When I went to Montenegro (I was a broke student, so I only had one night to spend), I went to Podgorica because I assumed that since it's the capital, they'd have the coolest stuff there. Here's what the mines out 'Topside' area looks like. They're still mining it but it has made most of the island infertile and uninhabitable. Now it's used for the prisoners and refugees Australia is too full for, as well as a rubbish dump

I think this part of the island is rather pleasant. It's opposite the biggest private supermarket on the island. I feel like I've come just before a shipment is due because all the stores are pretty empty. You can also see the fringing reef which goes all the way around the island and is one of the problems with the place. Can't swim in the ocean without walking 10 meters through shallow corals, ships can't come close so it's a terrible place for cruise ships to come, and they have to dredge this massive port or build giant cantilevers for ships to come any where near the place to bring stuff on and off the island.

I flew. Air Nauru is pretty decent and flies from Brisbane almost daily

A kiwi guy put me on to this new Chinese place run out of a shipping container next to the civic centre, only Sichuan food on the island. Pretty good, none of the staff speak English so they're talking through wechat translation to the Nauruan boys and getting confused because they only thing they're ordering is bowls of rice. There's some street fighter machines in the corner which would be cool if they were turned on.

But I had to get a visa to get into Nauru and there were only two other obviously non-Pacific people on the plane, whereas Tuvalu I saw two flights come in and each of them had an obnoxious YouTube blogger with the stupid handheld camera shooting their vlog as they were getting off the plane, so I think it might be here. In fact i pretty much learned by memory the geography of every single mountain valley of northern Italy (expecially within a 200 km radius of milan) because i spend so much time on google maps. I can't go to the mountains anymore without recognizing the valley or the massif
