I have a PX4 in .40 and I really don't care for the caliber... and getting the barrel/spring/mags for 9mm I may as well buy a fucking new PX4.
I think I'm just gunna trade it in for something SLIGHTLY less lorge, it's actually a nice feeling pistol but it's pretty fucking tall. I'm torn between a small semiauto of some type or a J-frame like a Bodyguard .38
ideally I just want the Jframe, and one of those Kydex trigger holsters, and a frame clip to just be as minimal as physically possible....

I moved. I used to be 20 minutes from probably the best gun range in CO. I moved to NC to be closer to my brother (also because CO sucks ass now, not the same state I grew up in) and there are no outdoor ranges closer than an hour (all of which have really shitty hours or require knowing someone to vouch for you to apply), and the only decent looking indoor range requires you to buy their targets at $1-3 ea, even for members. I don't have enough land to shoot on and there's 0 bpm out uere.

I took a while to come back
I will definitely get other guns for sure, but I think I will still be stubborn and at least try to find a HP that works
I do realize that I will have to be very selective and careful on what I do get
I’ll just have to see if I either can get an good deal on an exceptionally solid original or something close, or really lucky and get a working clone for super cheap
I was looking at that Springfield at first but seems like it definitely has some issues, I’ll have to find the perfect sweet spot of versions where it’s not too old nor too new, where gun manufacturing was still solid
and again I’ll definirely replace parts so that I can have an even higher chance of things working well
I just remembered looking at my local Cabelas and it had a cool FEG that used to be Lithuanian police, it’s probably long gone sadly
Most of the originals all seem overpriced to me though

Good evening. What's the consensus on .380 for dogs? I am torn between an LCR snub in .38 and a P-3at for a pocket/lazy carry gun. I'm mostly concerned about dogs in my area. I know Buffalo Bore makes a hardcast .380, but I'm wondering if it would be best to forego it in favor of a 38 +P hardcast
Also, a second totally unrelated question: is there any way to heal DIY stippling? I'm imagining some sort of negative mold that I can press the warmed plastic into. I was a retard and took a soldering iron to an heirloom a long time ago. Awesome texture, but it looks awful.

yeah just got it last week, put a few hundred rounds through it at the range to break it in and it handles like a dream, I've swapped it in as my new EDC and put my old auto ordinance .45 on the shelf after carrying it for 15 years. Today I got a CrossBreed Reckoning holster for it too to replace my old holster (still in the process of breaking it in, been wearing it all day). Really happy with this gun so far, just need to get some more magazines. Thinking Tripp cobras, just trying to decide between 9 or 10 rounders. I'm not realistically going to carry this thing with extra mags, so I'm ok with having the unwieldly long 10 rounders to just play with at the range.

japanese arms industry is heavily regulated, they make some sporting arms for Winchester. They had a few domestic modern designs but none for export or civilians
If they would be allowed to make handguns they quite possibly be some of the best judging by the autism of their airsoft and replica handgun industry, despite their historic inability to make any good designs.

Highly doubt that they need more firepower than a 5 shot Model 10 clone to handle a wayward asshole who got fleeced in a gacha mobile game and is taking out his anger on schoolgirls.
And even if the cops wanted to upgrade, they can look to Glock, HK, Beretta, Walther, S&W, etc. for offers
>Military
The JSDF selected the VP9, case closed
So essentially you would need a 2A for Japan in order for any need to open up small arms outside of supplying domestic rifles for the JDSF.

my extremely vague and likely incorrect understanding of it from various things I heard a long time ago and probably half forgot or conflated is something along the lines of; natural resources and when they were introduced to firearms
1. natural resources; they don't fold katanas 6million times for fun, but out of necessity, iron or was historically rare and low quality in japan, i vaguely recall some historical anecdote about how after fires in their 'medieval' period, there would be mass looting of nails (after all the wood/paper houses burned down).
2. domestic firearms industry; other than WW2, which was out of force of necessity, and famous for stinkers like the nambu, they just imported stuff most of the time I think; like when they first met the portugese, or post WW2, my understanding is that the vast majority of japanese wielded firearms over time have been foreign imports. I don't think they have much of their own domestic firearms industry, and prohibitive cost of in-house RnD'ing good shit. They made some stuff, and most of it wasn't great. because the industry didn't have generations to develop. Also since there is barely a civilian market; why bother in the "modern age" to build up that industry?
that all being said, I think it's a missed business opportunity, although there's probably less than 10 people in japan who would be interested, if someone decided to start making and selling berettas or 1911s or whatever handmade by some japanese blacksmith with a million folds or some shit, I'm pretty sure there'd be plenty of americans happy to drop 4-5 grand for one

