How can I quickly tell the difference between Chinese, Korean and Japanese people?

My chemistry teacher in high school once told us that his father said that to tell the difference between the chinese and japanese in ww2 they would make them take of their shoes to look at their feet. I have no idea what the distinguishing features are, though.

Korean = most east asian looking
Chinese = many central and south chinese are part SEA, and due to internal migrations, some northern ones too, so overall they look anywhere from a korean to a vietnamese/hmong

This is sort of what I meant. Manchus push into Gogureyo, the Gogureyo people push into the southern peninsula kingdoms like Gaya and Silla. From there some people flee into Japan where they intermarry with the previous Manchu/Ainu people, but some people remain and marry with Gogureyo people and that's why the genetic link remains.

Just to clarify, Gogureyo is a Kingdom, its not an ethnicity. Gaya and Silla were created well after the Yayoi migration started.

The Korean peninsula was already well established by the time the Yayoi period and migration to Japan began. Its not like the people living in southern part of the peninsula were free ranging nobodies, they were Koreans living in the Jin state of Korea. They were all Korean.

The Koreans who left to Japan, starting with the Yayoi and through the Kofun periods, left because Korea was going through political instabilities as the Proto-Three Kingdoms period of Korea started and those three parties fighting for power over the peninsula.

The Jin were basically powerless so they were easy pickings by the more powerful Korean kingdoms thus they were eventually broken up and formed other smaller kingdoms before power structure settled down and formed Baekje, Silla, Ye, etc. This is why they fled to Japan during this period as they were getting caught up in a power grab. The Jin has a lot of artifiacts that were known to be found in Japan showing their migration from Korea to Japan.

The best way to tell is to look at tons of faces to find common features, and then in the age of plastic surgery and filters to look at the name, the fashion, the language, the particular style of esl, the food, or just take a fucking guess.

I can guess with near perfect accuracy which is what and which is none of the above as long as it's not meant to fool me with trickery.
