Qualis will begin at 8:30 pm EST sharp, so please plan accordingly if you're participating.
>Qualis system
Since the lobby can only hold 7 racists, using a randomizer we'll divide every racer into 2 groups, A and B.
Two lobbies will be created, in which racers drawn to their respective group must go to.
Each group will race 5 ROUNDS in the same 5 tracks, which will be chose by a randomizer and posted here once every group is set.
After each race, we'll log the TIMING of each racer and, using AI or your brain if you're big brained, we'll add them up until the 5 races have been finished.
The 7 best overall times will qualify for the Tournament.
Keep in mind that I'm gonna post the times for whatever group I'm drawn in, so I'd appreciate if an anon in the other group kept track of their group.
>Points system
Once the qualis are done, the top 7 racists will earn their ticket to compete in the GLORIOUS /jp/ SKYDRIFT TOURNAMENT.
The tournament consists of 12 ROUNDS, chosen at random and posted here shortly before we start.
After each race, racists will earn the following points which will be added to the leaderboard:
1st place – 10 points
2nd place – 8 points
3rd place – 6 points
4th place – 4 points
5th place – 3 points
6th place – 2 points
7th place – 1 point
Please allow 2 to 3 minutes between each race so that I can post the updated leaderboard to the thread.
After the 6th race, we'll have a 15 minute half-time break for piss and snacks.
At the end of the 12th round, whoever has the most points WINS THE FUCKING CHIP AND BECOMES KING OF DA JPSIES.
>A reminder of da rules:
Both for the qualis as well as the tourney proper, we will only use the initial same 2 characters throughout.
If there's any change the player will still be allowed to keep racing, but will be disqualified from the championship.
>WALL OF HONOR
Here's a list of the tournament's champions so far:
>1st edish
SlowestRetard
>2nd edish
SlowestRetard
>3rd edish

>4th edish

Is cherry still around? he wasn't at the last tourney or any races building up to it....
I was thinking of making a guide to help new players understand the game and git gud, since there's no real ingame tutorial and the manual sucks. I'm still pretty new myself, though, so I'd appreciate it if other guys share their tips, too. We can compile it in a rentry or something when it's done.
>Basic Game Mechanics:
- You gain spell meter quickly by passing through boost rings and slowly while driving normally. Drawing a spell card while the meter is full (green) will consume the meter. Drawing a spell card while the meter is filled twice (blue) will give you a stronger spell card and consume the meter. When your LW meter (yellow) is full and your spell meter is also filled twice, you can consume both to get your LW. (Spell cards can be seen here:
https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Spell_Cards).
- You charge your spell meter and LW meters faster and you get boosting and jumping spellcards more often when you're in a worse position in the race.
- Drifting helps conserve speed while changing direction and going around corners.
- Your current stats are those of the racer who is currently the "board". Switching characters consumes a bit of spell meter, but it will switch the stats you are currently using, which can be well-worth the cost.
- The importance of all the stats is explained here (
https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Stats), but just know that they're all important with maybe Mass being less important than the others. It's recommended to choose two racers whose strengths complement each other.
>Advanced Knowledge and Tricks:
- Switching characters gives you a small boost. This will let you gain distance even on straightaways with no boost rings.
- Jumping spellcards can be used on some parts of the tracks to hop over short fences, sizable gaps, or onto higher ledges for the sake of shortcuts. Be sure to activate them early enough to gain the height you need.
- Pressing up while in the air can give you a small vertical boost. Use this to gain a little bit more height while flying or to help you cross small gaps without falling. This can help with cutting really tight turns over ledges, like in the two lava levels. Also, pressing down will in the air will give you a small boost downward.
- Drifting conserves the speed you already have while lessening the amount of speed you gain from boosts. So if you start a drift at the exact moment a boost ends (and not too much sooner, or else will you miss out on some speed gain), you can keep your heightened speed for longer. This is called "break drifting" (
https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Break_Drift). Many turns typically have boost rings within them, so break drifting can be used many times in a race to great overall benefit.
- Some tracks have big hidden shortcuts that don't require items. Some of them just require you to fly fast enough and far enough to skip a section of track or land somewhere high up. Try exploring the tracks on your own time or by watching other people while racing (CPU players don't bother with shortcuts, so you won't learn from them).

