Gripen is quickly becoming the jet of choice for South America.

This is what happens when you share technology and allow others to set up their own production lines.

This is our cold revenge for how General Motors gutted and fucked Saab Automobile like a pig.

Canada soon.

The Gripen would fall under the major European Union Rearm programme which could help sway away from non Euro options that aren't the US (alongside delevoping further ties with Euro industry). I have no idea what they'll eventually go with but perhaps a mix of US-Euro aircraft

The time and resource needed for the conversion would be equally as high as building a new aircraft from scratch. By the time it's ready, it will no longer be relevant.

Peru is already in the process of acquiring Korean jets and Canada likely will as well. Peru already signed a contract to start making parts for the KF21 too.

Swedish news leaked earlier today that Peru has decided on 2 batches of Gripen E/F for a total of 24 aircraft and the deal is expected to be finalised and made public in July for a total of $3,5 billion.

In what regard?
Gripen E has 50% more combat range, 40% more ferry range, can carry similar payload, cheaper and easier to maintain and is a proven platform.

>In what regard?
Size, Range, MTOW
>Gripen E has 50% more combat range, 40% more ferry range
KF-21 has a combat radius of 620 nm which is greater than Gripen's 490 nm.
>can carry similar payload
KF-21 has a maximum payload capacity of 7,700 kilograms (17,000 lbs), which is greater than Gripen's 5,300 kg (11,684 lbs).
>cheaper and easier to maintain
Is an objective goal, but KAI has been implementing F-16 like interfaces since FA-50 which allows the maintenance crews of both aircraft almost interoperable.
>is a proven platform
So is KF-21 that has been flying for years now and just given a mass production order last year.
Also, the stealthy appearance gives it an advantage in A2A combat.

I'm sorry I forgot to add that the latest JAS-39E can carry a maximum payload of 7,200 kg (15,900 lb), which doesn't change the fact that it flies less with less load.

You are fudging them because you are dishonest.
You are comparing the KF-21's combat range to the Gripen E/F's combat AIR PATROL range and acting like they are the same thing.

I'm comparing a combat radius to a combat range. A range doesn't count a return trip to the base.
>Have fun with your Temu F-35.
ROKAF already operates 39 F-35. Temu F-35 is a truly fitting name considering it's role as an affordable replacement for aging F-4/F-5 fleets.

The situation in canada is legit dire.
Like no joke, the only way to realistically fix the canadian military to be ready for any war is to spend like 10% of their gdp for a couple years.
Or use all their imported jeets as slaves to rebuild all their barracks.

Yeah, no.
The FA-50 has defeated the gripen in Poland, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The presence of American parts is clearly not the limiting factor here.
The gripen suffers from an identity crisis where it's basically in between a light and medium fighter and so is too expensive for a light fighter and doesn't have the specs to be a proper medium fighter. The only selling point is its cost effectiveness which the FA-50 has beat.
And funnily enough, the success of the gripen (not even confirmed) is more likely due to Brazil's involvement and has nothing to do with the jet itself or saab.

Colombia and Peru will most likely get the BR variant, which still uses the American engine, but with other parts being replaced with BR parts.

Might as well even be made in Brazil since they're about to finish the first units there.

That inforgraphic is terribly outdated and largely irrelevant.

And judging by what I've seen, it seems like a big mystery where the planes will be built.
Basic logic would suggest South American countries would buy jets made in South America, but in the last few days SAAB has been making statements about ramping up production in Sweden, so who knows where the planes will be built, or which variants Columbia and Peru will end up buying.

you realize that embraer who is building the jets in brazil have not yet produced a single complete gripen and are heavily reliant on swedish help?

it makes a lot more sense to just scale up production where the expertise and resources are already at.
