it’s the ultimate meme visual novel — 95% of it is utter garbage, but people gaslight themselves into thinking it’s good because of the so-called “prose” and a climax that recontextualizes the whole story. all the heroines are trash despite showing potential during the common route, the entire first route even sidelines the main heroine thanks to the plot twist at the end of common. said plot twist basically makes everything you learned during the common route mostly pointless thus the entire first route is really just there to establish the actual setting, so it ends up being nothing but one info dump after another. i’m not exaggerating when i say there’s virtually no normal dialogue in futami’s route, aside from one scene where the protagonist urinates on a side heroine or something, so it just feels awful to read for the most part. the actual chuuni elements are terrible too—shumon couldn’t write a fight scene to save his life, and it’s especially obvious in how contrived the protagonist’s main ability is so it just feels like one asspull after another, and while some people like to praise shumon’s prose, these parts are especially awful to read.

honestly, i don’t think there’s anything worth saving in that visual novel, aside from maybe the overall production values and konome being wife but it’s hard to say it’s worth slogging through all that just for her, especially since her route isn’t anything special either. most of the complaints i have about itsukatodokuanokusoni apply to most of shumon’s works anyhow, such an awful writer.

True, I felt the same way. I got both Konnyaku and Parfait together because you need to do some woodoo magic with hex editor to get them running, and I read konnyaku in one breath, what a pure litbus tier SOL group of friends KINO. And then I started parfait and wasn't feeling any characters or setting and deleted it once all characters got introduced...WA2 was garbage, every single dramatic moment when I was supposed to be feeling something, I was laughing my ass off insted, I guess it passes as comedy, but it's nowhere near Konnayku. Didn't play Damekoi because I heard it's more like WA2 and I be damned if I'm forced to sit through that nothingburger again.

I'd say damekoi might be worth it. There's some wholesomeness to it too, in romance it's closer to WA2 but in terms of down to earthness of it all it's closer to Konnyaku.

I'll add it back to the list, I once saw couple CGs of that one girl in just white shirt that almost made me do it ...and she's stuck in my head ever since

On a completely different topic, I'm reading Demonbane and I'm kinda disappointed...I was withholding reading it as last absolute Nitro+ kino I will ever read, but it turned out more of a totono/axanael/hanachirasu type of experience, slightly above those actually, where I'll just remember it being "solid but not quite my thing".
Standout points for me are: quite unique cool prose, Al is one of the hottest anime women ever with good personality and seiyuu too, Kurou seiyuu also doing good job, Elza is cute robo, that's about it.
I never liked TTGL that much because of it's structure of having to have random mech-improving fights with no real tension every episode, and it's sort of similar. I also know from how popular black souls and subahibi/tsui no sora are because of lovecraftian horror, people love that and I never read anything by Lovecraft, so it doesn't hold as much sentimentality or weight, so when I see Nig Niggeroth or Nyaratotep mentioned it doesn't cause onions response within me.

That being said, seems like Sumaga is gonna be my last Nitro+ kino unless someone is willing to claim that Hello World is actually never before seen kamige and make me read it eventually. I have my complaints with Sumaga, but looking back and listening to some OST songs in my playlist, it was soooo much fun and I miss it.

After you do the Rin route a couple routes later they reveal Rin was basically magically lobotomized and had all of her personality and talent ripped out and put in a doll, and then when she gets it back she basically becomes a different person. The links there are what I'm currently downloading. I found the game Girlcelly uploaded on an obscure japanese site on duck duck go go where they have a direct download option available since every other seeders are dead. I'm stuck on the key thing I already tried multiple CD mounters but they all say the same error "key belongs to another CD". I think it's has something to do with how windows 10 works since they never updated the base game. CD's are automatically mounted on a virtual SCSI drive now nearly all of them are even daemon according to Google. Later on I found that anime sharing link. I can finish downloading in 4 hours it says it has a special crack but has no comments on whether it works. I'll update later if it's actually true.

