Iโ€™ve only been to Porto, Lisbon, and one of the big cities I canโ€™t remember the name of. It was alright I guess. Outside of Lisbon everywhere felt like a totally average European city. Lisbon is a cool city, but itโ€™s totally taken over by tourism (and Indians) and actually living there seems impossible unless youโ€™re very wealthy.

>Seems like Spain but with less cultural enrichment.
Saars galore, hues aplenty and I'll correctly guess there's only been more immigration from Cabo Verde, Angola and Mozambique in the last decade.

Thanks. I didnโ€™t want to rant about this too much but I was blown away by how many Indians there were in Lisbon. Do they run the tourism business there or something? Every tour was being given by an Indian man, and every stop along the tour had hordes of Indians selling trinkets. There were so many Indian restaurants too. It was honestly a relief when a gypsy woman tried to scam be into buying a bracelet by putting it on my arm, I assumed they had all been pushed out by the Indians.

What's the average salary there more or less? I'm currently looking at the average rent prices of a city like Porto and I'm fucking tripping. Everything is around 1300 euros on average, same with others like Braga. We have it bad here but that is surreal, I doubt most portuguese can afford that. My middle sized northern city is 900 euros on average for comparison and our salaries must be at least a bit higher

Only Lisbon from my experience. But you have no idea. Itโ€™s like what /int/ thinks Canada is like.

>What's the average salary there more or less?
minimum wage is 800 euros
if you actually have any useful skills you'll earn around 1200 euros, anyone making more than that is probably working for the government or got that job through "a friend of a friend"

Those are not meant for locals, they're meant for remote workers from the US, for them those prices are cheap as fuck compared to what they would pay in California, the rich parts of downtown Lisbon are full American remote workers

Lisbon suburbs are all africans. Like riding a train to Sintra was a topnotch Cape town experience.
Touristy areas like Lisbon downtown or Algarve resorts are all pajeets

Because your thread seems genuine I'll give you a qrd:

Housing market: Completely fucked and by far this country's biggest issue, the average person just cannot afford to buy a house in the big cities and immediate suburbs. Of course you could always fuck off to the interior of the country, but unless you can secure a good job there or work remotely, it's not really interesting for people, especially younger people. This problem is further exacerbated by the fact this country has become really popular as a destination for Americans to run away from Trump or for people to retire in general, added to the fact we have/used to have favorable tax laws regarding digital nomads, cryptobros and the like. Just last week Nicole Kidman moved here, adding to the list of escapee Californians living here. So yes we are full

Relatively low salaries: The average wage is around the 1500 euro mark, although it depends from district to district, with Lisbon and Porto being higher than the national average. You used to be able to stretch your money a lot more here than the average European country but as of recently because of the wars, pandemics, and the explosion of the housing market our overall purchasing power has not risen that much, even if the economy isn't as bad as it was and our wages have increased

Near open borders: We used to have a retarded government that neglected immigration and allowed shit like people on tourist visas to stay in the country if they found work or something like that, leading to the mass entry of initially Brazilians and other ex-colonials but soon also jeets and other Hindustanis and more nefariously, Jews who claimed they are descendants of the old Sephardic Jews that were kicked out 500 years ago, including Russian jews trying to escape their dictator country. Luckily this is one of the things the current government has been working to solve or mitigate, mainly because jeet immigration has singlehandely caused a country that despised the far right because of muh Salazar to the far right now being the second biggest political force in Portugal and the left in general having the worst elections of the last 30 years

Unending tourism: Walking around the streets of Lisbon will very quickly make you realize how almost half of everyone you see is a tourist, of course Portugal has always been a touristic country but the sheer amount of people clogging everything, all the time is too much in the high seasons, and the amount of tourism has only increased in the last few years. But its not just Lisbon, Algarve for instance, probably suffers the most with bad tourists because places like Albufeira and Lagos are filled with drunken brits and other euros who can't control themselves. It's a country of 10 million or so people, but we get over 30 million foreigners every year, and it can be hard to scale and accommodate so many people. One of the current biggest infrastructural projects in Portugal is a new airport because of this
