/extraflags/ - Travel Blogposting general
Kyrgyzstan edition (and a bunch of others)

Previously on /flag/: >>213597116

>do (You) like going to places, taking photos and blogposting about it?
Welcome to /flag/ + /extraflags/, a lovely general for Extraflags users that combines your passions for geography, maps AND travel by using the Extraflags extension.

Threadly activities include travelposting, urbex, wilderness exploration, hunting for radioactive minerals, (extra)flag collecting, map filling, cycling across Europe, other autistic activities and overall funposting.

>What is Extraflags?
Extraflags is an open-source browser userscript that lets you choose regional flags, like states and provinces, to add to your already existing default country flag.
Turns out, it's very well suited for travel posting because you can flex with the ultrarare flags you're travelling to (rather than using it as a tripcode for posting in other threads)

Instructions and video guides for installing Extraflags can be found here: https://flagtism.gitlab.io/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/
Requests to add or change flags can be made here: https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues

people have been filling maps since the dawn of time on /int/, it's called flag collecting. you can't possibly be new to that

initially it was for country flags, then extraflags came and people started collecting regional flags with deeper and deeper detail. there's no particular reason behind it, it's simply that some people like collecting flags. if you feel the same too, you can start i guess

i inherited a flag collection that has been started since almost the beginning and for this reason, i don't suggest anybody new to start collecting very low level flags because your collection would just be a more incomplete version of mine, and a lot of work . collecting bigger regionals like 1st or 2nd levels makes more sense, because those often get reposted again unlike small municipalities

the main reason i'm here is actually not collecting flags nor filling maps, but nobody else does it my precision, rules and criteria (obviously) so i do it. otherwise i wouldn't
the fact is, without map filling there wouldn't be flag collecting, and without flag collecting there wouldn't be flag dumping. flag dumping is my favourite way by far to blogpost about my trips, travelling is my life so without 4chan flag collecting i wouldn't be able to talk about my trips and sharing my travel pics
map filling makes travelling so much more fun, dumping is like your reward for having successfully done the trip. the maps getting filled with all the municipalities me and my fellow flagtists took is very rewarding. but again you don't have to do that yourself

tldr; you don't have to collect or fill anything, those are already covered by the /flag/ elite. you just have to have fun and blogpost about it (following /flag/ rules of course :^)

Saw, from inside the building, a woman break the handlebar on my bike when she was struggling to fit her bike on the rack. Went outside to leave with my bike. She said, "Oh, thank goodness, it's so hard to fit more than 2 bikes here". It's just a handlebar but she could have said something. I ignored it because I thought it would be easy to twist back on. It really isn't.

the only other similar case is Bokhtar (Kurgonteppa), every other ind. city is on OSM. i encountered this problem last year when i fully flagged
GADM has the level 3 (jamoat, basically municipalities) for Tajikistan, which don't have flags. the indipendent cities are both districts and jamoats if you think about it so i'd say the most correct borders are the jamoat borders of Khorug and Bokhtar

I sometimes don't look a place up before I go on purpose (not if I'm staying there for a short time, then I know exactly what I wanna see). When I recently went to Plovdiv, I didn't research the city. But I had a whole week to explore it, which made it fun. I had no idea it was the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe before I went there.
Anonymous Italy No.214336907
for the standards: if you are a regular here you can talk about anything you want, and that includes travel suggestion, even if really retarded ones
but if you are a flaglet? lolno fuck off back to /int/. the travel blogposting general is for people that already know how to travel and want to share it, not for clueless noobs that most likely don't have the IQ to figure out which municipalities are crossed by the railway (that's a fundamental flaw that destroys already anything we could have built before)

Researching places before travelling is so weird. People reading Tripadvisor reviews on every thing, planning all their days, watching vlogs and reading tourism sites They've already seen the destination before even arriving. Kills the sense of adventure. Best travel I've ever done is getting a one way ticket, a few suggestions from people who've been there, and maybe an old book about the country (I read about Napoleon and Dumas before going to France). You just need some points, not guides. People these days get spoonfed their whole journey - hotel, restaurant, souvenir shop, hotel, back home. Booooring.
