Reloading cuts the price right down, Cam-Pro 458 bullets are like 40 cents, powder charge can be like 70 cents for IMR 3031, magnum primers are like 25 cents. Brass is pricey but not bad for a true big bore, found some for under $4/piece.

But if you want a cheap taste of the big bores get a 9.3x62. Rifles are like $4-500 and factory ammo can be found for less than $60/box. Technically the 9.3 isn't a big bore, but it's the lowest legal dangerous game caliber in several countries.

9.3 is also probably a more useful North American game cartridge. I would use it on basically any large animal in the country up to and including polar bears.

Easiest thing to do is just get Vortex rings for a Vortex scope; ring size is determined by the scope so figure that out first. Go for the lighter rifle because the accuracy difference will be negligible for your purposes. Muzzle brake may not be necessary and adds weight and cost so shoot the gun first before deciding on whether or not to buy one.
