I didn't end up getting it. While I could have thrown another bid at the rifle I decided not to. While it is a Saiga, it is some mutant parts build as you guys pointed out, and that would forever bother me. I sat up all night and just stared at what I have really wanted. I am gonna put a Beryl on layaway when I get up later. I know layaway is a bit of a meme anymore, but it will give me a little more wiggle room with my finances until I can sell off some stuff from my collection. Its funny, I never liked the Beryl. But I would say maybe a week or two ago I saw one on here I think and then watched a few videos on them, then saw a factory tour of FB and I knew I had to get one. Plus, if FB is honestly shutting down their Beryl line to go all in on the Grot the rifle will gain value and wont really be out any money if I don't end up liking it. ty /akg/, you guys have all been pretty good to talk to.

Oof, hopefully you don't live in or near Seattle at least.
>Classic Beryl
Yeah that is what I was gonna go for. I habe seen a few of those wire stocks around and they aren't too crazy expensive. But for around the same price I could also get a Bonesteel/CNCwarrior folding stock. Plus I like AK stocks to fold left, and with the receiver being empty on the left side it makes even more sense. I saw some old school Beryl sight mounts on RTG and was thinking of maybe picking one of those up too.

It's been a while since I've been into rifles so I'd like to get some stuff straight.
A: If I want 7.62x39 then I should go WBP and expect to pay around $1000.
B: If I want 5.56 (and I do) then I should get a Beryl and I should expect to pay around $1500.
That about right?

Also what's the opinion on PSA's Bizon? I know it's PSA but it's not like I'll be trusting my life to it.

It's an AKV with a body kit. Those POS blow up on their own and PSA blamed it on the ammo. Until the guns started blowing up with AAC rounds.

PSA partnered with Stuff and Things for the AKV kit but it can be bought separately and will also fit on a KP9 and 9mm Dracos IIRC. Itโ€™s a neat toy and glad to have โ€œBizon at homeโ€ but itโ€™s just that. I wouldnโ€™t give PSA your hard earned cash unless itโ€™s a deal that canโ€™t be had elsewhere.

>everything else
Pretty much, although Beryl imports are expected to dry up if they havenโ€™t already, as FB Radom focuses production on the Grot rifle. Once that happens prices will jump since they are a limited quantity.
I decided I wanted a 7.62x39 Beryl as my a souvenir (and my first real AK) for a month long work trip to Poland. Iโ€™m hopeful (coping) that for some reason theyโ€™ll continue production of those for whatever third world country that wants them but Iโ€™ll probably end up settling for a WBP and spend the rest on ammo.

They've been making parts for a while. A lot of the "affordable" parts kit builds on the market are from them. G3's, Galil, VZ-61 etc . The only bad things I've heard about them came from the VZ-61 receivers. The first run was horribly out of spec but the subsequent runs fixed that.

source: have one. I think they had to stop making them because they caught a lawsuit or C&D from CSA due to being too similar IIRC

It would probably cost less in time, money and headaches to just buy a 5.56 RPK.
The Vepr IV and Chinese AKS-223 are 2 that come to mind.

Would easier to buy one but 5.56 RPK types are rather rare. Arsenal sold 23" 5.56 RPK barrels at one point but I can't remember the last time I've seen them in stock. 5.45 RPK / VEPR are uncommon as it is. If you really wanted one I would buy a complete 5.45 gun and have somebody swap the barrel and bolt

Randomly stumbled across a NHM-90 stock for $10. Doesn't fit my AK but I wasn't planning on using it on the one I have right now anyways, though weirdly the fitment is off differently than what I would've expected. But what the hell were the Chinese (or American importers) thinking with that grip design on the thumbhole stock? It's flat backed inside the front of the thumbhole with a sharp radius. Front to back the grip of the thumbhole stock measures 1" on a (tapered, average) 1.5" wide grip. Has any other gun ever been designed with a pistol grip or thumbhole stock wider than it is long? It would've cost less, been more comfortable, and been stronger if they cut out a smaller hole instead (like the nicer MAK-90 stocks). Also it has some nice curly figure on one side which I've noticed a decent amount of Chinese AKs seem to have IIRC.

