When was the last time an American handgun manufacturer released a cutting-edge product? Bonus, with notable usage outside of the USA? S&W has done nothing but chase Glock since the 90s, Springfield imported $300 Croatian pistols for an additional $200 fee, and Colt was being Colt. Ruger tried to modernize their DA/SA pistol with polymer, but the P-series was always a beast even by 80s standards, and they have since fallen to offering a confusing collection of striker fired and hammer fired pistols that all feel like glock triggers anyways. Kel Tec is obviously still innovating, but they have never had the quality to rise above "good for the price" status.

I love those fine old handmade guns from the great old makers like Le Page, Manton, Gastinne-Renette, Westley Richards, Kreighoff, etc. However, those are not everyman guns. Just as how the average American has something soulless like a glock or PSA AR, even the the golden days of handmade Euro quality the average person was walking around with a shitty Belgian or Spanish knockoff of a British or French design. The average gun of that era was much crappier than the average modern polymerslop.
