I have never trusted my life more to any firearm more than my m9. It is the most accurate pistol I've owned by far, easy enough to carry, feeds more reliably than a cow, eats cheap 9mm budget ammo like a pig eats slop, and doesn't give a shit if it's dirty or clean, as long as it has some oil. I'd sooner grab this gun than my shotgun or ak for home defense, that's how deeply I trust it. It's also far more maneuverable. Recoil is comically insignificant and I would trust this with 2 mags to get me out of any situation possible, though I don't carry a spare mag (except in the truck) because it's already such a capable piece without one.

I'm wholly convinced that no better firearm exists for the common man than the M9, at least not when it comes to personal protection.

I really like the 92 fs too, it's a super comfy firearm. It's also my main handgun. That being said, at the end of the day it's just a pistol tho, no need to be overly autistic about it.

The orig 92fs doesn't have a replacable / dovetailed front sight tho which is a bummer. But yeah other than that I see no issues with it.

92 was my second choice for a handgun. The fact that it's reliable AND aesthetic is rare, these days. Seems like we're trading one for the other, looking specifically at HK pistols.

Me included, but all the Beretta fans I’ve seen hate the GTS and other frame lever models. It’s them catering to people who don’t like Beretta 92s, the slide safety/decocker (ultimately decocker only) is superior to the frame mounted one. On a DA/SA you don’t need a safety or the ability to decock without breaking the firing grip. There’s no tactical need to ever decock without breaking grip. I don’t like the lever position since it makes my grip weird, it’s in the way of my thumb. I could probably get used to it.

If any frame safety model, I’d get the 92Xi SAO.

The 92X RDO or the LTT Elite 92 (from PSA, just a base gun no LTT trigger job) is what I would get. The LTT 92 is 700 dollars from PSA, has aftermarket thin grips (great), and a stainless barrel paired with the classic M9A1 frame. It’s the ultimate 92 in my opinion, except missing the Langdon trigger job.

It’s the base gun from the factory that Langdon receives to customize, so that’s why it’s missing the Langdon work.

The issue m9s can't get through a fucking single mag without a failure half the time. The old 1911s fire flawlessly over and over. The issue glocks in multiple countries I've encountered also function flawlessly. The m9 was absolutely hands down the worst mil issue pistol I ever personally encountered.
As for the original 1911 trials. Yeah, 6000 rounds and they were dunking it in a barrel of water to cool it the fuck down. Try that with the m9 and watch how quickly you have a catastrophic failure.

You cannot get a 6 pound DA pull in a shitty HK DA/SA chud. There is no amount of magic match kit trigger job shit you can do to make a USP trigger as good as a Beretta trigger, I will admit the match kit SA pull is great, but the DA pull is a fucking staple gun still. Plus the match kit makes the reset less positive.

I have my grandpa's old .32 acp Puma as a pocket gun, and for being a compact pistol, it feels pretty ergonomic in my massive hands. It's been used in a couple of defensive shootings (one with gramps and one with pops), and I fully trust it when it's my turn. Partly because she's 2-0, and partly because I have a TISAS 1911A1 repro with 17 Hornady CD hollow points ready to go if eight .32 hollow points aren't enough.

The Berettas have a better trigger than your example, the USP 9, stock and aftermarket they are leaps and bounds better. Handguns can never replace rifles. Pistols have inherently lower accuracy than rifles and even if they didn't, rifles are more stable and it is easier to get shots on target with them. Any advantages they win with "maneuverability" are largely nullified by the fact that people aren't getting into gunfights inside port-a-potties.

trigger is super easy, safety is difficult and should be done in a large white garbage bag or a jumbo ziplock bag due to the amount of small pins and springs.

The M9A3 decocker is what you should use, the safety assembly is more complicated and the M9A3 decocker is a simplification that makes it much easier to install. Should still be done in a plastic bag though. The M9A3 kit comes with extra plungers and springs since Beretta is nice.

Langdon Tactical has a few options for triggers and often has G decocker kits instock (right now they don't).

I never understood why people have an issue with the safety on the slide. I think it's comfy. You can hit it with your right thumb as you're building your grip when pulling from holster quite easily, and you're going to operate it if you re-holster or want to move it to safe for whatever reason mid-shooting with your left thumb. I also can't just draw a shotgun quickly when met with an immediate threat at a gas station or something. Handguns are there when you need them.

