Commas and full stops in Japanese/Chinese are a recent innovation, originally text was written without any punctuation at all.
Then they started using 。,、but only for poetry. 。indicates a full stop, ,is a half rest, and 、is a short pause
In China they only started using punctuation consistently after 1920ish. Idk about Japanese, but I expect they weren't much earlier.

pretty good but when referring back to a noun like you did there, it's best to use regular personal pronouns, thus
>, weil der op ihn schlauerweise mit einem...
i think den isn't technically wrong there but semantically it means "that one" here, as if you meant to say "that specific thread over there"
it's weird to get used to using personal pronouns for regular nouns and even though i speak german, it also feels sort of strange in russian to me, but whatever, it's what must be done...

木 is a tree. 未 and 末 are also both trees.
未 is a tree with short branches on the top, it's not finished growing = not yet finished
末 has long branches, indicating it's completed or ended = complete, end
This is the origin of the meaning of the two characters, it shouldn't be that hard to remember

Arguably something like 复 and 夏 or 长 multi-reading characters are harder

What is your favorite book you've read in your TL and what's a book you'd like to read in the future, but maybe aren't ready for?

For German probably All Quiet on the Western Front is my favorite so far. In the future I'd like to read Magic Mountain by Mann, but still think that's a bit ambitious.

I've only read the first Harry Potter in french. Pretty ignorant of French lit so not really sure what I want to read in the future. Maybe the Plague by Camus.

being serious, just talk to more Chinese people, and pay attention to how they speak. Also get someone who ruthlessly criticises your pronunciation - most teachers won't point out your mistakes because they think if they can understand it then it's good enough.

I did the massive input ajatt (just turn the tv on and leave it on) thing and didn't find it to be very useful either. Input needs to be comprehensible in some way or another (whether graded/learner material or comprehensible via looking up words). Spam native input is not helpful unless you're already at a high level. It's a very inefficient use of time. If what you're hearing is not being understood you're not making progress at any meaningful pace.

He tries to learn french with input only. Because it's 2016 he doesn't use CI but shows for natives from the start. After 1300 hours of input plus a single week of output and reading training he can almost pass the B1 exam.
After a few more months of training, not limited to input only, he passes B2.
I think this is still a big win for input-only methods, if it hadn't been for wasting a ton of hours on incomprehensible input and the difficult orthography of french he could have passed B2.

for example i can put on a kdrama (my korean is cheeks) and just by making assumptions/guesses about what theyre saying (not entirely conscious/deliberately) i can follow the story and even catch certain foreshadowing or whatever. there is a lot to take away from entertainment besides the literal words theyre saying.

From Worst to Best. (1/2)
>French
No longer a country that supports it, if you in France you should learn Arabic
>German
While gives you access to a large population, Germany ranks high in global English proficiency. Most of the time you can just speak English to a German. Learning German would just be for the challenge/ if you want to live in Germany, but at any point you can switch to English and get by
>Russian
Get access to 145 million people who speak it. Also, most Russians dont speak English fluently / at all. So you cant cheat with just speaking English. Russian is a pretty cool sounding language and the women are the most beautiful white women in the world. But unless you got personal reasons, I cant think of too many entertainment nor job related reasons to know it. They do have a decent presence online in modeling and fashion world though.
>Spanish
Objectivity the 2nd most useful on this list to know. Get access to a crap ton people, and probably entertainment. But Im ranking it low because I have zero interest. Entertainment wise and communication wise, I rather get by with English around the Spanish. Job wise, probably best choice if you live in America.

>Chinese
Entertainment wise, China has mostly produced slop, but the future looks bright. 1.41 BILLION native speakers. They are bound to excel in film, video games, and other entertainment. But I rank it the lowest of the Asian languages because it’s theoretical. We havent seen that explosive entertainment value yet. But if you want to future proof yourself, this is the language to go with. If your goal is an Asian gf, this gets you access to the biggest pool by far. Also the smartest decision business wise, beats even Spanish.
>Korean
Get access to the best music industry, Kpop. All all the extra media that goes with it. Get access to high quality K-Dramas which is a whole new world of entertainment. However, South Korea is pretty tiny. Only 51 million native speakers. Business wise its decent, South Korea has Samsung, in some ways has Japan beat in business. But the country is small and rapidly decreasing (literally worst fertility rate on Earth right now, 0.75 babies per woman. Also if you dont care for Kpop and K-Drama, outta luck entertainment wise.

