Wops are seriously good at guns. Like, the Carcano isn't that great (not awful, but not great either), and some of the light machineguns of the Fascist era weren't too hot either. However, Spaghettimen have been quite damn good at pistols and subguns for a long time now, and also shotguns.
Even when you had Italian soldiers suffering with inconsistent 6.5mm ammo, Germans managing to get their hands on Italian pistols and subguns consistently had rather high opinions on them, the subguns especially were prized for their good handling, good magazines, and ease of shooting.
>"Wow, das ist VERY gut! This is better than the MP40 we have at home!"
Later after the war, they kept doing guns, and they got even better at it. Italy would settle on the US M1 rifle as their best option when rebuilding their army as a western ally, because they didn't really have many other options and it was honestly not bad for what it is.
Italian manufactured Grand Pingers are very high quality, if you're building one from surplus parts, then Breda and Beretta made receivers are extremely fine choices. Then we have the select-fire and magazine fed development of the M1, the BM59, which in some aspects (mind, not all), is the M14 done better.