In fact, I also couldn't carry an m9 in scrubs. Or my lcr, or my p238 without printing. My only actually usable option is my .22 mag black widow, as it's small enough to pocket carry in scrubs without worrying about printing. The ones Beretta used to cheat with during the trials had aluminum frames that exploded without warning. The issue models with the steel frames which made them heavier than the competition and would have disqualified the firearm just crack. Still, much better off than M17. 1. The issued ones aren’t steel. They’re aluminum, they’ve always been aluminum. Only a few rare models are steel, and the new 92X Performance.
2. The “explosions” happened after it was adopted.
3. The explosions were the slide cracking and splitting in two due to the Winchester/Olins corporation fucking up and infecting the ammo supply with proof level loads, notably a Navy seal was hit in the face with the rear half of the slide. This caused Beretta to redesign the gun from the 92F (F for federal acceptance) into the 92FS (S for safe), where they cut a notch in the slide and a enlarged hammer pin to catch the slide if it snaps in two due to there being no way to recall the proof level loads in US military circulation.

I hate the beretta 92fs and I'm stuck with one. I'd shoot myself with it but I don't even want to honor the gun with that. The sights? Terrible. Grip? Too wide. Those issues can't be fixed. Want a rail? GL finding a holster that accommodates sf mr adapter. It's also heavy and limited on capacity. If you bought into the 92fs cult early, you got setup with 15 rd mags that cannot be easily modified to accept higher. Yes, there are higher capacity mags out there now, but you're telling me I have to buy new mags? The gun is heavier for the same capacity a glock 17 offers. Before you @ me with some form of "well modern berettas are just as good," I will speak the truth inshallah. Those that like "modern" berettas are gun hipsters who can't afford 2011's. Beretta floated the flat dark earth custom ceracoat $1000 m9a3 with the vertex grip system as their entry instead of putting a threaded barrel on the m9a1 they sell for $450, then selling it to Uncle Sam for less than that.

Not even sigger tricks would have been able to unseat Beretta if they hadn't tried to upsell instead of modernize. Armory infrastructure and avoiding retraining is worth more than the ~$200 price difference between a Tupperware sig pistol and the m9, but not apparently worth $800. Considering the basic bitch 92x has most of the a3 improvements at $500 commercially it was largely greed and bad math out of pastaland that handed the contract to bigsig and it's shittiest pistol.

The often repeated rumor I had heard was a lot of the m9 problems in later years were caused by shitty 3rd party magazines that were sourced by DoD, which might explain why civilian Beretta shooters had a better time with their pistols than military users.

Beretta and Mec-Gar mags seem to have a smooth finish while this "milspec" one from Check Mate seems to be very rough parkerized finish.

Mec Gar going for $40 each while Check Mate is $28. Would be just like the military to fuck things up by cheaping out on magazines.

It's the predecessor to the 92F, early 80s production. First version with an American mag release that should use all modern 92 mags. First version with a firing pin block, so it's safe to carry too. Blued finish instead of the Bruniton coating, rounded trigger guard, barrel isn't chrome lined. Not all of the parts are drop-in interchangeable, they didn't standardize everything until the F for the M9 trials, so replacement parts may need fitting. Keep an eye on the locking block for cracks on the "wings" and the narrow corner at the bottom left of the firing pin plunger which was also prone to cracking before they added a relief cut. Replace the recoil spring with a fresh one and buy a replacement locking block if you plan to shoot it a lot. The updated locking blocks are backwards compatible with the SB. Nice gun, enjoy.

Yes, it does. Look at the AR-15 when it was first adopted in Vietnam, before the adoption of the M16A1, or just look at the P320 for a more recent example. The reason that Glocks continue to be the market leader is that its limp-wristing issues can be quickly addressed by properly gripping the gun like a man, whereas the P320 suffers from actual engineering issues that the require the gun to undergo substantial redesigns to address it.

It does not, it has an extended barrel because for the SOCOM trials it was going to have a rail mount threaded barrel adapter which the extended barrel fits into or some other suppressor mount. The extended barrel doesn’t do anything. You could attach something to it with a custom mount, but it can’t be threaded since the rotating barrel unthreads the suppressor. And I thought there was some component you could have that would counter the rotating and/or tilting barrel and solve this. I don't know too much since I don't have anything suppressed and am just hoping they become unregulated under Trump before I rush to go buy one.

The 92/M9 was fed nothing but 9mm NATO, which is a +P load. Just be punctual about changing recoil and hammer springs out regularly (5k if not sooner). The locking block should be changed out at 15k, they can go longer, but it’s like a 38 dollar part just replace it instead of waiting for it to break.

Brigadiers have heavier thicker slides in addition to the front sight dovetail, so slide velocity is lower.

The Brig is one of their few models still on the CA roster, so they pump some more out onto the market now and then for the calicucks. They're not constantly in production, but not discontinued either. It'll handle +P fine, any other 92FS can as well. Even with the thicker slide I'd still use a heavier recoil spring if you're going to shoot shitloads of really hot stuff, because you're going to be hammering the locking block harder than usual and will naturally accelerate wear on the gun. It's nothing I'd worry about if you're just using it occasionally or for defensive use though. The Brig is overbuilt and not at all fragile.

I've always liked the look of the 92s, but they never felt quite right in my hand. The grip grip proportions are off for me. Needs to be thinner side to side or something.

