Shut the fuck up. Sig Sauer doesn't deserve the rifle contract, they don't deserve the pistol contract either, I'd give them the ammo contract but they've gotten so many goddamn military contracts that it's suspicious as fuck, especially with the recent issues of their guns going off on their own (and don't try to deny it, it's been documented). We're right to notice, and we're right to call it the fuck out, especially with the pretty frequent complaints from the troops.

I didn't say it was. But OAL was a requirement and being good wasn't. If they cared about anything that matters, they would have ended up with the M27 (possibly a lightened version, it could easily shed a pound without affecting performance or reliability) and polymer case M855A1.

When WW3 happens evey military personal is gonna go back to their trusty M4 cause Russia and China are gonna be so close to America service men they can understand the English spoken at the front line
Why does the M7 suck at CQB? Because China and Russia are not gonna let America be out of 500 meters range of the front line
So, Russia and China are gonna keep pushing?
Yes! Look at a map and notice how much less Russia has to go to conquer Europe than America has to conquer Russia
How are we gonna shoot and scute with our M7 rifles WHEN WE HAVE NO LAND LEFT TO RUN TO??!!
M4s are the future
If you want a Sig in American serviceman hands, then give them the Sig MCX Spear Lt 5.56
You'll have your Sig, and you will have a better weapon than the M7 for WW3

Yeah I know, it's just that i wish that the performance requirements didnt come at that cost. It's gonna be a pain in the ass to deal with and will probably cost a pretty penny over its lifetime even if they offered the army a good deal on the rifles themselves and didn't just throw a bunch of bribe money, fancy dinners and well paying job prospects at the people running the program. It really feels like the RM277 shoulda won or that we ought to have stuck with the M-4 given everything that's been coming out.

It wouldn't have and that woulda been fine. Not only did Sig have the pistol contract (not that they should've in my opinion)and a number of ammo contracts but their civilian firearms like the MCX and P365 sell like hot cakes. They would still make a huge profit at the end of the year and the US would've not only kept a diversified supply chain (which is good because you don't want a single point of failure for your rifles, pistols and amminition all; if the company's QC goes down now all of those are suffering for it rather than one aspect), but also encourage research and development as well as domestic industry and healthy competition.
I don't really give a fuck about the Israeli/Jew connection gonna be real. The Israelis have their own firearms industrial sector so I don't think they particularly give a shit regarding that.

You should read about people's actual experiences with the RM277. It's genuinely a piece of shit, significantly less accurate than even the Sig. The Textron was the obvious choice, but Textron lost interest when the Army told them they were't going to lease a fucking rifle.

Russia will gain initiative when America shoot and scute with their drones, all Russia will have to do is keep advancing when there is no frontlines to stop them

Post Soviet Materialism and manufacture won't be stopped by American drones, M7s, and punitive new tactics when the Russian Red horde pushes America's forces out of Europe
The drone, and M7 fad won't beat historic doctrine and strategy

Russia is playing a game of go (a Chinese board game where you attempt to conqueror land, and place your foe in the smallest place possible)
While America thinks in terms of Chess when they are on the smallest part of the European Peninsula

I mean it was a clearly flawed rifle and wasn't as good as a Mauser or Lee despite having a sick magazine design. Still, calling the Krag a bad gun is some nogunz historylet retardation, but ARfags are desperate to force a parallel to make their gun look perfect. If anything the M4 is in the same place as the M1/2 carbine in the 50s, it's not gonna have a comeback but there will be a new rifle that follows its philosophy of maximizing effectiveness while minimizing weight

No, I thought it was stupid from the beginning and many of the requirements were completely impractical and unnecessary.

So seeing the only Jewish state turn half the world against it while it wipes out an enclave of Muslims that lives off western gibs and undermines Iran is win win for me. Only issue I have is that our own politicians bow to their demands.

Indeed, if someone pitched the SIG XM7 or the P320 to the IDF and IMI they'd get laughed at and told to go back home. Besides Uncle Sam flips the bill for their military so they don't need to make retarded budget cuts or even reasonable budget cuts.
On another note holy crackers what a waste the military contract P320's were as well, it would have been cheaper just to give armories a bulk orders of spare Beretta parts oh but that wouldn't be 'cool' 'futuristic' and 'modular' or whatever retarded meaningless buzzwords these committees come up with to justify wasting tax dollars on automatic leg hole punchers and castration devices. Either that or just give everyone Glocks or M&P's at that point.

