People actually think there's a fixed amount of jobs that get distributed to people, and an immigrant having a job means one less job for an American, but that isn't how the economy works.

Why does everyone see themself as a worker solely and not a consumer?

I can provide a much better explanation: there's a lot of experienced while collar workers in the USA. That's why white collar hiring for new grads is still relatively tough while percentage of people employed in white collar sector has not dropped and overall unemployment is low
