Forward assist - 100% top brass meddling that is made irrelevant by rack, tap, bang procedure. However it does do what it's supposed to do, isn't very obtrusive and adds negligible weight. Commercial options exist to remove it so it's a nonissue to us regular folk.
Now if you said something like carbon fouling shitting all over the innards of the receiver you would have a point. But your complaints indicate you don't shoot enough to have a reasonable argument.