Funny thing about that, half of those artillery shells they're turning into knives were originally lobbed at them during Mao's many failed attempts to forcefully re-integrate the island under the CCP out of absolute bitter spite. Wanna know what's even funnier? Half of those knives are sold back to the mainland every year thus bolstering their economy.

If you're a chink and all of a sudden people are getting shot in the plate and dying, how big of a morale hit is that?
Is it true overmatch that's worth ditching the advantages of the M4?

M14 doesn't quite work because it was an attempt at sticking with battle rifles when assault rifles had already proved superior. There's an M14 mindset in the XM7 though.

The Krag REALLY doesn't work because it very much was a concrete upgrade compared to the rifles in previous service, and it wasn't even half bad, rather a mix of the design of the rifle and the less than perfect metallurgy (the same problem haunting very early Springfields, subpar heat treating), doomed it when the army decided that it wanted a Mauser like everyone else.
When they were eventually surplused, they became quite beloved as hunting rifles in civilian life.

>>63945032
Reising doesn't work either, it was brought in as a stopgap to outfit the Marines with SOME kind of subgun, just because the Army had dibs on all the Thompsons and the Navy had no other options.
Far from perfect, but the idea was probably that it'd be better than no subgun at all.

>>63946090
Hilariously, this is undone by he catastrophically loud XM7 needing a suppressor which makes it basically as long as a full length rifle anyway. MWAH MWAH.

>an attempt at sticking with battle rifles when assault rifles had already proved superior.
That sounds exactly like the M7 (nรฉe XM7, nรฉe XM5)โ€”the excuse is different, but a battle rifle is a battle rifle and none of the practical realities that favor assault rifles for general service have changed.
>The Krag REALLY doesn't work because
The Krag is notoriously one of, if not *the*, shortest-serving US Army general-issue rifles ever. Her technical merits are basically irrelevant. Also "less than perfect metallurgy" is a period-correct stand-in for whatever Sig-Saar clusterfuck the M7 suffers that we haven't heard about yet.

>The RM277 had a stupid open/closed bolt switch that no one asked for
It's a good idea if you're submitting basically the same gun for the NGSW-R and NGSW-AR, and frankly it's a good idea in generalโ€”the ideal assault rifle shoots from a closed bolt when it's pretending to be a rifle and an open bolt when it's pretending to be an LMG.

130 years from now, people might praise the M7 as being ahead of its time. That doesn't do anyone any good now, though.

You're right about everything else but is this really a problem if you plan on issuing cans anyways?

Krag > Springfield btw

The AR wasn't identical, it had a different barrel, and also there's no evidence that open bolt would have been beneficial for it. The M27 is closed bolt and doesn't have cookoff problems, and polymer cases transfer less heat to the chamber as well as preventing heat from reaching the propellant from the chamber.

Almost. The M14 was the insistence to not go forward, while the XM7 is an attempt at going backwards after we've already gone forwards for a very long time.

U.S Krag Rifles weren't stronk enough to handle the hotrodding they wanted to do to try to match the range of 7.92mm Mauser, which is not a problem if you're just sticking to the normal .30-40 U.S Krag load that it was originally built around, it'll last just fine if you do that. That's why American Krags lived a century as hunting rifles just alright, and also why original Norwegian Krags actually handled 6.5mm Swedish and 7.92mm Mauser just fine, their metallurgy was better.

Springfield's metallurgy at the time was just good enough for what the U.S Krag was originally meant to be. Not as good as it should have been, and eventually they fixed that with the Springfield 1903, but it was good enough to work with.
Sig Saar's metallurgy today is the least of their problems, rather theirs is sketchy mechanical design and hilariously bad quality control, before we even factor in the bullshit circus that is the NGSW as a concept.

I fucking bet, it's a 6.8mm Short Magnum, the suppressor is mainly there to reign in the roaring blast from such a high pressure round with such a short barrel.

Quite tubes should be deployed with 300BLK carbines or given to dudes guarding fortified fixed positions so it doesn't matter how long and heavy they are and at that point you might as well have them next to an armory of LMG's and precision rifles at that point.

honestly, as an early 1900 design for a military rifle, its shit (yes i know its from the 1800's, but it was still used long after)
its simply not fit for the more modern wars it started to be pushed into, the ingresses of dirt kill it too easily
other than that, fucking great rifle, super buttery smooth, i love both of mine
