>Been looking into 68p for the Army, I've search that this is one of those unicorn mos that rarely popup, but I want to know it it's pretty much the same time frame going to CC for the associates degree, and if they still have their accreditation cause I've not gotten a clear answer if it they lost the accreditation or not

From my brief search, you still need accreditation with the ARRT to work civilian, but your coursework may be usable for an associate's degree, and you will be somewhat prepared for the ARRT exams through your AIT. I wish I had stronger answers for you.

Maybe a silly question. I hear a lot of guys saying recruiters lie to them, why is this? I get that their job is to get as many people in the military as possible but its kinda scummy. Or is it that the guys just misinterpreted what was told?

This
>>64060429
And also remember that tons of young people take on incredible amounts of student loan debt and get way in over their heads with it even after decades of other young people dealing with the same issues paying them off. Young people are generally stupid.
The real problem isn't just recruiters lying, it's that recruiters take advantage of that stupidity to get that many 18-20 year old guys to join up.

I'm an immigrant to Fr*nce who is seriously thinking about joining the Foreign Legion. I still don't have citizenship because in the 11 years that I was here I was (and am) lazy, depressed and demotivated, leeching off welfare and parents. I'm turning 29 soon and want this to stop before my parents kick me out of the house.
I am decently fit, can handle stress (due to being dead inside from childhood abuse) and ready to leave my lifestyle behind since it's really just purposeless wasting of time anyway. I also got an entry-level IT technician certificate.
What do you guys think? My parents support my decision (of course they do) and it would probably only take 2-3 months for me to get in shape since I already have a headstart. My other option is to keep trying to find a job, but I live outside of the city and don't have a driving license, in the past 2 years I found absolutely nothing, not even fucking Mcdonalds wants me. I don't have the money to pay for one either since I give 90% of my welfare check to my parents.

Apologies for the late response.

Yes. I've been to a few selections and interviewed with one of them. Biggest thing is do not self-select before you get there. I have friends that have been to these selections, interviewed, some were picked up and some were not. The biggest thing is they were not sitting there doubting themselves before they got there. The quality I found most in common and was told by the people I interviewed with was that they want people intrinsically motivated. The people I know who've attended these were usually some of the best (not hooah but the smartest, driven to do a good job, and overall people you'd like to have on your team) at their units but were hungry for more important work, more knowledge, and more autonomy, Most of these units will have requirements such as a minimum age of 20, 4 years TIS, and E-4 or E-4(P). Sometimes it changes but you should expect to get to your unit and start looking at getting promoted and doing a good job there before applying. But if you meet the minimum requirements stated from them and feel that you're ready to attend a selection or interview; just do it. You don't know what bullshit will pop up 6 months from then and now all of a sudden you've got a kid being born, deployment coming up or whatever else happens.

Now, I've seen people go to these units from INSCOM and from USASOC. Usually though people coming from USASOC want to be more "operator" or direct support vs. being purely an enabler (nerd) in a SCIF for a higher tier unit. On top of that, if you go somewhere like INSCOM, you will be surrounded by unmotivated people who consistently fail ACFT's, and are not prepared to serve in any environment outside of the NSA whatsoever. They're also autistic and not enjoyable to be around.

So, apart from being a good dude that you'd like to have on your team as your #1 goal, I would strongly advise you to get airborne in your contract as a 35N/P/S and get group as your first unit.

The majority of officers get out after 4 years. Plus, being in an armor unit genuinely blows ass and will continue to blow ass as long as there is geopolitical demand for American mechanized units to provide deterrence by rotating overseas. An enlisted intel weenie has better chances of having a cushy career plus opportunities to actually slide into a "real" job post-service (yes, even for dumb enlistoids).

The point of doing 20 is so you don't need a "real" job post-service. Get out O-5/O-6 and your income off the pension is higher than the US Median Wage and if you're not a retard you should have a few passive assets like rental units
If you were to rank things off just 4 years, you have to get rid of Aviators (10 year commitments) and the top bills are
>Air Force Intel Officer
>Army Intel Officer
>Navy Intel Officer
>Army Logistics Officer
>Space Force Enlisted Intel/Cyber
>Air Force Enlisted Intel/Cyber
>Marine Corps Intel Officer
>Navy Enlisted Intel/Cyber
>Navy Supply Corps Officer
(Navy SuppO might be lower for 4 years only since its biggest benefit is the MBA at 8 years)
>Army Enlisted Intel/Cyber
>Marine Corps Enlisted/Cyber
>Everything else

>Culinary Specialist
SWO and Culinary Specialist are pretty ass for advancing an outside career and such inside, you're better off doing pretty much anything if you plan to do only 4

space force jobs all have good clearance and sit inside aircon spaces but i'd say most of the jobs are boring and repetitive, the problem is that every single satellite system operates very differently, there is no core "space ops" skillset, and with the modern ground systems satellites are becoming more automated with "lights off" ops where computers manage most things instead of operators on a watch floor, the cyber jobs are better for post-service employment options but at the service level they are going to be mostly network admin or defensive cyber tasks

also, the space force doesn't really know what to do with their enlisted, all the actual meaningful decisions and day to day operations are all handled by the officers and support contractors "flying the satellites"

I was an 18x. There were maybe twelve other 18x's and like thirty option 40's in my OSUT.

