The Brits, who are generally the best western nation for ceremonial stuff, dedicate a massive amount of time to getting it right. We don't, we never will either.

The lesson here is that for the next parade, the lead time for practicing needs to be bigger, and the bands need to be spaced out further so everyone gets a cadence. Problem solved.

The truth is, when you train a bunch of teenagers to become elite conventional forces, you end up with a unit no more or less competent at warfighting than lesser trained units composed of soldiers in their mid 20's early 30's, because experience actually matters. That's why there just isn't a comparable unit in terms of composition and training in the rest of NATO. Because it's a bad way to form a supposedly elite unit.

When you look at actually elite conventional units in other NATO armies, they aren't significantly better or more trained and equipped. They're just composed of soldiers who have already served in other units or desperate foreigners who'll do anything, like the French and Spanish Foreign Legions.
I don't know why Americans have that terrible tendency to throw people with very little experience into heavy training. That happened even at the highest level, Larry Vickers was in Delta at 19. They just don't have the existing knowledge of why they do what they do to benefit from that training.

Most parades worldwide consist of regular units selected for the parade as a point of honor (and also a moderately big pain in the ass, but bitching about things is just the natural state of being for boots).
After being selected, they drill regularly until the event, on top of their regular duties. It's not very hard to make people above 80 IQ lock step correctly after a couple of days. Their bodies should remember from basic.
This event was planned a long time in advance for the Army's 250th birthday, there is absolutely no excuse for the ragtag performance on display.

If you’re willing to put the work in for some tedious, small stuff like marching then you’ll probably have a good mentality when you're getting put through the ringer. Doesn’t translate 1-to-1 all the time, there’s some guys who love drill but they suck at their jobs. Generally speaking though, it’s an easy way to see who will put in effort and who cares about the details. A lot of schoolhouses still require you to march everywhere unsupervised just to see who thinks they can get away with getting around regulations.

Just finished watching the parade and although the quality of the marching could have been better, it wasn't that bad although whoever chose the music deserves a slap because it was absolutely atrocious at the end.