I'm actually just going to read root double to learn some words related to sci fi and escape games since I'm more interested in reading secret game. This entire debacle of me trying to find an old ass Japanese game which has an updated English version available has taught me one thing the Japanese are even more awful than English companies when it comes to game preservation. I don't know why they never bothered to port the Xtend version to modern systems in Japanese. It's still stuck on the PS3 and Vita in Japan.

The other cool thing I've learned in all of this is that they used to make cool ass bonuses for CDs. The root double copy I found has some cool screensavers and their official Japanese web has icons and backgrounds they made for people to use for Twitter. Alright that's enough nerding out from me.

I think your issue is mount-related, probably due to W10, since when I read it on W7 I don't think I had any issues.

I just downloaded the version on AB to test, and using the usual WinCDEmu it failed, throwing a wrong key error. So then I reinstalled Daemon Tools Lite for the first time since I needed it for Muv-Luv, making sure to avoid the malware VPN opt-in, made an SCSI drive, and sure enough it worked. If I had to guess, there's probably nothing special about the AB version, and it's just that sometimes these stupid finicky installations need Daemon Tools, or JP system region, or other random bullshit.

But, just in case the AB version is special somehow, I have uploaded it for you here. Expiry is in 3 days. I probably should just upload it to nyaa for the greater good but I can't be assed. Also be aware that the catbox servers are shitting the bed right now so your download might get interrupted, it took me like 20 tries to upload. Alright I finished downloading through animesharing and I can confidently say this is the best crack since its drag and drop compared to having to install daemon tools. I'll check the files you and the other anon shared but most likely they're the same since the included key from this copy is the same as the GirlCelly one. I have no idea how and where he got the crack but it is hilarious how an animesharing link with no comments was the key to solving all of this.

Here's the crack if anybody else is interested in playing. Someone should make a torrent from this in case an anon 20 years from the future suffers from the same problem I did of not wanting to play the English version.

single iteration of cunny scales 2x from original res
so a single cunny 4x32 pass should be more than enough for proper 1080 -> 4k

720 is gonna be harder because single cunny iteration only gets you 1440p, the rest is needs to be either stretched with something like bicubic or lanczos which isn't gonna look pretty on 4k
so idk try to do apply cunny 4x32 two times and tell us how it looks
don't forget to set scale override to app in properties, you need to upscale from original window and not already sloppy utter garbage-tier window upscaling

Text looks surprisingly very good to me, and the sprites look decent.
That said the VN is running at 6 FPS since I'm still using my GTX 1070, so I don't see myself playing like this for the time being.

Finished Otochika.

>Maho > Mare > Yuyu > Chami

It was a decent enough game but I think it's one of Ensemble's weaker recent games. I'd recommend pretty much anything they've released in the last five years over this except for Secret Agent. Not bad, just not as good as they've done before. The magical girl premise was neat, I just wish they did more with it, Yuyu's route is really the only one that played into it at all. It felt like it could've had a lot more plot going on but they cut back so it was all relegated to the last minutes of Maho's route and the after story. I'll definitely remember this VN for them seriously ramping up the gay though, they've been trending gayer and gayer in each ensemble game, sooner or later they'll go full homo. I'll also remember it for Mare getting cucked by her clone, what a weird route.

it's a vanilla romance drama. the main appeals are the passage of time theme across the titles and some of the heroines. they are not an outstanding set of visual novels, but 2 and 4 would be worth it for most people here.

They are not moege lol(in fact some titles have heroines with ex boyfriends which won't be allowed in moege)
They are grounded love drama, like wa2, kiminozo, etc. Unlike those not all titles contain love triangle, but there is always some messy situation around relationships.
For example memoff 4 MC gets dumped by his gf right at the start of the game and she tells him she never loved him since beginning. Is this truth? Or is there another reason behind those words? Will he move on to another girl or try to get her back?

