then other people that like collecting flags will save them and fill maps with them, maybe you will see Palau collection maps around if your do your duties

i always wanted to do this, Kiribati is in my top 10 favourite countries in the world unironically

feels god man, despite the numerous shitty photos of "flags" that took me one hour to fix

btw, OSM has all the local councils of Kiribati plus two national parks (Phoenix Islands Protected Area and Southern Line Islands Marine Protected Area) that are equivalent to administrative divisions, being unincorporated areas. i will now upload the kml

It really is. We moved here two years ago, and it was a bit difficult for me to get used to it. I prefer big cities because of the social opportunities, so sometimes I feel like I’m in exile.

That said, the weather, the nature, swimming, local markets, our garden, and even the constant yard work are all quite enjoyable. I just don’t want to rot here 24/7 because my current life is suitable for retirees, and I fucking hate that. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be moving soon anyway.

Nauru is fully flagged (all 14 districts). Even if it wasn’t, we’d research and add them anyway. I’m still kinda new to flag research, but I’ve already helped with five countries.

That said, if there are any countries or extraflags you haven’t posted yet, you can use proxies as Ovodda mentioned. (>>212674935) So once you're back in ’Straya, you can post the missing ones. For example, you probably flew to Tuvalu from Fiji, right?

Fuck me flights are not cheap in this part of the world. Anywhere you go the schedule is one flight a week and costs like 1,000 AUD in economy because whenever airline flies the route probably has a monopoly and can charge whatever they want for it.

>there were a few spelling mistakes like Karaisali instead of Karaisalı
For the official 1401 municipalities, I used the Interior Ministry list to have the most up-to-date list, which sometimes fucked up because the list had all capital letters. Which can be confusing because we have capital İ and lowercase ı, which don't exist in English. The crwflags mostly had the correct pronunciation, so I copied and pasted from there.

I didn't notice Karaisalı/Karaisali because both sound like actual words that can exist. Karaisalı would literally translate into "The one from the black Jesus," but I am sure that's not where the name comes from lol.

>Elazığ instead of Elâzığ
Current usage is Elazığ, but it doesn't matter too much. If you're curious, the "â" is pronounced longer than regular "a" in order to reduce confusion.
Example: kâr (profit) vs kar (snow)

>the images were overral a pretty easy processing
I'm really glad to hear that. I was worried it might take a lot of effort.

Tell your friend that I have no idea what Omnichan means, and he should be able to afford a laptop if he earns money with the glorious Swiss Francs.
Jokes aside, you should also install extraflags

>Current usage is Elazığ
uuuh OSM had Elâzığ so i thought that was the proper spelling. is the ^ supposed to be dropped now? on which vowels does it occur? i can easily fix that btw

The TDK (Turkish Language Association), which standardizes spellings and stuff, uses the version without the ^

Both the governor and the municipality also use it without the ^. I know â looks exotic, so it's up to you if you want to change it.

>on which vowels does it occur?
Sometimes ı in old Ottoman words, u very rarely.

But in Kurdish, they use it on e and o. (Btw, Cizre logo has two versions, one with Turkish+Kurdish and one with only Turkish, obviously I picked the one that has two languages because that looks much cooler)

The same reason why you post without extraflags.

By the way, I think it's very interesting how some US territories have local political parties.

Northern Mariana Islanders can't even vote in elections so I really don't see the point in a Republican Party. Besides U.S Territories are basically their own country

Territories participate in the presidential nomination process though, also they also send members to the House of Representatives, so it makes sense that their local politics are aligned with the U.S. ones.

I feel U.S Territories are better off being territories. If they become states they might have their culture changed massively. If they are countries they might become failed countries and might have other countries might be taking advantage of them.
