>>63960142Ukraine has been trying pretty hard to not alienate the Chinese government, the countries actually had pretty good relations before Russia invaded. Its why they humored the Chinese peace plan despite it obviously not going anywhere (it being dead in the water made it safer to actually entertain), trying to help China build international soft power as a negotiator. The Ukrainians really dont want the Chinese to go all in on Russian support, but they are likely in denial about China having already made that decision years ago. Being cold and calculating and self serving is expected in international relations but a lot of smaller countries just seem to be constantly blindsided by how ruthless the Chinese are behind the curtain.
Makes you wonder how freaked out the Kremlin has to be getting about how far the Russian economy is sliding into China's orbit, Chinese domestic brands have quietly replaced Russian ones throughout the economy over the last few years as domestic manufacturing has pivoted to the war economy. If you take a longer view of the war (and the dozen other wars Russia has been in over the last 30 years) its really been a slow motion civil war over the corpse of the USSR that is increasingly becoming a proxy conflict between external players, it really makes the whole sovereignty of Russia in a multipolar world angle Putin is pushing look like a fucking retarded delusion.
