Have you ever thought about how we, as active users of /int/, are likely closer culturally than you are to some old lady that lives down the street from you?

Distance doesn't matter anymore, geography no longer defines culture

people are sorted into their internet tribes, the places they choose to spend time online, and this is far more important of a distinction than almost any place of birth or offline activity you engage in

And I'm not saying you can't like her as a person, don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying you shouldn't prefer her in your community over some mexican zoomer that consumes the same media as you.

But culturally - the media you consume, the types of text and ideas you engage with everyday, these things are far more defined by your online experience than your physical community nowadays. everyone spends like an hour a day online at a minimum and it's that time where you are most engaged with cultural output so this can't really be helped.

Certo ma everyone experiences these things through the lens of their own cultural experience. Jokes mocking Muslims won't hit as hard for Americans since we don't have them nearly as much as Europeans. Same things about jokes with mexicans, Euros would t get them. Everything is seen through the lens of our irL cultures
