Those who survived communism were those who were best-adjusted to that so obviously since they got used to living in the retarded system, knew their ways how to deal with problems, they might have not felt its disadvantages as much.

I've stopped listening to disinformation clichés and started judging the person/character saying such affirmations, how much they profited (so to speak) under the regime, in what ways, capacity, magnitude etc.
Most often than not, these are made by ex-party members (usually nomenklatura), ex-militaristic types, ex-secret police torturers, ex-willing informants to the secret police, and so on.
