Same here, new at guns with a Glock17.
What I did:
- Get dummy rounds, exercise with them at home.
Train loading the magazine with the dummy round. NEVER with live rounds at home
Practice gun handling. Loading, unload, train different malfunctions and dryfire dryfire dryfire.
Watch the irons if you flinch, get a feeling for the trigger and the grip.
- Watch videos on how to grip a glock and the way to stand and aim.
You can train and get a feeling for gripping the gun at home in peace, check it out at the range and adjust at home in peace again
Try the different beavertails at home.
- Inbetween range sessions dryfire, dryfire, dryfire.
You will aim perfectly at the triggerpull without moving at home. As soon as you are at the range you will flinch like a motherfucker.
It is a mental thing which needs to be trained at home or else you are just throwing money down the range.
- At the range, just load 5 bullets at a time and single shot them slowly at close range. No need for 7 yards/meters and more.
Get consistence groupings first to make sure you are at least always aiming the same.
- Internet is your friend regarding properly handling, gripping aiming a glock. Inform yourself and see what might stick and help for you.
>t. 300-400 bullets into his Glock17 G5 and sloooowly getting better.
