>Could Russia realistically do anything if China invaded Siberia?

No, the initial chinese nuclear strike will take out 90% of the already small russian population.

The survivors will have to fight the country that makes most drones in the world and, in fact, makes most anything in the world. The russian genocide would be rewarded by new western allies, starting a new chinese golden age at the expense of the illegal moscow terrorist regime and its followers.

China has a standing army of 2mln, Russia has 1 mln and is already engaged in a war it can't win any time soon. Ukraine decimated its nuclear strike force just recently. Most of Russia's population is in the West of the country, while China is at Russia's border. How do you conquer 100s of miles of swamp with no objectives in them, though?

My guess is China simply doesn't want Siberia because it makes them more money now than if they'd have to govern it.

IMO China doesn't (actively) pursue Siberia because it has an alliance with Russia. There's a lot of shit there it wants (largest freshwater lake, access to the Sea of Japan with Vladivostok), and a lot of it was lost about a century ago.

A lot of people seem to think MAD is about ego (attack the US/Russia and you get nuked)! The literal goal of MAD is to not use it, because your entire civilisation will be wiped out. And a big point to actively achieve that is to be as clear as possible about when you'll use it.

>And the "Russians" living there will hunt them for sport

Tuvans hunted and actively sniped Russians during the 1990s in Tannu Tuva killing hundreds and driving out thousands of Russians back to Moscow.

Tuvans have above replacement fertility and are extremely violent and stabbed Russian conscripts during hazing rituals in the military.

Your image of Russians comes from Hollywood movies. Tons of Russians are urban dwelling skinny nerds wearing glasses who play counter strike.

Escalate to nuking Russia's strategic forces? That will necessarily trigger all-out nuclear war and then you've traded X00,000,000 chinamen or total annihilation for the prize of...Siberia.

People don't realize how fragile Russian East is in war with China. It's connected to Russia by literally one railroad and one road. Changs want to be import independent for critical input materials. Siberia is exactly what they need. Demographic doomerism is a meme just like global warming before that and christian judgement/doomsday before the latter

Why does a country experiencing a demographic crisis, building ghost cities to prop up its GDP, need Siberian wasteland?

Sadly, they cannot go down this road, it would set a precedent of China recognizing the right for self determination of the people, how many pieces of China could use that excuse to secede? It is for this reason that China did not recognize the fake annexations. They Will go down the "Historical territory" rout. Not that I care whence the russian butthurt flows.

>Siberia has the world's greatest untapped reserves of raw minerals and oil
It certainly has a lot off shit, but it's in a remote inhospitable asscrack of the world and remains untapped for a reason. Why spend all that money on a war to get resources that are way more expensive to exploit and require assloads of investment when Bruce over there has a bulk tanker full of iron ore he's more than happy to sell to you?

Unironically Noook, nothing else
Anons talk about long supply roads, but China only needs to reach Omsk or Tjumen to basically cut off the whole eastern part of Russia, without Russia having enough manpower or gear to push them out
Sure there will be pockets of russians further north but what are they going do, use Tiksi or another settlement on the arctic ocean coast as a staging ground and then do a 3000km river raid along the Lena or Yenisey?

And that reason been Moscovite regime stealing all wealth for it's capital.
If ruled by Americans they would populate it by homesteading, but Russian official are literally shaking with anger at one thought of giving land and freedom to Russian citizens for free.

History has proven those places are insufferable otherwise you will find how small amounts of people living there. I mean only when climate change is real like world temperature raise 10 degrees that those land become suitable for living. Otherwise no, besides those resources are not going to utilized due to russian government. Why would China attack them when they can just buy cheap? They are facing a nuclear war for that and chances are both are losing and even it escalates to world nuclear war. So i don't think that will happen in any time. But who knows in a hundred years?

again, the world don't lack resource country. China is deeply merged into global trade and the last thing they need is land. You still don't get it. Trade and technology are the best weapons and China have both. They don't need those land for nationalism as it's not helping the economic reality. No one in China except nationalists want land. Being gigantic isn't helping them. In fact it's a threat. That's how Russia fell so hard because how much land they got in the end sent them to graves. Russia now can either loot or war against weak countries or thy are in a dead end.

>Which is compleyely at odds with what has been and always will be an land empite

China had a superior navy in before ironclad watship era in the 19th century.

Chinese wooden and sail naval warships defeated Japan in every naval wat before the 19th century, Japan had numerical superiority at Baekgang and Noryang when Chinese ships massacred them.

Japan only became a naval power after the Meiji restoration when Britain built their modern naval fleet.

Japan had to beg the Dutch for ships when they planned to invade the Spanish Philippines because Japan's navy was terrible before the 19th century, Japan lost to outnumbered Portuguese at Fukuda Bay (Chinese defeated Portuguese navy at Tamão and Veniaga and defeated the Dutch at Pescadores and Liaoluo bay and Taiwan )

So no, you're wrong, China was the dominant naval power in East Asia before the 19th century.

well aside from nuking and causing devastating casualties nothing, on the other hand why would china shoot it in the head like that?
