This event occupies a unsatisfying middle ground for me.
On one hand, there has clearly been effort put into this. The hunting minigame, the logs, the log artwork. The skins look decent while still being recognisable as the hero.
On the other hand, the fact that effort is present makes me think of the stuff that could have been in the game if they gave more of a shit. The hero choices for skins kinda disappointing. I'd much rather have a nercylla broodmother, or even drow ranger over fukin' sniper. Where's my primal beast/deviljho arcana!? The skin variations aren't based on in-game monster variants which is annoying. e.g: the windranger zinogre armour doesn't have a Stygian variant, the kirin armour doesn't have a orochi kirin scheme. The rathalos skin behind a paywall is a dick move, and said rathalos skin not changing forms based off facet is such a wasted opportunity. You've already ported the barioth model in and made him fly around, would it really be that difficult to attach that to the dk skin for ice and rathian for poison? Shit, go crazy and port in gore magala for the black dragon and espanias for the green dragon, the models are there!
Idk man, this event seems to be geared towards catering to casual fans while veteran fans are left to be disappointed by what we got. Par for the course for the franchise at this point.
