I just discovered americans can only understand doing something if they will be paid for it.

Like americans can't understand helping a random person on the street, or learning something like music composition or drawing if there's not a potential way to make money of it.

Things like compassion and art for art’s sake are gobbledygook compared to material conditions.

What about moderating imageboards without making money of it?

I was walking home from work the other day and after dodging the local armed shooter I saw an old lady struggling to cross a street with a broken crossing light
I asked if she needed help and she said yeah but she couldn't afford my $10 PIF
PIF is Paid Interaction Fee btw, you have to set your price once you turn 18

I don't do anything work-related if I'm not paid

like my job in training is like "go home and study x" and I'm like sure but in reality I'm going to throw the book down and play video games because if not studying that material makes me bad at the job then the workplace should have allotted paid time to have me do it
