i visited salt lake city for the first time in my life
rode the train there by myself and didnt have to coordinate with anyone bout no dates
i just ate at the 7-11 and put food in the fridge
i made my way out to salt lake and to that monument park and i could come and go whenever i wanted
i could stay in the hotel when i wanted
i had a great time

I like to travel, but sometimes good travel companions are unavailable.
Then it's better to travel alone, than to travel with those that are always complaining.
I wouldn't mind company, but bad company is worse than alone.

I’m not actually single, but I lived until recently in the middle of Europe, where I used to take short international trips by myself (long weekends, 2-5 days) at least a few times per year. And when I was last living in the US, I took one longer solo trip (a little over three weeks), but met up with my wife at the end of it for two weeks of travel together.

Solo travel can be really enjoyable if you like your own company and enjoy seeing new places. I’m an introvert; I socialize well and sometimes enjoy it, but also find it taxing. I find spending a few days alone, fully in charge of everything I see or do, without any need to accommodate anybody else’s interests, refreshing and fun.

I also used to travel for business, and would stick a few vacation days onto my business trips for some solo sightseeing as often as I could get away with. I would spend most of those trips in back-to-back meetings, talking with people all day, so just being alone for a day or two at the end, not talking to anyone, was a relief. I suspect that some of the single men you and others have seen around the world are probably doing the same thing.

I do this but go to hiking locations and stay in a tent so it's not weird, being out in the mountain is all about being away from other people

I didn't really give a shit about the food or hotels, that was just done out of necessity.
Travelling alone is fun because I get to wander aimlessly for hours and then sleep wherever's convenient.
Check out whatever I want without consideration for what other people may want to do, etc.
Travelling with friends is fun too, but solo is freeing.

I’ve never noticed this, and I’ve been to 70-something countries (although not always alone). Is it a camouflaged version of the “no additional guests” policies that some hotels use to discourage men from bringing in hookers? Or maybe something seen at those weird, sexified ‘couples’ resorts’, to ensure that the swingers and exhibitionists don’t end up with too big a gender imbalance?

Anyway, if this is a real thing, stay at a normal hotel instead.

Went to a hostel in lisbon and made 3 friends i got drunk with, and had fun every night

Went to a hostel in greece and made 2 female friends, with one of them, she ran the bar, i was playing cards most nights.

Hiking on the camino i was getting to know people every day and was invited for visits to Mexico and the USA. It was actually too much for me, the Camino is overpopulated.

I also had some travels where i felt like a ghost, not finding anyone to interact with, but that makes for an interesting time too. You have to redefine your relationship with reality and curb your expectations, rather invite the unexpected and roll with whats happening. Its cool travelling around, every country is like its own little world (as long as you avoid the globohomo spots)

In Bilbao in the Hostel there was this old weird dude who came into the room at 3 AM ranting about niggers, there was a black colombian dude sleeping there too. That guy felt crazy. But the next night even later, the dude and the black guy entered the dorm together, drunk as hell, and where talking to each other like they were brothers. It was funny as fuck to me. Thats life, thats travelling.
