The strike plate on most doors is installed with 1/2'' screws which means the only thing holding your door closed if someone kicks it is 1/2'' of pine trim. Go to a hardware store and get some 3 or 4'' deck screws. Those will reach the studs around the door frame and make your house much more secure.

The coating on pic related seems to have gone to shit in this color so maybe go with the green version or another good brand that has the same color. Also security strike plate. Moar screws moar better. Still pre-drill the holes and full depth. Should know how to pre-drill but if not, basically get a drill bit about the width of the shaft of the screw or slightly smaller. That means the shaft won't spread the wood out anywhere near as much and the screw threads should be nearly the only force being put on the wood. Wax, like candle wax or beeswax can also help screw threads go in smoother. Not sure how that trick is seen when it comes to building codes.

I say it humorously but the additional screws do spread that force out over a further distance along the stud; the longer strike plate is also harder to break off and probably has more resistance to not only twisting forces (look at it flat on and rotate) but also front to back forces like if being kicked in.
