For the last 3 years I've been dealing in boring stocks. Those index funds that get you 10-12% per year and you never look at and are managed on my behalf for a small fee.
Only very recently have I dived into more risque individual stocks and from what I can tell they're based on
1. Earnings Reports (Quarterly - Walmart's will be tomorrow, Target's was today, Nvidia's will be next week)
2. General news around the company (regulations, new investor, etc)
3. Whatever the fed says

Issue is the Fed had literally negative news today and all the tech stocks reacted positively (after dipping at the start of the day) so I'm fucking confused.

Main advice I get is don't be a day trader. One of those autisits that checks your phone every 10 minutes.
I give that advice but I do not follow it.

Jerome Powell is supposed to have negative news on Friday which SHOULD create a market panic but a mini version of that ought to have happened today which never transpired.

Also interesting that after Target's MASSIVE drop at market open (9-10%), it actually went up by 5% gradually throughout the rest of the day - despite a horrific earnings report and their 11 year CEO stepping down.

You're describing the performance of a "stock" specifically. A stock has its value derived from a company in the real world, and it goes down when bad things happen to it. There are financial assets that aren't stocks.

You can basically separate market analysis into "fundamental analysis" that analyzes the company and "technical analysis" that analyzes price movements themselves.

There are a thousand "tools" called indicators out there that are literally just a basic equation that give you a green light on the dashboard when it's good to proceed.

Come up with a strategy and then follow it. Probably just one that someone else came up with.
Ideally algorithmically so a computer does it all for you objectively and quicker than you could hope to clicking buttons.
If it makes money more often than it loses money then you have a money printing machine.
