Is their language difficult? They subtitle their own language with furigana and as a spoken language it's far more simple than English, it's about as complicated as a SEA language. The only thing that stands out is kanji and not even Japanese can read those consistently (hence the furigana).

it is difficult if you wish to master it, anyone can pick up some japanese from anime

It's not used often. You almost never see it in text intended for young adults and older. When you see it, it's for very obscure kanji, doing word plays or giving extra information about that word.
See pic related. It says magic that kills demons and in the furigana it says something like zorutoraaku or some shit like that. It's not there to show the reading of the word. Just provides extra information and in this case in-universe name of the magic she's about to use

The book is Kyoukai no Kanata, there's no way light novels are intended for children. Unless you mean that the books without it are meant for people past college only. Great now you see my problem. Why include them at all if these are supposedly for teenagers? Maybe there's something weird going on with Mishima that makes him specifically difficult for adults to read, but basic kanji should require them in books intended for teenagers.

It's not that complicated. The grammar is very regular and easy to learn, there aren't any ridiculous consonant clusters and if they give you furigana it's trivial to know how to sound out what you're reading. You'll have to cram vocab, but that's true of every language. Having to learn the kanji along with the words themselves isn't that much more work, especially once you start noticing patterns in how they're read and what they mean. Pitch accent is also easy as shit if you're not literally tone deaf to the point of being unable to distinguish relative pitch intervals (usually 2 semitones)