It's essentially a Gen 5 with a lot of Gen 1 cosmetics.
The grip is slippery, I dislike the small magazine release button, and the trigger feels about the same but the Gen 5 I think is a little bit better.
Overall you're better off getting the Gen 5 with all the bells and whistles when you can

>pistol empties, Jesse retreats to grab Neil's
>comically impotent exchange of fire continues until Jesse's skill returns inexplicably for him to hit Casey in the forehead

Yes. If you can't shoot a gun with a crappy trigger like a stock Glock well, you suck and it's not the gun's fault. A magnificent glass break custom 1911 trigger is completely unnecessary and even counterproductive for anything but a range toy, and range toys are vibes guns. You wouldn't put a glassy light custom trigger in a duty or carry gun like a strikerslop compact even if you could, because it would be stupid to do so.
1911s are vibes guns, not relevant weapons, for the same reason that a 1960s E type is a vibes car, not a relevant performance car.

Got 3 different JD single barrel BP ryes, doing a side by side and admiring how they can all be so strangely different despite having the same juice put in the same oak barrels. Newest one on the left taste like a lemon pound cake, middle taste like red laffy taffy, then after a punch of burn it fades into maple syrup, right one is the most strange. It hits you with this nice sweetness that just disappears a half second after you drink it and takes all the flavor and alcohol burn with it. Would make a hell of a shot, sips like water after the first half second, but falls kinda flat after the other two.

A European design, the Glock 86 was designed before the Great War by an artificial intelligence named after Gaston Glock, the company's founder and most influential engineer. It is a large energy handgun, shooting a small bolt of superheated plasma generated in its magnetic housing chamber, using an internal power cell rechargeable with small energy cells. The chamber can be realigned to reduce drain on the internal energy cell and double capacity

I edc a FN 509c and have 15-16k rounds though it, I own and like my Walther PDP but probably only have 2k rounds through it, and I have shot the M&P 2.0 a lot.
They all are good, the FN is nice since the compact model comes with 3 sizes of mags which allow you to switch it from subcompact to compact to full size depending on how you are dressing that day. It has the best finish and ergos of the three, it glues your hand to the gun allowing for way faster follow up shots than the others you mentioned. The finish is so good one guy dumped his in a lake and fished it up with a magnet a year later and the only rust was on the internals.
The PDP far and away has the best stock trigger of the bunch, and you get one free optics plate of whatever footprint you want with it. It does have a snappier recoil which makes it slower to shoot, and the warranty sucked when I had a bum mag. The mags are VERY nice to load compared to the FN but especially the Smith which are legendary for having overly stiff mags.
The Smith is probably the cheapest of the three right at this moment, and has the best aftermarket. Their customer service also has a much better rep than FN or Walther, but you're more likely to need it since they can't qc for shit.
All three are good, call around and find a rental range near you that has them and offers flat fee with infinite swaps and shoot a couple mags through each. Find what YOU shoot best.

Rather than talking about what ammo is good, it would be a more fun conversation to talk about what ammo we've had bad experiences with.
For me, it would be the "Norma" (it's actually made in Hungary by GECO, who just label it Norma) MHP ("Monolithic Hollow Point") which gave me huge point of impact shift, even at just 7-8 yards. It also ran incredibly dirty, ejected weakly, and smelled really weird, like a sugary syrup.

Worst handgun ammo expirences I've had was BPS and Turan ammo, both of which are turkish. Feeding issues from having the wrong size case, primers that were seated too deep to fire, ect. Just real butt ass poopy ammo. I've also had double charges with fiocchi and light strikes as well, although my 509 was able to run it without light striking. The 380 AAC ammo I got for my BG 2.0 is also light striking every mag, but it was like 8cpr cheaper than any other 380 on the market so you get what you pay for.
Worst ammo expirences in general was with some Argentinian 7mm surplus ammo, it had a hang fire like every 20th shot, and a dud primer every 10 shots or so. I think my buddy said he got like 20k rounds for 7cpr tho so he didn't give a shit.