By the end of OSUT, eight of those 18x's lost their contract and became shit ass MOS like cooks or fuel guys.

I think one single guy made it to RASP, but I didn't really see their pipeline after mine.

The option 40 guy was prior enlisted, the other four 18x's that went on to airborne and selection with me were prior enlisted. Of the four guys that came with me, only two made it to SFAS.

The other two wouldn't have been completely fucked over because prior enlisted usually get treated much better, they also get a much shorter OSUT (I think it was like 6 weeks). But if I would have failed SFAS it would have meant going straight to the shittiest MOS's the Army has to offer. I had no choice because I was 28 when I enlisted, but if I was younger I would NEVER suggest doing an 18x or option 40. Enlist first, do a useful MOS like 68w or crypto, after you hit e4 drop your packet.

It is much harder to find the time to train for selection or RASP while you're in, I was in way better shape than most enlisted at SFAS. But you'll find out super quickly that physical prowess has fuck all to do with making it. And if you fail, you go straight back to your unit so you don't have to get fucked over by big Army.

Enlist in a useful MOS (not infantry), wait till e4, then drop a packet. Unless you are mature, hard as fuck, make friends really quick, kill it at land nav and became an eagle scout with knots and shit, there is zero reason to enlist straight to RASP.

Battalion isn't all it's cracked up to be. You get more respect at Benning, but it's still big Army bullshit. You get fun schools and actually get to train and shoot, but it's a brutal unit. SoF is where you start to get a glimpse of freedom, but I was a few years into my contract and already sick of it. Peace time combat arms is hell, even in special operations.

You typically have to be in A group for the entirety of OSUT, if you start falling out of rucks or runs they'll take you aside and start talking about it. If you're not an idiot, you'll *demand* to see someone about a reclass when that happens. You need to understand that every single thing you do from the day you step into reception is documented and monitored, if you're immature, if you don't have leadership qualities, if you aren't killing it in PT, if DS has to repeatedly tell you how to do shit, that information gets passed along. You can have perfect runs, perfect scores and they just don't like your attitude. A lot more guys get dropped from airborne than you'd think, and the preparation course is now like a mini selection, so I hear. Many guys kill it through OSUT but have bad luck, you need to understand that cadre is going to try everything in their power to drop 18x's if it means a prior enlisted guy needs their spot. If you do try, shoot for winter. There are much fewer guys and your chances of getting fucked over aren't as bad. At the end of the day, you have it or you don't. Don't ever buy "cadre fucked me", if you are good enough to be on teams, you will be on teams. I've seen guys sprain and ankle in a draw during land nav and still make it all the way through.

That's the good. The rest of the time it is the hardest job you will ever have in your life, you will have bosses who can legally torture you. You will be forced to shit in extremely uncomfortable positions for hours on end, be forced to exercise without sleep for days on end, have almost no personal freedom, can't leave the city you're in without permission, if you show up late for work your life is fucked, relationships will be almost impossible, you can have a 104° fever and find out your dad died and still have to show up for work, you will question your decision every single day.

Fuck what you "like". Choose a career amplifying job in the Army, or you will regret your decision for the rest of your life. 68w is always the best choice because medicine will always be a stable, high paying career once you get out.

The other options are ones with a security clearance that translate to alphabet agency work.

Do not, under any circumstances, do a job just because it sounds fun.

Army med student here, while 68W does not translate to practicing medicine in the civilian world, that experience can help a lot for admission to PA or Medical school afterwards as long as you know how to sell it. It is not an automatic admission, and medical school is very hard to get into and to succeed in, but if you are willing to put in the work to get in you have a high chance of graduation.

As an aside, I would STRONGLY suggest that you spend a lot of time thinking about a decision to pursue med school. When I was applying, I did not understand why doctors were so hesitant to endorse it as a career. As a 4th year student, I understand entirely. If you are determined, you will not be dissuaded but it is a very hard field, compensation is not what it used to be, and it is a largely thankless job. I threw away a large part of my youth for this career. If you just want money, look elsewhere. If you want respect, earn it somewhere else, and people don't actually idolize doctors anyways, especially now.