Let's get serious about growing our audience – or should I say, start growing one. By this I mean spectators who can tune in which will also grow our competitor base.
From my perspective, the key to this is to start streaming the tourneys. I don't know shit about streaming tho and my internet is bad enough lol but if anyone is savvy about cytube or twitch or whatever then we could test something for tomorrows race?

So it'd be cool if anyone could try the spectator mode tomorrow (given that we open a 2nd lobby) before figuring streaming out

I just confirmed that Japaense DID change characters, because he happens to be a friend of my friend that I invited (Pony, so that's why he knew about the thread). He wasn't aware of the rule of changing characters. And he IS willing to re-race.
BUT yoyo did finish last this race, so he wouldn't reach Japanese's totals even if this race didn't count.
So we have 2 options:
>Award Japanese the victory
OR
>Re-race Maricircuit

Apologies for not helping out with planning much when I've been here a while, I did want to at some point in the past.

See you all next month!!!

I fucked up slightly in the start of the human village and mari-circuit, which was enough to make the difference. the people who are already in first don't have to worry about getting hit by master sparks, stray amulets, mushroom bombs, etc because the guy in second place isn't incentivized to draw many items unlike those behind who require those items to catch up. unless there's a sanae nuke or something similar, they can usually pull ahead while the pack fights.
if I were to redesign the game I would probably make it so that offensive items were less common when in 4th and 5th place, like they are for 6th and 7th place

Sorry yoyo, but this it total bullshit. I've seethed so hard at this game because of how many leads were taken from me by some bullshit random spell that made me finish 5th or some shit. I would've already won a chip if it wasn't for the typical Skydrift bullshit. So your theory doesn't fly.

there are always exceptions, but the general rule is true that you don't have to worry as much when you're in the lead. when you get raped by items as a frontrunner, it's tragic. when you get raped by items while in the pack, then it's expected. many of my wins happen when I race nearly-perfect for the first half of the race. and once I get a decent lead I notice... "hey, I haven't even seen an item for a good two minutes! I wonder how the other guys are doing?" then I look at the left side of the screen and see everyone else spinning out because of a master spark or triple mushrooms or something as my lead on the map steadily grows. and most of my losses happen when I can't secure that early position as one of the frontrunners and get utterly obliterated by things I can't even hope to defend against 90% of the time unless I draw an elixir or something.
that's just how one wins consistently; the guys in the back can't hit you if they aren't even close enough to see you, after all. again, there are exceptions to ths hard-earned peace: Sanae's, Kokoro's, Clownpiece's, and Remilia's LWs target 1st especially, as well as the possibility that the person in second place is close enough to hit you with an amulet or bomb or can snipe you with onbashira over a gap. but LWs are inconsistently-used, and itemwise it's a lot easier to manage one guy in 2nd place who's barely getting any meter than it is to manage the guy next to you, ahead of you, and behind you when you're in 5th place and everyone there is getting meter and drawing items like a madman in hopes of getting that cradle/reverie/elixir that will let them actually catch up to the frontrunners rather than just dicking over everyone nearby.
of course, that's not the only way to win; there are other strategies like bagging for good items or for a powerful LW and then making a mad dash from the middle of the pack to first place during the final lap. and I'm not gonna pretend like I know everything about the game just yet, either. but this is the strategy I've discovered that works the best, and this is my reasoning and observations as for why it works. I just need to sharpen my skills so that I can put it into practice on every map and not just the ones I've gotten good at optimizing (ironically, the maps I now struggle to get ahead on are the ones that are simple to drive). but when I do, watch out!
