According to science, the Genji Monogatari was originally written in kana only. Do Japanese read the original version or are there, say, modern versions that incorporate kanji?

I tried to join one of those Japanese learner-English learner chatrooms and I forgot all of the vocab I had been studying and had to resort to N5 grammar to make basic points. All that time on Anki was a tremendous waste of time.

I'm on my late 20s and 13 years ago I was pretty much fluent in reading english, but writing/speaking? It was only after I decided to post on imageboards and online forums more frequently that I started to actually get somewhat decent at writing, and speaking took me until I had the need to speak every day due to my job.

I think a lot of people forget its generally hours spent, not days passed. To a certain extent days because there's only so much you can get into your head per day, but still. On days passed I'm doing alright, compared to hours spent I am pretty slow I think.
N3 is good enough to watch more cutie anime anyways so they could just stop studying and be happy with watching their seasonals.

Anki is for input with less lookups. Output comes from practicing output, but is it's definitely easier with a ton of input.
You do your anki reviews then immerse in Japanese. Since you are blaming anki specifically and not input only, how much do you immerse?

I am in the process making several hundred language learning lyric videos with full morpheme-level breakdowns as subtitles. I was originally doing this in korean but would be very happy to make more for japanese if there's interest.