30 year old (not as) oldfag here
Kids, listen to your elders here. Do something with a clearance, something medical, or if you're an officer candidate consider aviation (set for life with the flight hours you get, you'll get paid while getting overqualified to be an FAA certified pilot and come out making 6 figures) and supply/logistics (use GI bill for MBA after you get out or stay in long enough to get the MBA while getting paid for, they do this around mid-career)
And if you're enlisted, USE YOUR FUCKING TUITION ASSISTANCE, get your CLEP/DSST credits and work towards finishing the degree as much as command will let you. FYI this is why the Navy sucks they don't give you tuition assistance immediately, and Marine Corps will also blueball you on how many credit hours you're allowed to take. Listen to this advice if you're 24 and younger and considering joining, you will be set by the time you're 30. If you are young and looking to make 20, don't fuck around and keep a clean record and good grades, do volunteer work and make good connections with supervisors to send an OCS (or better yet, ROTC if you can) and compete for aviation or supply. If you retire between 38 and 42 as an officer with either of those you can get into the double-dip earning the military pension and then earn an airline pension or a CFO pension on top of it.

>Did six years in the Air National Guard
>Used TA and his state's education program to get his bachelor's and master's from a state school
>Used GI Bill to get an MBA and another master's
>Bullshitted his way to 100% VA disability
>Signed up for VR&E and supposedly they reimbursed his GI Bill
>Is now doing a PhD in bullshit from diploma mill university
>Regularly tells me "I'm so fucking tired of school, but these motherfuckers won't stop paying me to do it"
He's my hero.

Also some other dude I vaguely knew used it for a farming program. He said it's basically the GI Bill, except it's not always approved, and you have to pretend the program you're doing is because you got injured in a way that would hamper your initial job ambitions. Like if your back is injured, they're not going to approve you for a construction program, if you're deaf they won't approve you as a court reporter, etc. This is all third-hand information, I might have gotten it wrong.

>>64108935
The Navy has a program (DPEP: https://www.navycs.com/dpep.html) that lets you start at up to E-6 depending on civilian experience. National Guard is your quickest and easiest bet to becoming a pilot in the military. Unless you can get into an academy, go through the normal college route for commission and speak with an officer recruiter. Coast Guard is also an option. Airforce isn't much harder, though. I've got friends in the local police. They pass up about 80-90% of applicants. One place is known to fail 60% of field trainees (who've already passed the academy). If you apply to a decent PD, all else being equal, there's a 5% chance or less you'll be there in 2 years. And if you fail out, it's on you forever. Of course, DEI up the ass. There are times when only women get to be hired.
I read a post once that it's easier to join the military than be a cop. No way.
Honestly, they don't know what the fuck they're doing when it comes to recruitment. They waste a lot of tight municipal funds. I'm not a cop hater, but I'm disgusted how incompetent and aelf-assured the whole thing is.

Not really. Anon is getting a bit emotional.
In peacetime you train and go to exercises and deploy to support non combat operations like Atlantic Resolve. Training can be anything from going to the range to multi week events at a national training center. You'll probably get cold and wet and dirty and sleep deprived at training events but that's about it, barring an accident or something.
Day to day in garrison you'll typically do PT in the morning and do some kind of training from 9 to somewhere around 3 to 5 in the afternoon. What specifically you do depends on the kind of unit you're in - at a mechanized unit you might go to the motor pool and work on Bradleys, at a light unit you'll probably go to the woodline and practice battle drills, etc.
A certain type of person will find all of this incredibly grating and complain about it non stop. Other kinds of people will enjoy it, or get very motivated by the idea of training to prevail in a possible future conflict with, say, China. There's no way to know what type you are until you're there, doing it.

Reminder. Don’t go officer if you want just want the “Military Experience” and get out to collect your gibs

JOs are rode hard and put up wet. You’ll have your hand in the pocket of an E7+ enlisted crusty fuck telling you to fuck off and know your place. Your first 3+ years as a zero are literally learning how to be an officer and have almost nothing to do with your job. You will get treated like garbage and be the whipping boy of the officers mess/ward room and will suffer endless humiliation rituals for multiple years. You will not make any friends or network because nobody in the officer ranks wants to associate with someone who might get out and hasn’t fully committed to being a career man and you can’t fraternize with the enlisted outside of the E7+ and even they don’t want you in their club. You will be held to a strict as fuck standard not only because you are the FNG but also because you are an officer. Yes you will make more money and have better living accommodations. Consolation prize.

Meanwhile as enlisted, you get tasked with fuck off work that anyone can do, and you might have to stay around till 1630 on a Friday but the JOs are going to be there till 2000 writing “reports”. You get the same benefits getting out, you get to be friends with whoever you want below E7. You get to act like an animal because that’s expected of you. You are no longer the FNG after a single year of time in service. You have a lot more lateral mobility because you aren’t in a “pipeline”. If you are good at your job you get a lot more leeway because your peers are uneducated retards and you only need to be not retarded. Once you hit E5, which is totallly doable in a single enlistment, you get to move into a party house with all your bros and act like said animals. And even if you aren’t great at your job you just have to show up with a nice uniform and be able to do PT.