Am I crazy or is that basically just a jar latch? By that I mean the type with a glass lid, flat ring seal with a tab, and wire ring and hinge.

I priced everything out. I also failed to mention it is a Saiga sporter kit. Between needing a new receiver (I learned ak builders don't touch 80%'s), the FSB/comp, GB, handguard retainer, gas tube, trigger group, mag catch/trigger guard, trunnion, a shitty 4.5mm Bulgarian side folder, finally the cost to have CW GW build it the whole build would be over $1800 with everything I already got into it. That is also not including the $300+ for the cerakote CW gunwerks quoted me too. I thought about it more since I posted and I'd rather just have the Beryl since it is 'cheap' by comparison.

I actually like the idea of this gun just because if PSA is going to make American abomination AK's then they may as well make a distinct abomination that is logistically feasible for the American market. PSA should make their own interpretation of the AK47 instead of trying to make actual AK47's and fail at it.

Unfortunately I don't think you an do anything about that. The holes just don't line up. I wouldn't worry about it so long as its secure and the dust cover is relatively parrael to the barrel. Use Loctite. Its fine

>dust cover gap
do you mean between the dust cover and receiver? Less ideal. Install it 100% and see if wobbles. If it does you might have to wrap it in something soft and bend or crush it so that its tighter. Don't do that until you've verified that its actually an issue

Yes. Thereโ€™s a very thin gap between the receiver and the dustcover and a small hole where it meets the trunnion. When itโ€™s all screwed together I feel no wobble whatsoever but itโ€™s super annoying. Pic related is the rail off the rifle and the gap persists. Should I just nut up and loctite it down? Part of me wants to nut up and buy a compatible Zenitcope hand guard that will fit nicer but thereโ€™s few options for short hand guards and Iโ€™m not buying current Zenit prices.

This is just the reality of AK parts and you got unlucky. Maybe you could fill the gap with JB weld. which would act like a bedding of sorts and minimize wobble. People sometimes like to accurize their rifles by filling gaps with semi-squishy stuff like glass epoxy because it makes things tigther. You don't wanna glue them together but instead you goop some on one part and then file it away until it fights with some pressure.

Lay some masking tape around the parts you don't want high heat JB weld and then lay it on there. You now have a file-fit part. JB weld can be painted to so nobody but you will know its bubba'd. Its annoying but thats what I would do if I were you and didn't want to spend anymore money.

No, one of these (generic pic because lazy). Also the buttplate is not fitted and no attempt was even made lol. Good 1mm overhang on top, 2mm on bottom. The pistol grip itself has a flat back. Always thought they looked silly compared to a MAK-90 sporter but wow, holding an NHM stock really cements that. Silly design choices for sure.

There's something to that, because of the State buying the industrial equipment to properly forge components.
Most manufacturers aren't liquid enough to sink multiple millions into machinery that will take decades to recoup. So they cut corners and sell half assed AK shaped guns which just tanks any trust in them in the future.

Because this >>63801419 would be risky as domestically produced AKs would cost the consumer way more than imports. Would you buy an AK for twice the price of an import? Probably not. So they won't make that risky investment and they try to exist in a price bracket below import AKs.
They're shit on purpose for the poor market. Unfortunately for the uneducated poors it seems to be a working business model.

I think I would trust my GF5 a lot more were it not for an early (300-round) firing pin replacement that I had to make because of a few light primer strikes. I replaced with an Arsenal pin and itโ€™s been fine since, although I recently opened it up and I think the back of the pin is longer than PSAโ€™s by a little and so it has made a nice little nick on the rear trunnion. Iโ€™m hoping a 3 position FRT comes out soon so I can make it my guinea pig rifle.

Quit that shit nigga thats retarded. There aren't any QD stocks because thats kind of not conducive to reliability or durability. The closest you can get to QD is a 1913 picatinny adapter. Then you can nigger rig some QR clamp in between your stock and the adapter. Just look up "1913" or "picatinny rail stocks" and find one that you like. There's plenty of stocks that include their own folding mechanism too.

Just get a folding stock like everybody else

Its probably a WUM rifle. Made on a military production line but intended for the Civillian US market. Unfortunately they were banned in the early 2000's-late 90's so they're mostly stuck floating around Europe and getting turned into parts kits for US import. Generally lower quality compared to CUGIR. I have a WUM-1 and its quite ugly compared to my other Romanian stuff. Its fine though.