If you want to see yuuko doing well, yuu going out with nagi (dw yuuko is doing well), or renji going out with the Original Mizuki (水姫), then yeah it's worth it I guess.
But just like the main game you have to play through the 4 afterstories first, all of the 4 are taking place in a same day and so it's repetitive but with different POVs. I've played the fandisk years ago but my japanese was hetakuso without any texthook so there's part I missed. And then suddenly I remembered a certain scene in fandisk where kuze tries to lift up mizuki's skirt and so on, so, ah, I don't think I would reread the VN. Seriously this pairing killed my rating for ef - the latter tale eventho chihiro's and yuuko's chapters are kino. It's not like I hate age gap, but alas how terrible the romance between them built up was

Sorrow covers me when I read it, but at times it's genuinely upbeat while maintaining a level of melancholy. It does make me dread how the ending might turn out, but I'm hoping there will be something happy. And the soundtrack is incredible as well. Kiries theme so far fills me with a feeling of longing and sadness, with a small mixture of hope. The psychology of the protagonist is genuinely depressing, and I wonder if that will be a theme going forward. How do you guys decide which heroine to chose? I always go by the rule of 'Which girl benefits the most from my love?', which typically means I pick shy, friendless girls, injured girls, girls who have never experienced and shun love or girls with significant promises made to the MC.

Any girls who seem well put together, happy or overly insistent on being flirty towards the MC are invisible in my eyes and I don't care if they suffer afterwards also for girls who have suffered but still pretend to be happy, I don't like people who are decietful and pretending to be happy when you're not is deceit in my eyes, those girls deserve to suffer alone for the rest of their lives, you get what you ask for.

Um there were plenty of remakes in the early 00s. Hell even in the 90s. What kind of ridiculous joke is this pretending remakes are a new thing? Now to mention, they're far more warranted now, almost 30 years into the future, than back when they got a remake 5 years after the original. And yes, all the excuses you will make up for why it was okay back then also apply today.

Pick whichever heroine that has the best chemistry with the protagonist (rare because default faceless no personality protagonists are the norm unfortunately). Otherwise I go with the one that is most interesting to me which varies game by game.

The problem with VNDB tags are I can't be sure if the NTR/Rape is the main character or one of his monsters doing the raping because evil route tag, or defeat that leads to rape, or unavoidable rape. I can tolerate the first two because I can just alt+f4 away from the consequences, but I can't tolerate unavoidable shit.

Years ago I would say that I love VN's to the point that I need them to be happy, that the romance in them is the most valuable thing I have in my life and that I would want to read VNs as much as I could every week.

Nowadays I'm no longer interested in their stories, when I think of playing a VN I now feel like it's a waste of time. It's scary. It's so scary how my interests I once though of as immutable are completely wiped away out of nowhere.

I generally read all routes, so I don't stress out about the decision too much; I'm really only picking the order.

My criteria for my first playthrough is usually putting myself in the protagonist's shoes and making the choices I think I would make in their situation and seeing how my decisions would have worked out.
In games where the routing isn't just pick-a-heroine, sometimes this means I end up with a heroine who wasn't necessarily my favorite, but often I'll end up liking her way more than I thought I would. The feeling I get from arriving at a heroine "organically" instead of strategically arranging our romance can make a big difference sometimes.

Like you I also tend to favor heroines who are obviously struggling in some way where the protagonist can help them through it, but I disagree about the second half of your post. All heroines are deserving of love.
Pain is subjective and experiential; everyone's a victim of something. And love isn't a reward you get to balance out suffering, it's a beautiful part of life that everyone gets to experience.

There was a big section in henpri where they talked about how eroge are getting more and more unaffordable to the point where the only people who can afford them are whales. It's a cycle where games get more expensive -> only hardcore fans can afford them -> games get even more expensive. Because KEY has a bigger audience, they can afford to price cheaper (and because they're pricing cheaper they have a bigger audience, repeat).

I guess that makes sense. I mean, even if you check the prices compared to even modern triple A games in regular consoles or PC, rarely do they ever break 10000 yen. That makes even Key expensive in the grand scheme of things.