Yes, if you want to make it a career, officer is vastly superior.

Pretend you're me.

I finished 4 years of NJROTC in high school. On one side, I want to join the Army because Infantryman sounds fun, and my father and grandfather were prior Army Infantryman. But then again there's no real skills I can carry over to Civilian life (unless any of you have options I'm not aware of.)

On the other hand, with the NJROTC I can jump to an E3, with higher pay, but then I don't know if I'm going to like it. Seems somewhat comfy but also sounds incredibly boring.

My other option is to maybe skip infantryman entirely and maybe go Cyber Operations for either Army or Navy. Guide my future PLEASE!

This sounds like it was written by a mediocre junior officer who underperformed and got butthurt when his eval reflected that.
You can absolutely be respected as a lieutenant. Your PSG is not just there to bully you or let you pretend you run the platoon while he does all the real work. All it takes is knowing how your authority works, where you derive it from, and how to wield it to accomplish the mission and improve the organization... rather than as a cudgel or like it's your divine birthright or some shit. I've met some 2LTs who I would follow into a fucking burning building, because they knew how their own authority worked and how to genuinely earn respect from their men besides.
You too can be such an officer. Whether we prevail in a future conflict or do not may largely depend on whether we have enough of such officers. It just takes a little more understanding and a little more effort than assuming things will work a certain way or another solely due to rank alone.

In terms of quality of life, Navy cyber (or CTR) probably outranks Army infantry (when shorebound and not on a ship). Whether doing that is more appealing than being combat arms in peacetime is up to you. If you go cyber you will undoubtedly make a lot more money than if you do infantry, but up to you.
Having done both infantry and intel in the Army, I can't say one was vastly superior to the other. I enjoyed both for different reasons, and would do both if I could. You have to choose one or the other, somehow.
I'd recommend watching some gopro footage from Army training events like live fires or CTC rotations for a glimpse of what that life looks like. You can also (may Allah forgive me for recommending this) check reddit for specific info about different units and rates for both Army and Navy.

What kind of cope is this? Youre crying because as an officer you cant be an alcoholic shitbag without Major handing your ass to you?
Brother you went to college that was your time to be a shitbag, you don't get to continue that lifestyle in the professional world after you graduate, you don't even really get to if you go to grad school either. At a certain point you get expectations put on you to act like an adult. Sorry if Chief is telling you to not act like a highschool dropout like the lower enlisted act, but maybe your peers would talk to you and rake you seriously if you held yourself to some standards.
Sounds like you're the Ensign/2nd Lt nobody wants to be around that'll barely make O2 by the end of your obligation instead of pinning O3 by that time

I was a one-and-done O1+O2 and had the opposite experience. All the JO’s got maximum exposure to fieldwork and hands-on mission execution. I had unlimited responsibility and was able to sign myself up for trainings and “fun” quals without anyone’s permission, and generally had freedom to figure out how to get results and solve problems myself.
I would have been bored to death if I stayed in for 20.

I got along great with senior enlisted as well and didn’t have to do anything special or intentional, just don’t be a dick and be competent and everything else will work out.

I have idiopathic thoracic scoliosis. I forgot my specific curvature but it is somewhere around 20 to 25, but it should be below the 30 degree limit set by the Air Force/military. I just don't want go through the hassle of going to the doctor because the way they measure curvature is wildly inconsistent.

What rank is the same on the officer pay scale?
Anonymous No.64129214 [Report] >>64129365

This is public information, but a very good moment to derail off-topic discussion and reinforce why commissioning is the best path.

Soonest you can make E-9 is at Over 10 years, with your monthly basic pay being 6657.30. You exceed that as soon as you hit O-3, which at Over 4 years of service puts you at 7112.40. So you could either be a hell of an enlisted man and a statistical anomaly and, having enlisted at 18, hit E-9 right before you get to 30 years old, or you could just be a regular college grad and make guaranteed O-3 after 4 years of service by the time you are 26.

On my ship there was definitely a huge rift between reactor and the rest of the navy. Openly hostile at times. It stems from the fact that supply would never give us anything, and engineering would fuck us over at every turn. There were a few times where physical fights broke out between reactor and engineering.

Even officers get involved in silly billy situations
>Have you heard the tale of David "Da Stroker" Hale? He was a general officer serving in Turkey. He had four Colonels who worked for him. He was fond of sending them TDY so he could entertain their wives. He even went as far as sending himself and the chosen wife TDY to nice spots on the Aegean Sea and coastal Italy and France. The premise was that they would pleasure him and he would advance their husband's career. Dude was hungry. He didn't settle for one or two wives. He had to have all four. Hella greedy. But was only reduced one rank. He was the second general officer to be court martialed since the UCMJ was enacted. He was the first general officer recalled from retirement to face a court martial.