The dot markings you're talking about were done with an electro-pencil most likely. There are Romanian PSl style AKM stocks that you can install on your rifle. APEX gun parts in the US currently has them but I'm not sure if they will ship to a yuropoor. They didn't want to ship things to me when I lived overseas.

Because
a. Primary and secondary sources are important, especially when people in this community are prone to spreading rumors that snowball into neo-fuddlore.
b. It covers obscure AK variants and production details and provides good clear shots of whole guns, internal shots, and accessories.
c. Lots of good AK knowledge is hosted on boomer forums that are liable to go down with no warning or archives. Even the ones that are still around don't save images very well either.

the national registry give it as a INTRACS MK1 WUM-1 CUR (a mouthful), so I guess you are onto something.
I already bought a psl style stock for like your picrel
if the markings are electropenciled, it was machine made, i have electro pencil marking made freehanded on a both my m76, it look crappier than on the picture
mine also got a slanted muzzle break, a "classic" stock, and as far as I can tell, fsb mounted correctly, and I hope the full graduation on the rear sight

on a side note, did someone already tried printing a suppressor for 7.62x39 ? i found the files for "whisper in the desert", im just hoping it can take the heat or just wont explode with the muzzle blast
i intend on modifying it to get a pbs-1 look, or maybe make a pbs lookalike myself using metal

The other anons was close. It's called dot peening. Here's some more info on that.

Get something in 7.62 or 5.56. 5.45 is cool but on its way out until Russia isnt sanctioned.
I suggest a Zastava M92. Its one of my favorite guns to shoot. 7.62x39mm subsonics are very quiet with a can too.

god i fucking hate boomers
"muh indestructible" "300 shot fired"
then why is the gaz system corroded and the muzzle brake almost welded from rust ?
fucker probably shot corrosive surplus ammo and though the "indestructible" rifle didnt need any cleaning
gaz tube was covered in rust, barrel is (thankfully) okay but with traces of pitting, piston head is pitted, gaz block is black and dull, rough to the touch
thanks for reading my rant blogpost

to be fair, its not too bad, but far from the condition I expected
picrel is the muzzle brake after scrubbing
the rifle have a non standard rail, i guess from a PSL
otherwise im happy
with one hour of scrubbing, i managed to get most of the rust out, oiled the fucker and i cant wait to get it on a range

what is the best way to remove rust from the gaz tube ? i ran a steel wool ball in it, soaked in oil, tight enough that i had to it the ramrod i used to make it advance
also, is there a way to stabilize rust to avoid further oxidation ? being a yuropoor, i will run surplus ammo in it (albeit with the fucking steaming hot shower after range day)

Its not exactly a PSL side rail but it is very similar and SVD type. The PSL side rail has spotwelds and is slightly longer compared to the WUM.

>is there a way to stabilize rust to avoid further oxidation
You can boil it in distilled water which will convert the brown rust into a black finish. Its a form of bluing and good for hard to reach places or very stuck parts. That will stop rust completely but change the finish of the entire part though. Alternatively you could rub some kind of rust converter on it. I don't know which brands are available in Europe but there's stuff you can smear/spray onto of rust which will turn it black.

That's called "patina" in boomer speak.
To be fair, it is a Sadu; one of the lowest of the 4 Romanian Arsenals so the quality is going to be lesser.
As for the gas tube, I've always used a 12g bore brush, but my gas tube isn't rusted so ypur milage may vary.
>is there a way to stabilize rust to avoid further oxidation ?
Rust stabilizers are available such as Phosphoric acid (ospho) or more commercial stuff like Rust reformer.

I wouldn't even recommend an ALG trigger unless you're doing competition shooting. Great and crispy but too light honestly.
Tapco G2, RAK-1, FIME, even PSA are all good to go. Out of all of the above my favorite is the RAK-1 after about 500 rounds of break in.

Not this anon but keep in mind you still have to use #0000 steel wool to remove the remaining loose rust after boiling. Of course you also want to remove wood and plastic parts before boiling. After boiling, scrubbing the left over rust with steel wool, and drying, you want to oil the parts again as hot water is a great degreaser.
