No
Modern guns don't have poor fit and finish compared to old guns. The manufacturing/machining quality of a modern cheap gun often BTFOs an equally cheap gun from anytime in the past. Cheap guns in prior decades would literally just go off when jiggled or dropped because the tolerances were so bad, that's why Saturday night specials were banned. You have to cherrypick specific cases to find good counterexamples to this rule, like certain old S&W revolvers being superior to modern ones, or the machining of old Remington lever actions being better before the company was acquired by Cerberus.
Just as easily as you can argue that guns are a race to the bottom, you can argue that they are a race to the top. Gun owners are probably the most selective, fickle, and risk averse consumer market, and now word about the relative merits and flaws of manufacturers travels faster than it ever has before. If any company found some magic way to make a gun with noticeably better fit and finish for the same price they would just conquer the market overnight but no one can do that except by making their guns in a country with cheap labor.