Any metal framed pistol is a patrician choice in my book tbouh.

Oh yeah, the Helwan knockoff 1951. I love that they have the Brigadier style slide cut on them because the metallurgy is so comically shitty that it cannot go without it by any means. Sometimes, it's not even enough!
Meanwhile, the real Italian pistols have the straight cut slides, it's only later variants of the later Beretta 92 which have them as an optional feature (like you wanna run a lot of +P), along with the .40 caliber Beretta 96 pistol.

Man, I wish Beretta made an actual 10mm Auto pistol, like a not-cucked Beretta 96, one with like a 15rd magazine. Or a .45

I've held almost every version of the 92 I've seen in shops. My favorite was one of the models with the vertex backstrap and some really thin factory grips. Still just didn't feel 'right' to me which is basically my #1 criteria. I know it's hardly fair to compare to a single stack, but the ones I posted have a mad grip width of 1.19-1.29.

I'm betting you could get a Vertec to fit you well with particularly thin custom grips. Hell, see if you can feel a Vertec with the grips off to see what it's like from there, just for reference.

nta but the Vertec frames just feel wrong to me, they seem weirdly top heavy. I also love the stock fat Beretta grips though, so must just be me. The 92FS/M9 points perfectly in my hands, I've tried every thin grip out there and they all feel worse, not better.

>I wonder if thread-locker would work but then how would you ever get it off
it probably would work, as long as its non-permanent. I used to work at a place that built servers to withstand a lot vibration and stress. They had this machine that would just shake it for 30 mins, the damn thing was loud; you could hear it anywhere on the production floor. We would check if the screws held after the testing. They usually did if the builder applied the thread locker incorrectly.

Anyway, it should hold. You would just need to apply more force to twist it off.

Beretta bros, If I remove the decocker lever wouldnt the safety just disable the bar so you can safety store cock & locked? why does no one do this, feel like im snorting crazy pills or something.

I have heard of people doing cocked and locked mods to the slide safety. Not sure how, or why, as if you want cocked and locked you have the wrong gun

The part of the lever that pushes the trigger bar and deactivates the trigger bar also has to be modified.

I ended up getting a Beretta 92gts with crappy Beretta owb holster, 2x18 round mags, 2x30 round mags for $700 out the door. The recoil rod spring is too weak on it so it doesn't return the slide fully and reset the trigger for double Action, but does fine on single action. I put a rubber gasket on it as spacer and fixes it. Any idea what higher power spring to put in it later?

If I had to buy new, I would take the Beretta, but a classic Sig P22x is the perfect handgun to me. They're both A-grade pistols, but the Beretta got a 98% and the Sig got 100%. Too bad the company went entirely to shit.

>DA doesn't activate with weak ammo.
Uhm think that through how many shots have been fired to have it be in DA mode.

i'm dry firing it. Slide is slightly too far back for hammer to reset on double action. If spring has a little more pressure with the spacer on it, it resets fine for dry firing practice.

It's right at the limit of where it resets. It won't reset like 5% of the time.
>>63900147
It's in battery. The slide is just fractions of a millimeter too far back for the trigger bar to engage the hammer. No burs or anything on it. It's literally sitting on the edge of engaging hammer. If spring has half a coil or little more power, slide goes far enough. I put a small rubber gasket at base of recoil rod to test it and trigger bar engages 100% of the time with the extra pressure.

They’re the oldest gun company on earth, they’ve existed as an entity for 500 years with invoices from the early 1500, making gun barrels for the Vatican.

Their breakout pistol the 92 is an upgrade of the 1951 both of which share lineage from the Walther P38.

It took them a while to get their gas operated shotgun to work, no one talks about the predecessors. Also Beretta literally owns Benelli, imagine just straight up owning your competition so that you can undercut them with an arguably better design.

Wops are seriously good at guns. Like, the Carcano isn't that great (not awful, but not great either), and some of the light machineguns of the Fascist era weren't too hot either. However, Spaghettimen have been quite damn good at pistols and subguns for a long time now, and also shotguns.

Even when you had Italian soldiers suffering with inconsistent 6.5mm ammo, Germans managing to get their hands on Italian pistols and subguns consistently had rather high opinions on them, the subguns especially were prized for their good handling, good magazines, and ease of shooting.
>"Wow, das ist VERY gut! This is better than the MP40 we have at home!"

Later after the war, they kept doing guns, and they got even better at it. Italy would settle on the US M1 rifle as their best option when rebuilding their army as a western ally, because they didn't really have many other options and it was honestly not bad for what it is.
Italian manufactured Grand Pingers are very high quality, if you're building one from surplus parts, then Breda and Beretta made receivers are extremely fine choices. Then we have the select-fire and magazine fed development of the M1, the BM59, which in some aspects (mind, not all), is the M14 done better.
