The political establishment in this country has always hated video games and seen them as "dangerous" because they allow escapism and potentially promote "problematic" ideas. And no party holds this view more strongly than Labour.
This government would gladly destroy the video game industry because they see it as an obstacle in the way of their goal of establishing total draconian control over the thoughts and lives of every British citizen.
Cynically, I'd also point out that the Labour government has many monetary ties with big tech companies like Meta, Google, Netflix etc, all of whom have little-to-no involvement in gaming. If they severely restrict or ban major video games, it means people are forced to spend more time scrolling Facebook or consuming Youtube/Netflix slop for entertainment.