>Japan
Japan number one since it has the richest culture and history. While Korea has it beat music wise and probably film wise, Japan still has a respectable catalog that dates back way further than Korea (Korea’s history ends around the 80s since Japan tried to conquer them and erased a lot of history).

There is video games, manga, film, TV, endless niche interests, fantastic place to travel to, 2.5x size of Korea’s population, etc. there is bound to be some entertainment value you get from knowing Japanese. Japan is the good middle ground inbetween China and Korea. China is huge but not as good culture, Korea has some better culture but in smaller quantity. Japan you get the medium size country and endless culture to explore. But they are also dookie fertility wise. Will probably be fine for our lifetime but maybe not the best for future proofing. But for right now, there is plenty of reason to know it, and endless things to go back in time with Japan media wise.

But I would say from worst to best

>Korean
Popular media but it seems (at least to me) mostly limited to female-centric interests like pop music and fashion. Basically an inferior Japanese.

>German
Most Germans already speak English and didn't spread their language very far due to lack of colonies. Only reasons to learn are if you're a thirdie moving to Germany or if you like their history/literature. They are outpaced by other languages when it comes to media

>Russian
Unlocks Russia + some of eastern Europe and central Asia. One of most common languages on internet. I hear they have great novels and decent media.

>Chinese
Rising power who is starting to produce lots of media and useful for international business, but probably not that useful outside of Asia even when they reach their peak.

>French
Most international language besides English and also for traveling. Former lingua franca and probably the most useful language for if you get transported back to medieval or early modern Europe. Lots of media. Makes you seem more refined to normies and makes you a better English speaker

>Spanish
Safest choice. Unlocks most of LATAM. Lots of media. Easy for English speakers. Most useful in USA. Maybe some of LATAM will finally stop being a shithole.

>Japanese
SSS+ tier media. Lots of games, songs, anime, manga, etc. 3rd or 4th largest economy. Makes Chinese easier.

Are you interested in them because you plan on living there or just because of media? If its for living there, German seems like the obviously best choice. If its the media, compare your interest in their media to their overall usefulness. Are you so interested in those minor languages that you don't mind the fact there is less media and they don't help as much with tourism? If you're gonna keep dabbling, you might as well focus on the big 3 (French, Spanish, or German) because they make dabbling with the other languages easier. If you need to learn the grammar and vocabulary of a romance/germanic language its better to do it with the most useful first.

Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish are also good languages for emigration. As for media, it's small things like the Norwegian dubbing of Hilda or Ongezellig and the meme-lity of the Dutch or ABBA. Small things. Plus, I have friends in Scandinavia, family in the Netherlands and Italy. And Germany doesn't have that much more media than the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Well, they do have more, but looking at the scale of this language, I was a bit disappointed. And Dutch sounds like I've always thought German should. I was learning German and I felt it was a waste of time because it would take ages before I could do anything professionally with it, and English is more helpful in the Netherlands and Scandinavia (imo Germans don't speak English much better than Poles). Try graded readers if you're a beginner.
https://anonfile.co/FkIt8dqfbhkSps8/file

If you're intermediate and looking to get into native-level content, find some young adult genre slop or books with straightforward prose translated in Spanish. For me that was "Ten little niggers" by Agatha Christie, it had an interesting premise that kept me reading while having very accessible language. Also, self-help slop tends to be pretty accessible, stuff like "Atomic Habits" etc. Basically, just find a book in English that seems interesting to you and has relatively simple prose. If it feels like a slog to read in English, it's going to be even worse in Spanish.

For western Europe, French and German are the most useful and best to learn. For the Americas, I would say Spanish is by far the best choice.

Russian for eastern Europe, some countries like Kazakhstan still use it, apparently.
