Electricity is about 11 US cents per kilowatt-hour even in nuclear-powered northern Illinois, even less in some parts of Texas, though not by much. From what I remember it's 3X that rate in Germany. i''ve had the thermostat set to 70F (21C) for weeks, since the highs have been in the mid 90s. As I've mentioned before on this board, climate control setups in the Midwest tend to be over-engineered by almost twice--though when it comes to the grid the long-term margins are a lot more expertly calculated.

Hi.
Modern units do not rely on you turning them on or off, or setting a timer.
Modern units let you set a target temperature and they run or don't run based on that because they have a thermometer.
You do not need to worry about freezing to death from your air con you just set a temperature and that is literally it.
