the surgeons who perform lasik never get lasik themselves. ever think about that?
the actual professionals that know the most about this procedure don't trust it enough to get it done.
there's a new procedure where a small lens is implanted into your eye that has far better results. if you are interested in lasik I would recommend that instead.

Where did you learn that? That's not how it's supposed to work. As you get older your eyesight will naturally degrade, but thats usually for close vision. You shouldn't have to get it again for myopia and at most you should get a touch up if they under corrected your vision.

PRK I'm pretty sure will have the longest recovery time and the dryest eyes. I'm not sure what the upside is for that over the newer Lasik techniques. My dad got PRK and he had it rough for about a week. With Lasik you can see perfectly fine right after the operation but you won't want to open your eyes for about 2-3 days due to tearing up and general light sensitivity.
Either way, your optometrist should be the one explaining this stuff to you.

I'm not opposed to laser eye surgery but I am very curious to try the methods described on endmyopia. Yes it seems boring and variable, but you are only spending a little money on cheap glasses with reduced lens. Apparently you can improve something like 1 diopter in 3 months, but the rate of progress slows after that. Also, if I was to get surgery I would probably get SMILE it seems somewhat superior to lasik. Has anyone here tried the Jake Steiner stuff?

I wouldn't recommend it. Wore glasses most of my life, which I didn't mind, but decided to just get it done for whatever reason. Did enough research I thought, read the studies and papers, figured the odds of any of the side effects affecting me where low enough, the odds were on my side. All the doctors said you're a great candidate too.
I'm 5+ years out, still have dry eye that I put in drops for every day, have pretty bad halos and glare, especially at night around light sources like headlights, when I didn't have any before, and one of my eyes was already not 20/20 like a year after the procedure. That's not to say it's debilitating or anything, the brain can adapt to a lot, and I'm fine, can drive at night as well, no issues. Still don't need glasses. But these are all side effects I didn't have before, and would trade wearing glasses again to get rid off.
I won't say there are no benefits, you don't have to worry about them getting dirty, or rained on, moving around while you're exercising, etc. Basically the reasons I initially decided to get it done. But overall, if I could go back, I wouldn't get it done. The places that try and sell Lasik, they are very fixated on 20/20, like that's the only thing that matters in terms of vision. But there are a lot of other factors that go into vision holistically, like dry eye, artifacts like halos, etc., that they tend to just gloss over. I would try contacts or something first, if you haven't already.

I unironically considered it (my eyes are between -7 and -8D), so I looked into it, and holy fuck is it a fucking scam. I'm not a schizo who falls for /pol/ conspiracy theories, but this unironically feels like one. I would never do this to myself, unless it was actually medically justified (i.e. my eyes had some shit that can't be fixed without surgery). Needing glasses doesn't count as being medically justified, basically everybody will need glasses at one point.
I would never take the chance of potential side effects which would absolutely make my life worse. I find it unbelievable turbo normies are ok with them just so they don't have to wear glasses or fucking contacts which look the same as not wearing anything.

What were you doing in your childhood? There are other ways to develop myopia, if the eyes don't get enough daylight and you're inside in the dark a lot or something like that. Reading books all day might also do it.

Almost no job involving physical extremities (pilot, mariner, contact sports) allow you to have had lasik. The flap created during the surgery is an unnecessary risk for those activities. Lasik is poor man's prk. It's a lot of corner cutting to make it cheaper and easier to mass perform to peasants.

Fishing, following my grandpa around hunting, mushroom picking with my grandma, playing knight in the garden etc. Grew up spending most of my time with my grandparents since mom and dad was working overseas a lot.
I didn't get my first pc until I was 17. And back then I didn't really get it and barely used it.
I've read the Lord Of The Rings and Jurassic Park books in my life and that's about it.

Myopia started to proliferate during the industrial age. It isn't screens, it's the lifestyle that encourages indoor time. Norbro is right. It's just extensive eye strain in general that causes myopia, whether that be reading or screenmaxxing.

Lasik is generally accepted now even for pilots, theres just a longer waiting period for healing before you can go back to work than with PRK.

outdated information, lasik is allowed for pilots now
also prk is cheaper and older than lasik
only difference is lasik creates a flap in your eye that supposedly can come off while prk removes flap completly and then regrows after operation, thats why prk recovery lasts longer

You're forgetting the fact that even though living expenses are a thing you can just send a portion of your savings back to your home country and have someone you trust like a brother or cousin buy shit like properties and such which would be laughably cheap for you because of the currency difference, so you have a tidy nest egg when/if you decide to Go Back Mehmetβ’ that you can use to become a slumlord and milk people for rent. Wouldn't have to work a day in your life after retirement this way. Think of it like the morally bankrupt thirdie's version of social security.

If you also factor in thirdie shitholes' tendency to go into death spirals of hyperinflation like my dear country where the EGP has inflated by 520% in 10 years (compared to USD), every property or asset you get through this method of fucking with currencies just continually appreciates in value (local value -- not international) without you having to invest literally anything in the property beyond just buying it. Plus all of our nations are still growing in population and economy so again, things will only get more expensive. I'm sure this could be gamed even further by someone who's brighter/better at economics than me but it's already a good enough strategy even with a sandnigger's IQ like mine.

I have the impression that side effects of eye correction surgery are much more common than the people who make money from it want to admit and most people who had it performed downplay them to save face and not look at retards who gambled their slight inconvenience of wearing glasses to suffering from dry eyes 20+ years after the surgery or being unable to safely operate a vehicle at night lol
