Their off-brand products manage to better than Rewe most of the times.
Like pickles, Lidl pickles are actually okay, while Rewe have a metallic taste to them.
Or like kettle chips, their formula is just slightly better than Rewes kettle chips.
I don't know, I feel like Rewe as a store is more enticing, especially from the color scheme, and design of it, and maybe marketing, but product quality is where Lidl is just slightly ahead.

No, local chains are generally small and serve only the local community. they make a lot of money being the only store in smaller towns or around large housing projects. They range from being okay-ish to outright expensive and bad. Aldi and Lidl is generally the cheapest, Interspar has better selection and their stores look more fancy but they are brutally expensive. There is Tesco and Auchan, a few Metros, they used to be a lot more relevant before Lidl and Aldi came. Also Penny which is usually stereotyped as a retirement peoples store for some reason. They are kind of like Aldi/Lidl but worse. And basically that is it. There are not that many stores here

Fun fact: at the time, I was told by store employees that they took them out because they "couldn't get spare parts anymore." But last week I was talking with a friend who works for Lidl America corporate and he said the real reason was there was some kind of TikTok challenge to put random stuff in the bread slicer and chop it up. So once again the answer to "Why doesn't America have (x)" is that we did, and it got ruined by niggers.