Csx is metal frame and SAO which some folks prefer. The mags were also easier to load than shield plus mags. That's about where the pros end as far as I'm concerned.
The shield plus handles recoil better and I honestly believe has a better trigger as strange as that may sound given it's a striker. The csx was snappier despite the metal frame, but that may just have had to do with how little texture there is on the frame. Microcompacts are always going to jump more in your hands because there is just less gun to distribute the recoil. The shield plus has some pretty aggressive texture in the front and back of the grip to help you handle that. The CSX only has a tiny bit of it just at the very back. The CSX's slide release and mag release are both much stiffer and harder to actuate than the shield plus which matters more if you're planning on shooting it with older relatives or girlfriends.

What is with my LCP Max shooting several inches low no matter what? Are there any aftermarket lower front sights or higher rear?

The most prolific radian ramjet poster (or was it an afterburner?) was a gay guy who posted his boyfriend a few times and was caught lying about group size/distance.
A lot of people swear by comps and ports, I used to too, then I decided to get better at shooting and then saw no need for a ported 9mm which just makes more noise and arguably makes the gun more dangerous to the user.

I hate this guy but his short on spalling/shrapnel from ports is good. This is about ported barrels where the cuts directly into the barrel fuck with the bullet jacket or coating but this also applies to comps. Comps do it at a much lesser rate but it still happens, I believe the ramjet is a port in the barrel so this video still holds true.

is high end special use ammo even worth buying unless you actually meet the real life criteria purpose for it? I often think about shoveling out the $50 for a box of this stuff but then I realize that 1) I don't have any private property to shoot on where i could actually do ballistic tests, 2) i live in the Midwest where there are zero predators, and 3) running a proper reliability test with it requires you to buy at least 100rds of it. Which is serious fucking money for something like Buffalo Bore

I came over here to check the archives about this gun, are you literally me? I have one that was doing the same thing first time out to the range today.
I was also having it lock back with ammo still in the mag, had to pull the slide back to give it the force to pick up the next bullet. I was using 95g CCI and Federal and it was doing it to both brands of ammo so it wasn't either one of them.
It also was denting the brass pretty bad.
Your post is making me think I should have just spent the extra on a Bodyguard 2.0 considering you have the same QC issues.

>BG2
Light primer strikes every mag, sometimes more than one per mag. Jamming on FMJ. Sights are inferior compared to LCP. Mags are significantly harder to load than LCP mags. Sights were WAY left from the factory. It's 100 dollars more expensive than the LCP Max for the base version and 200 for the upgraded one. The one I had was obviously a lemon, but still. I just don't trust it after all that BS.
>LCP
Dead nuts reliable. Doesn't dent the brass when I shoot. I shot 150 rounds, plus the two mags of my carry ammo through it last range session, not a single malfunction of any kind after carrying it for months so it was full of pocket lint and still worked flawlessly. My only issue with it is that it shoots low. The LCP does kick harder than the BG2, but it's not a big enough difference to replace it, at least for me. If they were equally reliable, maybe I would consider replacing the LCP to get the nicer trigger and then replace the sights on the Bodyguard, but it just was not reliable for me with round nose factory FMJ. If it's not reliable with that, it's not reliable with anything.
The biggest reason to get the BG2 over the LCP is the trigger imo. It is, in fact, much better than the LCP trigger, but I am just going to put Talon grips on it and keep the LCP. I'm also going to try the Mcarbo extra power recoil spring and their guide rod to see if that reduces recoil.

So far it's been a great little pocket pistol aside from shooting low. You aren't going to want to shoot hundreds of rounds through it in a single range session, but it's a great, inexpensive little gun that assuming that I can get the POI problem fixed, makes for a near perfect carry gun for 99% of the theoretical situations that I would find myself needing a gun. It absolutely does kick harder and has more flip than the Bodyguard 2. The trigger is the worst part about the LCP Max, but it isn't really worth getting a Bodyguard 2 for just that when there are aftermarket triggers for the LCP Max that greatly improve the feel and it would still come in cheaper than the base Bodyguard 2 after getting the upgraded trigger for the LCP.
