Defense against Cryptids and Hunting Cryptids
What are the best way to defend against Skunk apes, moth men, Grey Aliens, or
The Bayou Rougarou ?
These things terrify me in the oak hammocks and deep swamps of the south.

.308 is a good balance between capacity and firepower, as it’s a full rifle round but plenty of battle rifles with 20 rounders run it. AK and AR would be better as they have higher capacity and decent firepower. Especially longer barreled ARs, 16-20”

Makes sense, but mainly the utility of the assault rifles is that even if it doesn’t take it out in one hit, the recoil is light enough and capacity high enough that you can hose that motherfucker down till he drops or at least buys you enough time to get outta there

Deescalation. They hate ir lights and motion lights.
I know someone who shot a 12ft 3 times center mass with 30-06, and it ran off, so if you've absolutely got to shoot, don't miss, and go for the throat or T zone. Keep in mind they are never alone, very fast, and they can throw basketball sized boulders with accuracy about 130yds.
Deescalation is the best defense. But I usually carry 30 caliber of some kind for the extra penetration. Dogs provide early warning, but they will target them first.

Depending on which legend you believe is true it may or may not be corporeal, so if it isn't corporeal then fighting it with conventional weapons is not possible.
In either case, it is said to be demonic in nature. So holy water, crucifixes, and cold forged iron are what you want with you. It also wouldn't hurt to know some Latin prayers, although they won't help you without faith.
Guns and knives likely won't help you much.

A lot of these unknowns are interdimensional in nature, sometimes showing physical properties and other times being non corporeal. Anything that can do that is questionable on being killed since you don't know if it technically is even alive.
Really the best advice is "don't go looking for it." You draw attention to yourself and you might find something you can't get rid of.

Multiple witnesses, we know what we saw. I'd have a hard time believing it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Aliens and ghosts and sasquatch and shit are a bunch of bullshit. Skunk ape is real.

They can trap you in something that appears to be a pocket of orthogonal time. Always carry a compass, they generate an intense magnetic field and the needle will start to track them if they are close but invisible. Also, if your batteries suddenly go dry, there is a cryptid nearby in invisible form.

This all happened about a year after my moms roommate went schitzo and was kicked out of the house. She was some kind of navy officer according to muh mudda. Athens georgia was weird as fuck in the 90s. I saw a man turn into a bear in the woods near the canadian border, but we were all smoking weed so whatever.

>What are the best way to defend against Skunk apes, moth men, Grey Aliens, or The Bayou Rougarou?
Please don't hurt the skunk apes/swamp apes. They look scary but they're pretty chill. They help with the invasive hog problem down here.
As for the others, I'd say something like .308 or .30-06 should be more than fine, assuming they don't have supernatural abilities.
If that's the case, then either get your weapon blessed beforehand or make sure that it has seen combat (making it a tsukumogami and therefore capable of hurting a supernatural entity).
>These things terrify me in the oak hammocks and deep swamps of the south.
As long as you use common sense while in the forest and don't go looking for trouble, you'll be fine. Honestly the trailer-park meth heads are often scarier than the wildlife.
>What firearms and weapons do you use to protect yourself against these beast?
If I'm going derping around deep innawoods, I usually take one of the following: an old Romy AK, a PTR-91, or a Mossberg 500 loaded with alternating rock salt & 00 buckshot. It's always good to have a backup handgun too, but that's usually just for snakes.

Yes. Barring any supernatural abilities, both are essentially human-sized canines and could confidently be brought down by a flat-shooting deer cartridge like .270.
>30 for Rougarou
Again, it's a big wolf. While I would admittedly prefer something like an AK if I came face to face with a Loup Garou, I fail to see how a burst from an M2 wouldn't get the job done.
Again, to be fair, this is assuming that they don't have spoopy powers. In that case, I'd want my rifle and ammo to have been blessed with holy water.

They’re the same God damn thing. People pretending they’re not are casuals or turbo autists on par with biologists that want to make their mark by classifying a new species by isolating specific genetic lines of the same fucking animal instead of doing actual field work to find something new.
>Oh these taxidermy specimens of Three Fingered Bats have reddish tinted fur in the southern most region of its native range. Now I’m renaming it the Turbofaggots Three Fingered Bat! I’m a scientist!
The same caliber will work for both. Silver content in ammo matters above all else when we’re talking about intermediate caliber and above because the ballistics of pure silver are shit. Silver jacketed lead core is the way to go. Yes an AK is probably the best weapon for this particular class of cryptid.

But anon they are different species. Dogmen are clearly derived from Canis lupus familiaris, while the Loup Garou and Bray Road Beast are more "primal" and wolflike in phenotype, more akin to Canis lupus or Canis latrans.

Borrowing this thread for a bit.
I need your advice, /k/. I'm working on a small unit tactics game (think xcom), except it's against cryptids and mythical creatures, among others.
But I'm struggling with how to design the enemies. It's boring if everything just dies to a burst of 7.62, so i want to implement mythological methods of dispatching them.
Like vampires requiring stakes, mortal weakness to sunlight, or using holy symbolism (and garlic) for defense, or wendigos needing to be set on fire and having their hearts destroyed.
Bigfoot being one of the ones that are perfectly killable with guns (alongside giants), offset by just being plain tanky and being able to hurl rocks like a man shaped catapult instead.
So give me ideas, /k/. What strange, mythological creatures do you want to hunt and what methods should they need?
